"To find early versions of Arial, the Dinamo team had to work with computer technology archivists to get access to some of the first personal computers and operating systems. In the end they found a tool that allowed them to boot up Windows 2000 on their own laptops"

I hope this "technology archivist" charged them appropriately for this monumental task. /s

The idea is that you download the source, review, and then build it yourself.
Re:LL3M: Large Language 3D Modelers on Sunday August 17, 2025 @11:08AM (#44932153)
If you're interested in that, check out the guys over at pixellab.ai

They have an Aesprite plugin that generates pretty nice looking sprites from your prompts.

Re:Why C#? on Thursday April 24, 2025 @12:42PM (#43784757)
Agreed. This is the first resource that I've come across that so succinctly encompasses the language. Well worth the read to any dev looking to evaluate the language.

Of course the (good) problem with C# is that it's moving so fast, articles like these can quickly become out of date.

Re:Ars Technica guide to mechanical keyboards on Monday December 30, 2024 @11:10AM (#42550570)
I recently picked up the G915 and share the same frustrations. And it's too bad too because the keyboard itself is the best-feeling, lowest wrong-key-pressed keyboard I've ever used.

I'm desperately looking for the same keyboard without the G keys.

Re:How we engineer feedback at Figma with eng crits on Monday March 11, 2024 @01:30PM (#39671027)
Every tool that I use that doesn't have AI embedded just feels clunky. Any repetitive or predictive task that I have to do should have the option of being automated.
Re:Sora: Creating video from text on Thursday February 15, 2024 @03:45PM (#39388531)
But doesn't this technology give you the same edge?

You can deliver more content, faster, cheaper.

Re:Ventoy on Monday December 18, 2023 @03:31PM (#38687766)
I've used similar tools like imageUSB and Rufus in the past. But it looks like Ventoy is better in every aspect. Excellent!
Re:Show HN: My Failure Resume on Thursday March 16, 2023 @12:15PM (#35183995)
I don't understand this - have you been (unsuccessfully) looking for a job since 2013?

If you've had jobs in between these applications, why are you applying for so many new jobs every year?

I discovered this just the other day and could not believe it had been there all along!
Re:Tinder users are using ChatGPT to message matches on Monday December 26, 2022 @04:43PM (#34142223)
And what does one do when you meet in person and no longer have the witty AI to carry your conversation?
Re:Perfluorocubane is (as you would expect) weird on Tuesday August 23, 2022 @12:45PM (#32567576)
I love how excited the author is about this post. It sounds like some promising discoveries are in the works.

Of course I have no idea what any of this means. Maybe somebody could share a layman's explanation? What would be the benefit of "hold a free electron in the middle of that cube"?

Agree 100%. I actually tried to go without a numpad on a new keyboard. Couldn't make it a week before I returned it. Up to that point I didn't realize how much I used it on a daily basis.

I can't help but think how inefficient a programmer would be using the standard number keys. Reminds me of my dad hunting and pecking with his index finger.

Re:DALL-E 2 has a secret language on Tuesday May 31, 2022 @04:06PM (#31574279)
My first thought upon reading this: what if DALL-E (or a similar AI) uncovers some kind of hidden universal language that is somehow more "optimal" than any existing language?

i.e. anything can be completely described in a more succinct manner than any current spoken language.

Or maybe some kind of universal language that naturally occurs and any semi-intelligence life can understand it.

Fun stuff!

Re:The CRPG Book Project: Three Years Later on Tuesday September 14, 2021 @09:00AM (#28524067)
If this interests you, you'll love the CRPG Addict [0]. The guy is well on his way through his mission to play, and document, every CRPG ever made. Always a fun read.

Agreed. I find the various subreddits related to things I'm interested in to be a great resource and occasionally, great entertainment.
Sorry for my ignorance, but if photons do not have mass, how do them impacting the solar panel have any effect on the ship's velocity?
Re:Things I learned while developing a billing system on Monday April 05, 2021 @05:31PM (#26704966)
First time learning that weekend days vary by country. I looked up [1] some of the more curious ones.

Brunei weekends are Friday and Sunday. Those poor folks work Mon-Thurs, and then go back to work Saturday!

Re:98.css on Thursday April 01, 2021 @03:41PM (#26665113)
Well that would explain it.
Re:98.css on Thursday April 01, 2021 @01:16PM (#26663394)
The combobox drop down menu feels wrong. The non-expanded control is true to the style, but the dropdown itself looks like it doesn't implement the Win98/Winforms style. Maybe it's the border?
Re:Numi – Calculator app for Mac on Monday March 29, 2021 @04:42PM (#26627892)
This also works in Win10: Windows Key + S, type your query, immediate results in the start menu window.

Support fuzzy terms as well. ex. 100ml in cups

Re:Webmention.io on Tuesday March 09, 2021 @03:44PM (#26403942)
Not exactly the same, but I've been using https://f5bot.com/ for a while now. Sends me a notification any time specified keywords are found on Reddit, HN, etc. Great service with no fees.
Re:Ask HN: What is your passive income 2020? on Thursday October 22, 2020 @01:04PM (#24860303)
My Android app, Gamers Database, entered its 3rd year of operation in 2020. It's in maintenance mode, but thanks to automated hourly updates and crowd-sourced data, it stays relevant.

~$120 / month in passive income between adverts and the $3 option to buy the ad-free version.

The only real effort is keeping up with Google's constant deprecation of their libraries.

Re:Noisli – Improve focus and boost your productivity on Monday February 09, 2015 @03:07PM (#9023334)
FYI I get a blank white page with Chrome. Version 40.0.2214.111 m (64-bit). Checking source, it's all loaded. Just nothing showing.

Works fine in IE 11.0.15

Re:Find your color scheme on Friday March 07, 2014 @10:49AM (#7360860)
I like the much simplified interface on this.
Re:A circuit and PCB editor in the browser on Thursday October 11, 2012 @10:12AM (#4640820)
I gotcha. It's a good start then. I'll definitely keep an eye on it. A couple suggestions: have an option to turn on a grid in the background. Also would be nice to be able to rotate components.

Kind of simplistic. I much prefer http://www.dz863.com/index.php
