>The current debt (whatever its size happens to be in the fiction being spun) will be paid off at the bills' rates and on the statutory schedules. Period.

Your blood pressure issues notwithstanding, I don't think you believe that the US can possibly default or renege in any way on its debt, so there may not be a point in going on. History has run this experiment before and sovereign nations absolutely can default and/or renege on debt obligations. I certainly hope we don't see that in the case of the US. But I'm also not irrational enough to believe it's impossible.

>Yes, the US government is going to pay off that debt. Which is why they were able to borrow it in the first place.

There may come a time when the interest on the debt becomes so out of control that it cannot be serviced, likely in conjunction with people dumping bonds and leaving interest rates soaring. Meaning, America's credit goes up in flames. We're obviously not there yet and maybe it will never happen. That said, remember when Trump backed off extreme levels of the "Liberation Day" tariffs? Real fears of bond-dumping seem to have a lot to do with the more measured (relatively-speaking) approach to tariffs we're now seeing. If debt holders dump the 10-year bonds enough, it causes real issues for debt repayment.

Anyone who owns US treasuries. That may be you. But I am sure many here own US debt. Institutions and sovereign entities own quite a bit. The US Social Security Trust Fund is a major holder as well.
We got BBM on Android and iOS. Alas, by then it was mostly too late. It got some initial traction but that didn't last.
You could argue that some of them aren't bothering to pretend at this point.
Re:Charlie Kirk shot at event in Utah on Wednesday September 10, 2025 @03:55PM (#45202748)
From the article:

“ Kirk went on to say, “And by the way, if some amazing patriot out there in San Francisco or the Bay Area wants to really be a midterm hero, someone should go and bail this guy out … Bail him out, and then go ask him some questions.” "

Watch the leaks over the next year or so. There have been rumours of a foldable coming as soon as next year.
One can argue that we're only seeing the beginning of the destruction. The economic policies of this administration could take years to be fully realized. That also means that, unfortunately, it will take years to repair the damage.
Zuckerberg knew he needed to come up with a wild number because of Trump's presence. This is what is becoming normalized.

It does seem better in many regards, but the usage limits get hit quickly even with a paid account.
The manner in which Harris got the nomination, deciding at the convention, isn't atypical and was the norm in earlier American history. The party decides how this goes. There is nothing Constitutionally-mandated about how they do it.

>I'm talking about him in relation to Usain Bolt. The latter is yet to be caught doping (if he is on juice to begin with).

Of the top men's 100m runners (in terms of times) only a few escaped the testing dragnet unscathed, one of which is Bolt. As entertaining as Bolt was to watch I have little faith that he was clean at his peak.

>Shouldn't even be considered due to his history with doping.

People are naive about how much sports are riddled with PEDs. It certainly isn't just Tyson Gay. You only know about the ones who get caught. But there is enough info out there to suggest that getting caught is just a matter of slipping up.

This reminds me of how annoying it is that Apple News+ can't be bundled at a lower tier of Apple One. It only comes bundled with the Premier level, at least in Canada.

The 747 still has demand as a cargo plane. I bet we see them flown for a long time to come, with most remaining passenger configs gradually being converted to cargo.

Even Cadel Evans had some connections to the likes of Michele Ferrari (Armstrong's own doping doc).

You don't need them, but they do make things easier for a lot of people. With Android, at least, you can do plenty from the command line if that's your jam.
They've been far too slow to respond to Twitter/X's missteps to be able to take advantage. Threads won that race by a wide margin, even if it is still relatively lacking in features.

Planning poker is only useful in the context of who may be doing the work, and even then I'm not sure how useful it really is. What is an 8 to one dev may be a 5 to another, as one may have a better grasp of the problem space than the other. In short, one shouldn't assume equality across the team for ability to do given task.

Very slow this morning for me as well.
Re:Ask HN: Is ChatGPT4 broken since last weekend? on Tuesday November 14, 2023 @09:21AM (#38263591)
>So certainly not broken for me at all

You are contradicting yourself (or so it seems to me) if you corroborate that you're seeing a certain issue, then claiming nothing is broken for you.

>They can be impeached?

To answer your question: yes.

Re:DALL·E 3 is now available in ChatGPT Plus and Enterprise on Thursday October 19, 2023 @02:47PM (#37946897)
I quickly found that this feature has rate limits: "I apologize for the inconvenience, but due to rate limits, I'm unable to generate images at this moment. Please wait for 14 minutes before generating more images. In the meantime, I'm here to help with any other questions or information you might need."

>"won't someone think of the children!?!?!" is a meme for a reason.

Indeed, and it is well-represented here. In fact, I assumed we'd see some of it here and went looking for it. I was not disappointed. It means plenty of people missed the point entirely.

>I'm one of those people "on the fence".

Versus

>I can tell you now that honestly a good study won't convince me to trust the prevailing narrative.

You're not on the fence.

>But your browser tells you when your location is being used?

Is that a question? Yes, it does, at least mine does.

>It’s not like Google can secretly use your location without your browser alerting you to it?

Same thing, ts that actually a question? You shouldn't have location permission being used without your consent.

Re:Ask HN: Why is home property information so public? on Sunday September 03, 2023 @07:06PM (#37375483)
In my Canadian town the owners of a given property and the taxes they pay are available to the public. But indeed that doesn't mean we have access to sale prices, which are often very different from assessed values for purposes of taxation.
