Madurai in Tamil Nadu state, India, may be one, I think - partly. Area of lanes around the Meenakshi temple probably look somewhat like they must have n000+ years ago. Flower, idli, dosa, parotta, sari, clothes, etc. shops, knick knacks, man-powered rickshaws, tame temple elephants blessing humans with trunks, etc.

Okay, maybe it is to lessen the load on the server from any one user during any given period. Makes sense if so. I'm assuming here that one reads online, rather than, say, downloading a PDF or other file of each book.

What does borrow mean in the context of online?
Re:Ask HN: Computer Science/History Books? on Saturday March 28, 2020 @02:53PM (#22713411)
I second some of the ones others have mentioned, e.g. like Soul of a New Machine, the Hackers book by Levy, the 2 Programming Pearls books by Jon Bentley, etc.

Bentley also wrote a less-often-mentioned gem of a book: Writing Efficient Programs. It is about performance tuning of programs at many levels, micro to macro.

Why is no one commenting on this here on HN, usually a very vocal place?

Checked ActiveState Tcl? Maybe they have one.

A vi editor quick-start tutorial:

I am the author (user vram22 on HN), posting from another phone, with a throwaway user name.

I first wrote this tutorial for two Windows sysadmin friends who had to handle some Unix servers. They told me it helped them to learn vi basics and so use Unix more easily.
