Very cool.
Re:What you'd build if you had 100 millions? on Thursday November 19, 2009 @09:24AM (#950258)
I would invest it in startups. Which is the best way to foster innovation and job growth.
Re:What’s in a name – Tips for naming your startup on Thursday October 29, 2009 @09:20PM (#911318)
That is an excellent point!
Re:What’s in a name – Tips for naming your startup on Thursday October 29, 2009 @09:19PM (#911316)
Great post. I would also say: 1) don't get caught up in any one name 2) having too descriptive of a name can be disastrous as you won't have as much flexibility 3) have fun with it!
Re:Speaker's Tip: Don't tell the audience you aren't prepared on Thursday October 29, 2009 @09:17PM (#911311)
Some speakers can get away with it, whether as a form of humor or setting completely unreal expectations (ie. I am not prepared, but then blows the audience away with their knowledge).

Normal people can't do it (which most certainly includes myself!)

Re:Entrepreneur ADD on Wednesday October 28, 2009 @11:23AM (#907951)
A great way to find which one to focus on is: 1) Ask yourself which would be more fun for you to do? 2) Chat with the people that could use whatever you are building to get their thoughts (but be sure to talk to people who you don't know, as "only positive feedback" will give you the wrong conclusion. 3) Rate each project on an easy to hard scale and then weight them against 1 & 2 above.
Re:Co-founder or employee? on Monday October 12, 2009 @06:00PM (#877760)
If you do decide to work together, be sure to have a strong legal agreement between you two. Especially, if you bring them on as a co-founder.

Key points: - Stock vesting - Dispute resolution - Out clause - the usual boiler plate

Otherwise, if things don't work out (and if they are a friend, it can get nasty) you want to have a clear plan that everyone has agreed to.

Re:Giving away my startup idea....... on Monday October 12, 2009 @04:08PM (#877524)
What is the business model behind this? This sounds like a nifty little feature, but not a business.
Re:Poll: Horizontal or Vertical Market for your Startup on Wednesday September 02, 2009 @10:27AM (#800228)
Horizontal. Though, vertical tends to have better short term results.
Re:Best Young Entrepreneurs 2009 on Friday April 24, 2009 @02:41AM (#577095)
Way to go Kabir Shahani of Appature Inc. Founded w/ $4,000 in cash. Amazing what can be done with little to no cash!
Re:GMail is up for almost everyone. Don't believe the hype. on Tuesday March 10, 2009 @11:56PM (#511252)
No problem on my end! Thankfully.
Re:Ask YC/HN: How do you help your job-hunting friends out? on Monday January 05, 2009 @07:05PM (#421358)
I think the best thing to do is to introduce them to as many people as possible so that they can meet face-to-face. Obviously, it has to be a match for skill set, personality type, role, etc.

People simply relate better to direct meetings. They can put a face to a name and have a much better understanding of the person who is looking for a job.

Also, it is simply a lot harder to tell someone no to their face :-)

Re:Ask YC: What is the Best Website to find StartUp jobs? on Wednesday September 03, 2008 @12:56PM (#293979)
Thanks noodle! I run nPost (http://www.npost.com) and definitely appreciate the good feedback.

There are lots of job boards out there, but only a few that are solely focused on the tech startup community, such as nPost and Startuply. Both only make the community stronger.

Startuply has a great site and we wish them the best.

Re:Is there a site that lists startups that are hiring? on Monday May 19, 2008 @01:50AM (#193877)
I run nPost and would welcome feedback on the site. We try and focus solely on tech startup jobs. We also featured over 200 interviews that we have done with startups including Disqus, and others.

If you would like to contact me you can do so at nathan (at) npost (dot) com.

Re:Seattle Startup School May 31st Sixhourstartup.com on Tuesday May 06, 2008 @06:11PM (#182907)
I will be there! Will be great for local startups to get some great information on how to form a company, building it up, etc.
Re:Are you on twitter? on Wednesday March 12, 2008 @12:51AM (#134913)
It gets interesting when they start offering commercial services around it. What a great platform for project teams, or even disaster notifications (civil services), etc. It would be great for emergency services to coordinate their activities. However, that is assuming that it can handle the volume without going down!

Re:Ask YC: So, why are you doing a startup? on Friday January 25, 2008 @12:16PM (#104209)
1. Ego 2. I relish the idea of creating something new 3. I love the idea of serving a unique niche and helping promote startups and entrepreneurs 4. Ego 5. Working out of coffee shops, drinking decaf mochas all day long is my idea of LIVING it up 6. Because I never want to have to say "I wish I had!"
