That sounds like it could be pretty exciting.
Re:MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display and Touch on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @03:46PM (#50279817)
Why do videos of screens look amazing even when viewed on an inferior monitor? This is not a new observation of mine - even as a child, I'd see fuzzy, snowy commercials for big screen TVs on my 13 inch color TV, and they always looked so much better than the TV I was watching them on.
Re:Today, we hacked what we'd set out to hack: the iPhone on Friday October 23, 2026 @12:47PM (#50211882)
What are these videos actually demonstrating?
Yeah I don't understand this. It prevents me from running multiple simultaneous instances of a game, but I have Steam on a million random PCs and Macs and I've never noticed that I had to link a hardware fingerprint or approve a device or something.
Re:Maybe There Was an Egg Cartel After All on Monday October 19, 2026 @11:48AM (#50153882)
For most of my life eggs were a loss leader and could always be found for under $2 a dozen. Why would they suddenly get the idea to form a cartel? Wasn't it always obvious they should do that? Did they used to be paragons of virtue, then decided to get evil for no reason?

Seems to me there must have been some new incentive structure in place.

Re:Apple HomeView on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @06:34PM (#50079879)
It has the same core hardware and operating system but is configured quite differently. You can’t get the always on, multiuser face recognition behavior out of an iPad even in kiosk mode.
Re:Apple HomeView on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @12:16PM (#50074129)
I don’t want a phone charger stand to be a fixture.
Re:Apple HomeView on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @09:41AM (#50071629)
Because its a fixture.
Re:Apple HomeView on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @09:36AM (#50071538)
This is the return of the 1980s kitchen TV.
Re:Apple HomeView on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @09:35AM (#50071528)
I don't enjoy figuring out how to stand it up, or having the screen constantly lock. And I don't want to buy accessories or mess with settings to fix this.
Re:A Staff Engineer's Guide to Inventing Work on Wednesday September 30, 2026 @11:23AM (#49910187)
The platform is partly a product for the engineers.
Why do you say so?
Re:You Are No Longer Invited to Dinner on Tuesday September 29, 2026 @01:13PM (#49896708)
Yeah, serving a lot of dishes is part of the fun.
Re:You Are No Longer Invited to Dinner on Tuesday September 29, 2026 @12:52PM (#49896360)
My best friends are all annoying in various ways.
Re:Java 27 Released on Tuesday September 15, 2026 @09:28AM (#49712226)
G1 is now the default garbage collector in 27.
This always reads like an admission - “Well of course it’s bad, but how else am I supposed to interview at mass scale?”

Why would you test a large number of candidates in the first place?

I’ve never seen Leetcode test foundational knowledge. There are far better ways to do that than timed puzzles.
What books? That horrible green book?
Expedia was about to Leetcode me but I took another offer before it happened.
Interesting comments here. I've never lived in a time when there weren't news stories about food recalls. I don't think they can be used as data, though. They don't tell me anything about wether the US food supply is worse than it was last year, or 10 years ago, or if its standing in the world is rising or falling.

Are we not interested in science and reason here?

Re:Decompiling a Nintendo 64 Game in 84 Days on Thursday August 27, 2026 @07:31PM (#49472613)
If I hand you a math problem, and you point your camera at it and write down ChatGPT’s answer, you are definitely not doing math.
Re:Tim Curry Has Died on Wednesday August 26, 2026 @12:48PM (#49452164)
In case anyone doesn't understand the reference, lproven is hoping that Donald Trump, current President of the United States, who has a bit part in Home Alone 2, dies next.
I do not get slop vibes from this project at all. Everything looks intentional. There are no bizarre UI elements that were hallucinated into existence. It looks like everything you see was intended to be there.

The website doesn't give the impression of slop either.

This appears to be the "taste" we all have been saying humans are needed for.

I was able to boot the 1.44MB floppy image on my PS/2, but the mouse doesn't work.
Re:Could Four Billion People Die at 3°C? on Tuesday August 18, 2026 @03:28PM (#49351309)
It's cold, but not that cold.
Re:How I developed an Am29000 C compiler and web browser on Monday August 17, 2026 @03:01PM (#49335972)
DJGPP was a revelation. Suddenly I had real build tools, for free, and I was linking to Glide libraries and thinking I was going to be the next John Carmack.
We never attempted to solve the issue of distorted price signals that occur when customers aren't the ones paying for something. We're still charging $600 for a bag of saline.
Another way of looking at is that some people are concerned about what happens to limited "free" healthcare resources when you simultaneously oppose any controls on immigration.
Democracy is the biggest obstacle to universal healthcare in the US.

A lot of people do not want it, and you've thus far failed to make them want it.

Re:Mushroom behind 'tiny people' hallucinations identified on Thursday August 13, 2026 @10:26AM (#49286477)
What if we all take the mushrooms and sit in the same room and write down what we see and compare notes?

What if we all see the exact same thing
