News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

Step 0: determine whether or not rebuilding trust is even worth the time and effort. When trust is lost, you’re not starting over—-you’re starting with a deficit.
Who would have thought that people who solicit, accept, and deliver on bribes might engage in corrupt practices?
Alphabet has a larger legal budget, which makes them unattractive targets for baseless lawsuits.

I don’t find the oligarchy to be a reputable source of information about the oligarchy.
What fact was that?
Most people don’t. They just go on with their lives until they hit their breaking point or die. Occasionally they lash out at people with actual power, but they usually just kill children and people buying lettuce.
They would make more progress if we only gave them the money they can account for.
I wouldn’t mind the wealth transfer if the client jurisdictions’ representatives didn’t meddle in their patron jurisdictions’ local politics. But I suppose it leaves them more to expropriate.
They’re still openly soliciting and accepting bribes. This isn’t going to do anything to reduce public enthusiasm for the guillotine.
I’ll add a fourth: these services will inevitably be hacked, their data added to multiple darkweb data dumps, and circulated among nation states, hackers, and advertisers for the rest of time.
The sites listed all pay US politicians, judges, and regulators for political favors and leniency, Canna does not.
Boeing has offices in nearly every congressional district, and has been openly bribing congress for decades. They will never fail, experience hardship, or suffer consequences for anything so long as the current republic stands.
I don’t think IBM could have come up with a better marketing plan for Enterprise Open Source. Unless this is exactly that.

I’m not sure what you mean by “mainstream media.” If you find their credibility lacking, could you provide some more credible suggestions?
Can you share a link to that strategy memo?
The neat thing about US politics is that if you pay off the right people, results don’t matter.
If it allows outrage pornographers to accrue wealth or notoriety, then it’ll be used news and politics.
It’s Twitter. A nine is more than enough for their most critical workloads.

What’s the case fatality rate for vaccinated vs. unvaccinated people?
This is a bait and switch. If you’re comfortable with your employer using dark patterns against you, go for it. If not, maybe consider another employer.
Contacting Microsoft is always a mistake. They don’t want to hear from anyone and their process reflects this.

He may not be a Luddite, but he is a sitting congressman, so some level of corruption/bad faith should be assumed.
Re:Ask HN: How do I find a mentor outside my company? on Friday October 29, 2021 @09:47AM (#29038327)
I clicked expecting more context and found a great mentorship opportunity: please provide more context when you’re asking for advice.

So much of the “never buy a rental” stigma is ICE-specific. EVs don’t rely on hundreds of hard-to-reach soft parts that can disable the vehicle if you drive them too hard.

But I’ll definitely be checking the battery and motors before buying a used EV.

I hope this is a signal that Brooks has turned to activism and is working to spread the message of love within his party. I eagerly await examples of his success and wish him all the best.
Re:Apple’s new M1 Pro and M1 Max processors on Monday October 18, 2021 @02:28PM (#28909335)
I’m waiting on Apple’s final decision on the CSAM scanner before I buy any more hardware from them. These processors look cool, but I don’t think they’re worth the Apple premium if they’re also spying for law enforcement.
Did that happen in the US in 2020? I thought the overwhelming majority of those claims were dismissed.

The real crime is calling bribes “campaign contributions” and pretending that our politicians (of all parties) aren’t selling their votes to the highest bidder.

We don’t live in a civilized country. Civilized countries don’t have violent elections.
You may not like their interpretation of scripture, but they’re just as Christian as any other Christian organization.
