Re:Ask HN: Successful one-person online businesses? on Wednesday October 23, 2019 @07:18AM (#21333400)
From the list of businesses in this thread this was the one that caught my eye. However, I am Australian and a lot of the time businesses don't ship here. Like you say, it's a physical business, you need to move physical products.

I opened your website and immediately looked for shipping, 'countries you ship to' is nowhere to be found until checkout, where there is a dropdown with no options other than the USA.

I doubt it will be most new devices that actually use data are now being shipped with it, even my drone came with usb-c

Soon enough there will be a major shift

They use massive mega apps e.g. WeChat
You're probably requesting with a degree of sense.

If you requested your 5.6 weeks off all at once and over an go-live date that you were 100% responsible for, you might receive a request to see if you could move those holidays a bit later

They offered Amazon $3B tax breaks, while the city would have profited $27B. The city would have a net gain of $24B.

Now the city doesn't gain anything.

Re:Marc Andreessen: VR will be 1,000 times bigger than AR on Monday January 07, 2019 @11:54PM (#18853272)
I'm not sure VR headsets are the future of gaming either.

I had one of the PSVR headsets and it makes gaming even more isolationist.

Playing a console (where I believe the majority of gamers come from) is quite casual, you sit on the couch quite a distance from the screen with a basic controller.

Playing on the PC is more serious endeavour, often with headphones and sitting quite close to the screen.

VR is even more serious than playing on the PC, you need a dedicated space (to run around), you're completely cut off from the outside world.

VR means you really want to set yourself up for a long gaming session, due to the headset it is always going to be quite isolationist in ways other avenues are not.

I was on that project as a grad.

They spent a billion dollars, over 5 years, with a staff of 1,000 strong to replace old software.

I would be surprised if even 20 of the 1,000 were touching COBOL.

How is that not solving a problem? Isn't this the purpose of undergrounds/metros?

YBB YBP?

This is some pretty incredible jargon is this widely used, I've never seen it before and needed to look it up.

Is it really that hard to say 2,500 years ago?

You could change that.

I loved using D3 directly and found it amazing.

The banks spent $1B dollars,

What are you saying they've not adopted.

neither of these are acceptable government business reasons to keep cash

It's SWIFT based.
They didn't do much about equifax so I'd be very suspicious of such statements about American data protection standards.

Side note, just was delivered a Shield.

They are horrible. - Constantly hijacking HDMI from other sources - Remote has a sticky down button - Voice turns on and off for no reason and starts operating.

None of the banks really wanted instant transactions, it's expensive, the RBA essentially forced them to.

Sure kill the credit cards who gives a fuck.

Knowing where uber users residents live, their standard time home on a friday or saturday night, whether or not they're throwing up with a chance on not remembering anything (I stole) would be fantastic. Oh, I could also sell this to anyone doing ANY datamining to easily enrich their data set.

This is 10 seconds worth of thought, do you really think the Uber data set has so little value?

Gold is a pain to use for transactions, and so are shares, but they still store value and people continue to speculate on their future worth?

Ikea has started delivery in Australia as well.

... and I can take my shiny metal (gold) and mould it into a replica spanish gold ingot, it doesn't mean my gold bar is worth the same as the original in fact it's worth substantially less.

By creating YC Coin, Reddit Coin or Facebook coin you're not increasing the supply of the original Bitcoin you're creating a replica of the original.

In fact, by creating the vast array of coins you have you're actually demonstrating why none of them have value, they're a dime a dozen and none of them are the original bitcoin. But a 'KarmaCoin' adopted by those websites might have substantially more value (but good luck with that!).
