my experience on apple devices in alberta hasn't been any better, microsoft is just the bigger target for articles like this because more people use it for scheduling meetings.
it took around 40hrs for my apple watch and my iPhone to start agreeing on what time it was.
apparently angry birds is a book? and it's more popular than the new testament in the "other" category.
what about teachers' mental health?
search numbers are down as a percentage of total revenue, because cloud is up. search numbers are not actually down
am i remembering correctly that "google cloud" in the earnings isn't just developer's google cloud bills (that's google cloud platform), it's also basically any product where a consumer or enterprise pays money to google for anything other than advertising - google drive storage, gemini pro, enterprise google workspace plans...
argon was announced to coincide with performance review deadline. carbon was announced to coincide with quarterly earnings release.
they don't really care how end-users will receive these models, they're just announcing for internal targets.
i think the point is that you're not sending these docs over email, and they never actually trigger the filter they might trigger. if you're emailing docs containing the "don't email me" trap often enough that you get your account flagged, you've got bigger problems.
i also got a very clear and straightforward answer. asking from Canada - i wonder if that makes a difference?
>There's a tier which is just, "summarize things and do grammar checks, style tweaks, and boilerplate generation"
honestly, this tier is the 4GB model that ships in chrome and runs locally
the rumour mill the last two weeks has been referring to carbon and argon as "checkpoints" of the same model
i use sonnet to generate answers to help-desk tickets, which it does for significantly cheaper and insignificantly worse than opus.
if you're just talking about use in codex or claude code, then sure, leave it on opus all the time. but for running routine api requests, sonnet is great.
a bigger model still has more built-in knowledge to draw from, even without reasoning.
>everybody felt they’d need a training course.
in my experience there might be a few people for whom "the icons are different, i need a training course" is a legitimate concern. but for the vast majority of workers, it's not "i need a training course" it's "i feel like i can get away with demanding a training course" with the full knowledge that asking for a training course will derail the effort to make a change.
Evolution can’t compete with Joe Hollins
sounds likethey're making an argument for distrusting any CA for whom CA operations aren't a core part of their business.
>If you post silly benchmark scores too often, you will simply be ignored.
i don't know about that. it seems like the silly benchmarks keep getting paid attention to.
that sounds like a directive that was written to be vague enough to scare any government contractor away from using deepseek for anything ever.
the HOA managing a pool is definitely not the norm. and if it is, it's a pool club - somebody doesn't pay their dues, they should lose access to the pool, not their house.
most HOAs manage a tiny amount of communal green space that should have been turned over to become city property, but was held back as HOA property to give the HOA a reason to exist.
>Should the other members just suck it up forever?
given that an HOA is completely unnecessary... yes. you should suck it up forever. if you want to be part of an HOA and pay dues into it, good for you, go ahead.
if somebody else doesn't want to be part of your little club, why should you get to take their house away for that?
>My next subscription will probably be Z.ai
please don't subject yourself to this. z.ai subscriptions are not a good value. just pay API rates, or use a subscription like opencode go.
Will they though? I can get a brand new scale for less than $99 that has apple health integration.
Maybe some brands can command a $99 annual fee, but has withings got some loyal fan base? Seems unlikely for a third-tier fitness gadget company.
If you bought from a big-box retailer and you’re considering ditching ecobee because of this, you should try to return them. Even if you’re outside the return policy, if you’re pleasant to the customer service staff they might be able to help you.
Amazon reviews are essentially meaningless at this point, the important un-fakeable stat is return rates. Brands care, and retailers track it and will drop products with high return rates.
Can you try it with money instead of self-preservation?
There’s five people on one track, or a piece of my property worth $1 on the other that would be destroyed…
i remain convinced that google doesn't actually want anybody to use these models. they want to announce things, for the sake of their share price and their promotions.
but they don't want to share their compute with us. giving those resources to their ad targeting algos is more profitable than renting them to us. so they make it as hard as possible. they tried as hard as they could not to release a new pro model at all, but now that fight has been lost they at least need to make sure we don't use it.
>No iPad – or any portable Apple device - can be configured as a home hub for managing Matter-protocol devices.
hasn't apple been shipping thread radios in devices for a few years now, with no actual use for them? the only thing blocking iPads from being a home hub for managing matter protocol devices is that apple hasn't turned that feature on.
i mean, all webauthn is digital tokens. if you mean software-based, you're incorrect.
passkeys are hardware backed. it's the term for the browser or password manager exposing the secure enclave in your phone or computer as a webauthn credential store, just like a standalone security key.
passkeys _are_ fido/webauthn.
passkeys are a website telling you they don't trust you to manage your own password, and they would rather talk to your password manager directly and skip the meatbag in the middle.
and the websites are usually justified in saying that.
jokes? in america's most trusted news source? i don't think so
sure, but when you read beyond the headline in these events the story is never that the AI went rogue and disobeyed instructions. it's always that somebody gave it instructions to go make a mess, and then is surprised when the AI makes a mess.
