nolok on Hacker News
For what it's worth, as bad as the site became for question askers, it got even worse for people who answer.
I don't particularly care for e-points and that sort of things, but SO had whole entire way of telling you you are wrong why did you even dare answering, then creating "classes" of user (I apparently made MORE ranking points after I stopped using it than before ? Giving me more moderation power), then seeing "your" answers being edited left and right by people who add a comma or whatever
The whole joy for me was in answering people. It's just fun, I think many hackers get it, bad questions notwithstanding. But as some point they made that ... Less fun, for a lack of a better description. So I just stopped answering.
I love it for what it brought and the great times I had on it for years, but I've stopped actively using it (as opposed to just finding the answer through a google search) for a while and it was way before the rise of LLMs.
More to the point, I found fable to be actually more "intelligent" than opus once you step completly outside of the technical side of things (and I don't only mean code here), so for me it's hard to judge.
Eg asking "here are all the contract I'm subscribed to, here is what happened, is there any insurance that covers me and if yes which one is the best to make the claim to and why, and provide all the article to prove why and how i'm not in the exclusion list". Try it with random stuff of your every day life. Opus is both great and not great.
Apparently they prefer amateur german message boards or something
Given the % of traffic of the web it serves and over how long, I actually wonder if you have any proof that PHP actual track record in on the bad side because I think it will probably be on the better side actually, same for Wordpress specifically.
Sury is up for all versions too
Yes and no, you have two setup, you're on LTS, it will be backported (done as I write than on Debian), not on LTS and you already have hundreds of unsafe stuff running anyway so it's just one more to the pile.
If those place at using a LTS release of their OSes they will be patched quickly (Debian already has). If they're not, they're already screwed by a lot more than just PHP I guess.
They're updated for all versions
One of my first boss called it the bus factor, not sure where the term comes from. What's the minimum number that need to get hit by a bus before it's impossible to keep things running. He used to say "you always have some bus factor, but it should never be one unless you're alone, otherwise you deserve whatever crap is going to rain on you someday".
I've found that to be incredibly true in my career.
At least the last three I worked or consulted at, though I'm in Europe.
It really goes a long way when the law stop saying "it's not nice if" and starts saying "if you can even if you don't then you're guilty".
Doesn't really matter for the end result though
I agree on the "we're on the wrong path" though I don't share your conclusion's gravity, but some of these indicators feel very weird to be included imho. Total FDI and transistor per processor makes very little point on the matter.
It is very important to add that not all targets were created equal in the agreement, that was a major part of the negotiation. Not saying anything else, just that a simple reading of that statement might make you come to an underlying conclusion that isn't correct.
How naive of you. Are you saying it's not possible for Anthropic to have received a NSL ordering them to have the ability to spy on request on Airbus internal files for Boeing? I took on specific exemple where we have proof it happened, both sides both way, repeatedly, so the "of course it could / probably already did happen" is not a matter of discussion.
It's Mistral Large, they usually publish Medium and Small later
... Yes ? Though it does mean 0 new machine ordered, not no delivery of machine built. Sorry I'm not sure what information you're trying to convey.
70 machines does not mean 70 orders
What actual usage you want ? Because imho the answer is very different if you want code, or computer use, or vision, or text analysis, or ...
The subscription from frontier labs can handle all that (though each has its best strenght, they all perform well on most things), but it's usually a bit of a waste compared to taking the best one for you.
I have a Ryzen AI Max+ 395 with 128 GB for running those sort of "background task", and my sweet spot is currently Qwen3.8 Flash-Next IQ4 at 96 GB.
Your "other" makes no sense. It doesn't matter if you make a few big or a lot smaller, in space you will still need the same space for the same amount of megawatt. Or did you miss the scale of parent's post ? Because in that dream scenario of "let's ignore all the issues except that" and "the earth and the sun don't have any impact", it's still 3 THOUSANDS square meters for a MW of 8 racks.
You want to go smaller and go one rack only sure, it's still hundreds of square meters. Check the size of current orbital structure for a point of reference, you can't dwarf those and call it a "dataswarm of tiny datacenters flooding the sky".
I've been able to get some truly great digital copy of old analog printed photo using Google snapseed and a sub 1k€ smartphone and that was almost a decade ago, so I'm pretty sure anyone dedicated can.
While we're on this, I find it really really weird how windows defender insists on sending my codex work files for analysis all the time (which I block in automatic permissions so it has to ask me in a notification). I don't think i've seen it ask to upload more than one or two things, and it doesn't do it with other AI app I use (eg Claude Code) but they really want to see what's inside my codex files.
It's easy to trigger, I just need to go inside Codex settings and change something, it saves and instantly windows defender who never wants anything want to "you may be at risk, let me upload that for analysis yes/no".
But they can't? That's not how this works? Who do you think can do anything in name of the EU, beside either the parliament, or a body made of the named representative of each government?
There is no "they" in the EU that can do anything that isn't also constituted either equally or proportionally by each and every member.
Who are "the other members" in your message? Because if you mean all the 27 of course their government has to give approval, just like they did for the last one too
> EU is notoriously fractured and divided in the best of times, especially around membership.
Eh, we're less divided than people who think so realize, we're more divided than people who think we're united realize. Not really an issue on that particular case.
> Importantly, many EU countries have not ratified CETA
Like a lot of deals, including a big part of dicussion in the Canada/US talk, CETA's issues are about food.
But the thing is, unlike a lot of deal like Mercosur, CA/EU is very vast even excluding food, for BOTH sides of the talk. So I'm pretty sure we can figure things out.
It will definitely depend by work market, eg it's well known in France video game worker move to Quebec already.
It's a bit funny saying all the naysaying comments, "this is just a name", "you have an ocean between each other", ...
Yeah, it's only a name, that name represent a reciprocal want to work closer together and do something. What, how, we will figure it out, the fact that people on both side of the exchange are all for it says so.
We're not idiots we know there will be hurdle, on one side you have the federal country that managed to convince the french Quebec to stay and on the other you have 27 countries who managed to convince each other to work together, we will figure it out.
(given your nickname, this was your moment and you caught it)
When everyone goes crazy, a boring place that respect the law and fair exchanges feels much more welcoming.
And it's not even "novel" in the sense that this group already exist, except so far it was gravitating around the US, and it might just reorient to gravitate around someone else.
