You can use Stylus (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/styl-us/) to add custom CSS to websites.
Real example of why this is a bad idea: www.cs.usfca.edu is not cs.usfca.edu. The latter doesn't even have a DNS entry set up..

A screenshot of the browser will not show the www, making it more difficult to find the website.

Re:It’s Time to Get Back to RSS on Sunday May 17, 2020 @01:15PM (#23213416)
Customizable HN feeds (inofficial): https://edavis.github.io/hnrss/

It's really easy to get posts on the frontpage only if they have more than x points:

https://hnrss.org/frontpage?points=x

Or contain certain keywords:

https://hnrss.org/newest?q=git+OR+linux

Try setting media.peerconnection.enabled to true in about:config.
Re:How to make Linux run fast again on Intel CPUs on Sunday October 13, 2019 @05:30AM (#21239430)
Some mitigations also apply to AMD CPUs.
Smarter bad actors could still do it without being detected. Hiding an encrypted message in unsuspicious messages isn't that difficult. I really don't see the point of having such a law.

Do modern browsers still use 32 bit timestamps internally?

Regardless, it's probably not a good idea to rely on the browser saving cookies forever.

The difference is a matter of getting used to it.

Maybe by detecting the notification vibration?
I'm not his employer (luckily).
Isn't it all about 'engagement' (at least for companies)?

Facebook -> make the user see more ads

Amazon -> make the user buy more things

How old is your PC? Mine is ~5 years old and Chromium has worse performance for me.

The total amount of loaded pages in Private Browsing doesn't really have to be private?

No, that's not how entropy works. Random characters still score better.

Re:Google to push new ads on its apps on Wednesday May 15, 2019 @07:11AM (#19918240)
It's open source and I haven't heard anything negative about it. Only downside is that using a VPN at the same time is probably (?) impossible.

Try Blokada (https://blokada.org/), it blocks ads system-wide.

Just look at Minecraft for that (it's written in Java). A recent version created up to 200 MB of garbage per second!

Off-topic, but I really like that the website offers a text-only version without tracking.
> -full desktop support for video and voice calls

Any desktop support would be nice. WhatsApp web is not a real solution.

That's because it was basically copied from /r/NSFW411's wiki.

So every used car has the same price?

They are in monospace?

What do you mean? Isn't he just reading them?

Let's call it the MacBook Pro Pro

Openstreetmap can be very good when used with the right app. On Android I like OsmAnd, it has the best available UI imo.
Why not 2 H20 -> 2 H2 + O2?
I really dont understand why I should open a new browser instance (Electron) to view one pdf when I could just open it in my browser..

Updates should be handled by the OS anyway IMO

Re:Show HN: Tube – Minimalist YouTube on Saturday April 14, 2018 @11:51AM (#16837824)
After it has finished processing, youtube-dl will (by default) download the best format anyway.
