> They are. That's the problem. The obligations that these companies are, on paper, supposed to meet require these valuations.

How does that make sense lol

"it owes a bunch of people money, so it should be worth more"

i don't...

You are misunderstanding a number of things aggressively.

For one thing, one needn't run a model locally, that's a separate--but also very damning--issue.

For another, that's fine if Anthropic and OpenAI can do that, but they will have sunk a bunch of cost into their own training already and people wouldn't pay them what they need when there is always a vastly cheaper substitute that gets the job done.

Re:Patrick Stewart taught us what good men do with power on Sunday November 01, 2026 @09:27PM (#50332400)
There is no reasoning with someone who looks at Trump's America and thinks it's fine except "the Marxists"
Re:Patrick Stewart taught us what good men do with power on Sunday November 01, 2026 @07:21PM (#50331437)
The only places worth living in the US are the coastal liberal cities with those of us voting for the "marxists". If you live in one, please leave. We don't like your kind.

if true, seems like a kiss-ass who can't be trusted
Guess I will be finding a new email provider...

Can anyone recommend good alternatives?

Re:Amazon Is Gutting Its AI Division After Sustained Failure on Thursday October 29, 2026 @10:28AM (#50289681)
?? Do you think the rest of us are retarded? Jeff Bezos and Elon and Zuckerberg et al. love him, donated to him, etc. He gives tax cuts to the rich. The Republicans have, for as long as any of us have been alive, been more explicitly the party of the rich than the Democrats.

The fact they are consistently able to get a bunch of dumbass poor rural rubes to vote for them out of various forms of ignorance and bigotry doesn't change that.

I want to call your post "low-effort propaganda", but it falls short even of that. Like you're running around trying to tell people that clouds are made of marshmallows or something.

Capitalism gonna capitalism. Why would an "industry" act in the way this writer views as normatively good?

I am surprised there aren't better worker protections in the UK to prevent getting laid off so quickly.

I don't disagree that it's probably a violation of GitHub TOS, but I don't think it's like substantively negative behavior, if that makes sense.

Like if he was spamming other peoples repos programmatically, then, yes, I would agree he should not expect sympathy from the rest of us.

Not gonna die on this hill though; seemed like a pointless and somewhat odd thing for OP to do lol

Why? It was his own repo.
Re:AI promised less work. I've never worked more on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @09:31AM (#50259011)
They are probably adding up Anthropic + a number of other companies
Re:Anthropic S-1 on Monday October 26, 2026 @01:32PM (#50247632)
I think you either grossly misread my comment or are responding to someone else, because my position seems to be pretty much the same as yours
Re:Anthropic S-1 on Monday October 26, 2026 @12:24PM (#50246472)
How is it not clear that LLMs are being increasingly commoditized and that the foundation model producers are in a bad race to the bottom with each other AND cheap open-weight competition?

Not even just from Chinese models, but from companies/labs like Mercury

Re:Vegemite is not a human right on Monday October 26, 2026 @10:26AM (#50244301)
When I first heard about the case, I assumed prisoner was suing because he was being forced to accept toast with vegemite already on it or something, but turns out it was the opposite lol
Re:Challenge Is Gone on Sunday October 25, 2026 @04:06PM (#50235544)
yeah, fresh air, appreciating parenting, how awful and dystopian

much worse than having one's identity entirely subsumed by typing code and reading software documentation

Re:Challenge Is Gone on Sunday October 25, 2026 @10:47AM (#50232117)
> it also will solve everything that makes life worthwhile.

It's going to solve your kids? Or eating food? Or enjoying fresh air?

Re:Bringing uv and ty together on Sunday October 25, 2026 @09:31AM (#50231389)
what is a "project manager" in this context?

I think it's safe to say most of us who use `uv` use it as a package manager.

Re:Bringing uv and ty together on Sunday October 25, 2026 @09:22AM (#50231290)
I think part of ty's pitch is also that it's very simple to set up. I think only Pyright compares in this regard. I tried Pyrefly once and recall it being a bit more involved to start using.
Good. DA should focus on a rational plan to tackle high-impact crimes, not drug offenses.
Re:Ask HN: Are we giving away our civilization? on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @07:13PM (#50188950)
You think something triaging your emails and completing paperwork for you is "giving away...civilization"?

Nice.

AI-generated PR desc is less nice though :e
