Re:Mac at Any Scale on Tuesday November 03, 2026 @11:38AM (#50354225)
You can build iOS apps on Omarchy now
Multiple teams and efforts are now making Qwen 3.8 27b work much faster on Mac and CUDA and the inference speed is doubling almost every week. There's now ongoing competition about who will make it work faster with exactly the same byte output at https://mlx.fast . TensorFold is the project to follow.
Re:Linode Security Incident on Saturday October 31, 2026 @02:24AM (#50313709)
I specifically meant red teaming with AI across your infrastructure to find vulnerabilities before these are exploited. This is what I have been actively doing and it works.
Re:Linode Security Incident on Friday October 30, 2026 @07:02PM (#50311246)
All companies should at this point invest a lot of money into defensive AI. In ~July the AI hit crypto and bitcoin, where it's the easiest to extract the most money. Now the AI powered attacks are hitting infra and SaaS. Next (~December), it will hit classic infrastructure, banks, small businesses, etc. By mid next year, we will be over this hump with defensive AI being required part of everything.
Re:SimCity, but with Permits on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @09:17PM (#50174895)
I guess it depends where that is. Are you specifically in an community of expats? Guanacaste? I had notably better experience in Uvita/Manuel Antonio.
Re:Linux 7.3 Released on Monday October 19, 2026 @02:14PM (#50155853)
People may have specific hardware issue that's blocking them and a new kernel release fixes the issue. In that situation they see this announcement and they may be technically brave enough to want to install and check it. Currently they have to find and go to something like https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ , find the right versions, download multiple files and then `sudo dpkg -i linux-*.deb` and then confirm if their issue is fixed.

I'm not saying it's a great idea, but I'm explaining why people may expect to have a smoother path here.

This seems somewhat outdated approach.

Agreed that centralizing identity is critical (which implies strong reconciliation systems, that can both do well on merges/splits/identity-shifts, but also need to enable backtracing to sources for each triple), but then I don't think it makes sense anymore to force ontology across all systems in the pipeline. As long as you give AI ability to do toolcalls/skills for each individual system and let it build up memory, then AI does much better job piecing together the actual practical ontology. You can give the observability AI to ask each system about it's state for the given piece of information and the AI should be free to make any toolcalls (e.g. call the specific system appropriately via CLI) it needs to gather the precise state.

I think human establishing the ontology gets in a way here, just let the AI poke the systems on its own via clean small interfaces.

Re:Qwen3.8-Flash-Next Is on TensorFold with Speed Boosts on Thursday October 01, 2026 @03:39PM (#49926143)
What context did you get those numbers on? I'm always surprised that in these reports people have like 8k context. How can you survive with 8k context, doing what?
Re:Gemini 4 Argon on Thursday October 01, 2026 @02:55PM (#49925637)
And that's why it's very powerful to be able to run AI locally, even if less smart.
Re:F-Droid 2.0: A New Chapter for Android Freedom on Thursday September 24, 2026 @07:36PM (#49838245)
Just highlighting that Zapstore is also a nice alternative here with better ux and social web of trust app validation.
Re:Omacom Foundation Launches with $8M on Friday August 21, 2026 @02:11PM (#49391872)
The high end one that's recommended is the New Dell XPS 14 that essentially looks like Macbook Pro. Also Michael Dell is a notable supporter of Omarchy, so hopefully that means some good support and stability.
Re:Omacom Foundation Launches with $8M on Friday August 21, 2026 @02:08PM (#49391839)
I have seen Omarchy to rapidly accept PRs that make it available and fully functional on older hardware. I think this is a very exciting progress even when I'm not into tiling DEs.
If the watch gets any popular, it will take at most weeks for someone to vibecode open source app for this.
In Kherson the fiber controlled drones that drop explosives on civilians are terrorizing the cities, but that's nothing in comparison to illegal handbags!
Re:Our position on open-weights models on Monday July 27, 2026 @07:57PM (#49077346)
It's the same as how by "we will prevent teenagers from using social networks" they mean "we really want to connect everyones ID with their social account identity".
Re:Our position on open-weights models on Monday July 27, 2026 @07:54PM (#49077315)
Oh wow, that's a pretty strong request to ban open-weight models by choking them with review processes where who-knows-who defines what is ok in a model and what is not. After open weight model is released, it will take how long to review it? And why does that align exactly with the timeline of the next Anthropic model release?
Re:The 'Father of the Internet' is finally retiring on Sunday July 12, 2026 @05:34PM (#48885050)
Work induced brain damage... ;)
With this level of spying it becomes important to learn to use technologies that are outside of this system that people on HN usually laugh at. Tor, VPNs, Bitcoin, Bitchat, Nostr based socials, Signal and get some extra clean hardware (phone, laptop...) to work with when you need to...
One option is to use Obscura, so then you at least spread the trust to two parties (one of which is Mullvad). Not great, but better.
It's stupid when one of the CEOs of a private VPN company decides to fund political actors. That's just PR issue bound to happen. Funding bad actors bites you every single time - so maybe have a chat about if you have seen this coming - and if not why were you blind to this?

On top of this don't change your service based on this outrage. If you change it, then you will prove that Mullvad is malleable by political pressure. You can guess what happens next...

I just asked gemini the question with sim number and it gives me full step by step guide.
Re:Squillions – two books about money-laundering on Tuesday June 02, 2026 @02:02PM (#48373828)
That's not true. Most money laundering is in USD and then stablecoins (USDT, etc). NFTs are a thing of the past and the big majority was not on bitcoin anyway. So no, bitcoin is not a major player. If you would completely eradicate bitcoin (which is not possible), you would solve (I'm guesstimating) 0.3% of money laundering.
Re:Windows GOG DOS Games on M-Series Macs on Monday June 01, 2026 @12:30PM (#48359091)
I like DOSBox pure, because that allows you to put the full games into a single zip file and so you then essentially have the equivalent of per-game file on consoles.
Re:Google I/O on Tuesday May 19, 2026 @06:26PM (#48200524)
I want to do that. Last week there was an article from a person that vibed their whole system in assembly and it was super fast and it did exactly what the person wanted and nothing else. That was eye opening.
Re:The Quiet Renovation at Bitwarden on Monday May 18, 2026 @07:25PM (#48187270)
This will probably finally push me to migrate away from Bitwarden. Somehow over the years the UI was getting worse and worse too. It's more steps to add custom hidden fields than it used to, etc.

I ... now want to read this book.
Re:Hardware Attestation as Monopoly Enabler on Monday May 11, 2026 @12:34AM (#48091086)
Some retrogaming devices have multi-boot options where you can pick between android and linux (e.g. Anbernic RG353V).
In case of error you talk to the seller, if they are reasonable and care about their reputation, they pay you back (e.g. the Square seller devices have options for this). If they don't, you can try suing them. There's a wide group of people that are stealing from sellers (especially on Amazon and similar) by using the product and then returning it with made up issues. Bitcoin would help these businesses, since the settlement is final.
