Re:Heartbleed Alexa top 10000 on Tuesday April 08, 2014 @08:23PM (#7556931)
my ASUS router uses the 1.0.0 branch so it shouldn't be vulnerable to this bug
Re:Lithium Battery Pack Design for Boosted's Electric Skateboard on Wednesday October 09, 2013 @08:35PM (#6524924)
If RC Monster trucks can have replaceable battery packs, I imagine board vibration more than moisture has to be pretty severe to warrant permanent connections.
Re:On Hyperloop on Monday August 19, 2013 @01:46PM (#6238520)
If I recall correctly, Tesla had difficulty designing a transmission at first go and they are in the car business.

So I guess the point is, apparently persistence counts for something.

Re:Running Lua in a browser via Emscripten on Thursday May 30, 2013 @08:55PM (#5796222)
If this is the real deal, then why not ship common language VMs (in asm.js) with the browser? Then you don't need to worry about 200k at all and all code can run in the browser? I mean, if google is shipping NaCL and Dart VMs, why not? Updates could ship with browser updates, or you can still load your own rolled version if you like.
Re:Driving students into science is a fool's errand on Wednesday May 15, 2013 @08:16PM (#5716003)
How about going into STEM to understand how the world works a little better?

Would you rather have a society full of too many engineers or that of too many lawyers?

Re:Tesla Handles Better than a Corvette Z06 on Thursday April 11, 2013 @06:04AM (#5530946)
Isn't it the torque curve that's smooth for electric motors and not power?
Re:The Meme Hustler - Tim O’Reilly’s crazy talk on Monday April 01, 2013 @11:04PM (#5477447)
That's funny, I said the exact opposite to my friends comparing this piece to Gladwell.
Re:New $250 Chromebook on Thursday October 18, 2012 @07:52PM (#4671646)
agreed. Totally misleading
does 20 ms latency cut it?
Re:Textmate2 Goes Open Source on Thursday August 09, 2012 @02:46PM (#4362558)
Maybe now I can add my own "replace" button in the Find Dialog of TextMate 2. The only button there for me is "replace all"

Does anyone else have that issue?

Re:Nokia sells Qt to Digia on Thursday August 09, 2012 @07:00AM (#4360469)
Don't the the four voting members of the foundation have to vote to BSD license Qt? Its not auto kick-in right?

I think there are a ton of partiess that would be interested in developing a BSD modern GUI framework like Qt 5.

Re:Show HN: Brandseen - A logo coloring game built in 24h on Tuesday July 24, 2012 @08:19PM (#4288780)
I thought the coca cola logo was white lettering on a red field. Batman logo coloring is dubious at best
Re:Zero-day Exploit Price List on Saturday June 16, 2012 @02:13PM (#4121211)
Perhaps the worst thing about this is that engineers at the browser makers are now incentivized to create Zero-days. $250k and rising for knowingly creating a backdoor? There's now a market for software engineer corruption. Maybe add in some middlemen...
Re:The New MacBook Pro: Unfixable, Unhackable, Untenable on Friday June 15, 2012 @06:29PM (#4119050)
I dislike propriety SDD connectors mainly. Full disk encryption and backup are even more musts.

I enjoyed migrating foolishly unbacked up data from a laptop with a dead [Insert failed component that's not the drive] by popping the 2.5" drive into an external enclosure. Now I have to give my drive to somebody else? Or use iCloud.

Tough sell to me

Re:HP designjet 3D printer (German site) check the video on Sunday April 29, 2012 @10:58AM (#3906114)
This is a rebranded Dimension/Stratasys product. The crescent wrench is the standard built-in test part for the Dimension line.

Also, who did the marketing video for this? Need to add them to my rolodex

Re:The Dawn of Haiku OS on Sunday April 29, 2012 @10:50AM (#3906086)
I was an occasional user of BeOS 4 and 5. Got the free upgrade to 5 in the mail.

It's anachronistic I know, but I think the biggest issue with the OS was timing. If the FOSS movement had as much commercial maturity as today, I think the story of BeOS would be way different. It was pretty well placed at the time in terms of offering a solid media experience coupled with a POSIX compliant environment. I'm pretty sure it would be used like OS X is today by many devs, but without the hardware lock-in.

It was super fun to use BeOS, I just didn't have a workflow that matched it at the time.

Re:Github is making me feel stupid(er) on Sunday April 08, 2012 @03:36PM (#3814673)
I spent a half an hour trying to figure out how to switch my dashboard to my organization and find the button to create a new repository for the organization. Who knew it was in the News Feed Tab. That needs to change. Clear links for organization management gotta be there.
Re:Poll: What's Your Favorite Programming Language? on Saturday March 24, 2012 @07:59AM (#3749150)
You also can develop just in QML, which is really nice.
Re:Go is amazing, period. on Monday March 19, 2012 @10:13PM (#3727450)
Go needs Allman style. It's unnatural to me otherwise
Re:A Patent Lie: How Yahoo Weaponized My Work on Tuesday March 13, 2012 @08:46PM (#3701170)
What makes software patents so special? Whether an idea is novel seems relative to who you are talking to in my experience.
Re:Advanced Data Structures MIT on Wednesday February 08, 2012 @09:26PM (#3569520)
Must be typeset in LaTeX? That seems ridiculous.
