It’s heavily RL’d and it’s gotten worse because they’re using LLM judges, that’s why it’s gotten worse. The last good writing model was GPT 4.5.

I suspect they’re leaning heavily on some kind of auto verifier, and that’s why the writing sucks, because good writing is so subjective.

And they’re probably nerfing what it can get from training as they’ve lost lawsuits for scraping copyrighted work, so they’ll purposefully avoid anything that references a specific writers style, etc.

If a party expressed anti-democratic goals, protecting them by the social compact of democracy is stupid.

Look how well that idea worked out in Turkey. Authoritarian movements use democracy like a train and get off when they get power

I think if you buy into the idea of cancel culture is a real thing, you’ve already lost the plot.

quite humiliating to change vocabulary just because an old man said so

I believe they’ve pushed back the ipo. I always figured that frontier labs were going to be very vulnerable against tech giants that had actual profitable businesses to fund their AI work.

The amount of total funding Anthropic or OpenAI has raised individually is like a year of ebitda for Google, meta, or Microsoft. And it doesn’t look like there’s a real moat outside of money

Re:Typesafe AI raises $870M at $7.5B on Friday October 09, 2026 @07:30PM (#50027871)
An Enterprise client at that size can just be someone at an f500 put a credit card in
Nobody is quiet about doing well. And the frenetic release schedule of kinda half baked products tells a story (not a good one)

Why build cars when you can just change the seat covers
Re:Mistral Large 4 on Tuesday October 06, 2026 @10:04AM (#49978691)
I don’t know if convenient is a moat when it makes switching very easy
Re:Mistral Large 4 on Tuesday October 06, 2026 @10:03AM (#49978681)
They are very unprofitable…? I don’t think that’s really in dispute. We haven’t yet seen a profitable frontier lab and model pricing remains fairly subsidized
This really just exists so cognition can stop spending API tokens with Anthropic or OpenAI.

Basically any successful AI based service will do this because at scale the frontier models are expensive and you’ll have enough data to fine tune your own.

Same reason Harvey is doing models now and basically every other provider

Well the models did get better but yeah their early product was godawful
Re:Google WeatherNext 3 on Monday September 07, 2026 @08:44PM (#49604435)
its nowhere near as good as it was in Dark Sky. the apple weather app is pretty bad where I'm at.
Aren't they used doing this so they can generate training data for using Macs via the UI with computer use?
Re:Understanding ChatGPT Work on Sunday August 30, 2026 @11:33PM (#49505287)
Sol Light on computer use is fantastic. I use it whenever I need to dive deep into whatever shitty web saas app menu if the API is unavailable

If your standard for free speech is “my side gets to question propaganda, but the other side’s worst posts prove the platform is biased,” that’s not a free speech principle.
LLMs seem to be trained to work very well against a goal, especially one it can verify against. I guess because it can easily know if it passed or failed, va other tasks where good/bad output is subjective

It’s hard to manage because it’s not intelligent in a predictable way. More like a genius toddler
Re:DeepSeek peak/off-peak pricing update on Friday August 14, 2026 @10:30AM (#49299211)
I have seen a lot of companies start with this, then when they hit 150 users on their team plan and start having to pay API rates they immediately start introducing other models.
Re:DeepSeek peak/off-peak pricing update on Friday August 14, 2026 @10:28AM (#49299194)
You should be running your agent in a box so that’s not really a risk
Re:Accelerating GPT-5.6 Sol Ultrafast on Thursday August 13, 2026 @04:52PM (#49291706)
Anything will be fast if you etch it straight to silicon
Nothing they said was incorrect.
Might be his commitment to fascism across the western world
That example is a good reason nominal GDP has limits on what it can measure, as a drive thru Mississippi would show a poor state with small pockets of wealth
Gee maybe building a business on top of mass ip theft might have consequences
planes fly above the weather, so kinda irrelevant. you can cross the atlantic fast with something like the Concorde
yeah but the size of the us healthcare sector (like 18%) is a policy choice, other developed countries have theirs at 10-12%.

U.S. healthcare is a giant predatory clusterfuck and seems impossible to meaningfully reform.

I think it’s just where they focused RLHF resources. The models have generally only gotten worse at writing.

And writing doesn’t have validators like code so you can’t really scale it in the same way

A lot of these markets aren't really functioning when there are many middlemen that have an 2-4 company oligopoly that choke out any actual competition.

Many markets don't really have 'competition'

Its meat processors having a monopoly.
