A native English-speaking HNer doesn't know their MBTI letters?

Well if that's not a typical young Korean, then who is?

Younger generations are now heavily into MBTI. And I mean heavily: you won't find a person under 35 or so who doesn't know their MBTI letters.

Why would he be?

I wouldn't dare say that to a colleague or friend, because although they might appear to take it well, I don't think I'd be doing our relationship any favors. I'd step out with an excuse instead.

But given my lifestyle, I almost never have to be around anybody who's eating, except in contexts in which I can't hear them eating (busy brunch, say).

A lot of them are autistic and they enjoy applying their version of "order" to a chaotic system.

The overlap between subreddit moderators and Dungeons & Dragons moderators is probably quite high.

Unfalsifiable does not mean pseudoscientific. Plenty of things might be unfalsifiable for humans (e.g. humans lack the cognitive capacity to conceive of ways to falsify them), but then easily falsifiable for whatever comes after humans.
> Public confidence in scientists fell from 87 percent in April 2000 to a low of 73 percent in October 2023

It's incredible public confidence in scientists is still that high.

When the public turned to scientists with valid questions, they were met with "just trust me bro" and mockery for "doing your own research" in response to being dismissed.

Even worse: the "just trust me bro" people kept being wrong about one thing after another, then pretending a year later the opposite position was their position all along.

The general public isn't smart, but most people can remember life-and-death information they were given a year back.

> They just gave patients a seemingly random score that nobody understood, on a scale of one to infinity.

I mean obviously it's broken UX and/or poor architecture overall. That's not an AI-creep problem.

Takeaway: Bad AI is bad. Good AI is good.

We're perhaps middling at diagnosing neurology issues and we're terrible at treating them. Absolutely useless. If we haven't moved the needle in the last 50 years, then let's try to use AI to do it.

There'll be casualties along the way, but it's a lot better than being stuck in the dark ages blindly trying to repair neurological problems with stone knives and bearskins for another 3 generations.

No, not at all like incels or MGTOW. When women do it it's stunning and brave. It's a protest for what's right.

When men do it it's cowardly and needy, a result of being so unworthy that no reasonable person would want to be around them.

I'm not even a graphic designer and Pixelmator Pro has paid for itself many times over. I can't believe Mac users (outside professional graphic-design) would willingly pay Adobe.

Only specific humans do, not typically fellow SaaS makers.

It would be better if the reviewers were also the target audience.

Re:Price increase for .COM, .XYZ, and more domains on Thursday August 22, 2024 @12:43PM (#41322055)
But you don't understand: what "your government" is doing is really bad. And a big part of Namecheap's team is the recipient of what "your government" is doing. And you paying taxes to "your government", or even at the grocery store as you live your nondescript life, is you implicitly supporting "your government" in doing those bad things.

Therefore dropping you as a customer with almost zero notice is warranted (you monster).

If you don't like it, then email our team and plead with us and justify yourself. Tell us you're one of the good ones. We might deign to give you a bit more time to pack your bags.

(To sarcastically paraphrase the Namecheap CEO's statements here on HN.)

Re:Price increase for .COM, .XYZ, and more domains on Thursday August 22, 2024 @06:35AM (#41318662)
Same here- I used to have all my domains on Namecheap until their CEO came on HN to announce that anybody who forced their parents to give birth to them in Russia has exactly 1 week to transfer all their domains away somewhere else.

I don't fall into that category, but this was so ignorant and insulting that I transferred away all my domains to Cloudflare and never looked back.

> Technically, additive manufacturing can refer to any process where a product is created by building something up, such as molding, but it typically refers to 3-D printing.

BoJ interest rates went from <0 to >0.

With a sentiment shift like that, the decimal numbers themselves almost don't matter. It was guaranteed to result in a shakeup.

I stupidly upgraded my Kindle 4 to the latest firmware, and apparently there's no jailbreak for that and no way to downgrade.

The reason we have the technology to discover non-obvious things is thanks to thousands of years of profit-seeking.

Why can't there be a gender gap in tech?

There's a gender gap in waste disposal and kindergarten teaching, but there's no "Girls in waste disposal" or "Boys in Kindergarten teaching".

> Using the Spotify API you can find random music, then find random instrumental music from that random music.

For this, I made a Spotify playlist with 41 hours of instrumental soundtrack music that helps me focus. It's not random like yours, but with that many hours, there's enough variation if you put it on shuffle.

It's mostly epic and uplifting movie scores. Or suspenseful and building up to something... none of that 8-bit video game beep boop shrill stuff.

Re:Ask HN: Why are some soundtracks of movies so powerful? on Tuesday March 22, 2022 @08:29PM (#30773388)
Soundtracks are designed to be thrilling, uplifting, suspenseful, etc and they're an underrated source of programming focus. My muscle memory is to press they keyboard play button the moment I open VS Code. I don't even realize I'm doing it: programming = soundtrack listening.

The keyboard play button always works, btw, only because I've installed BeardedSpice to force it:

    brew install --cask beardedspice
I made a Spotify playlist with 32 hours of Soundtracks that help me stay in the zone. It's all sort of epic & uplifting, or suspenseful and building up to something... none of that 8-bit video game beep boop nonsense.

Lots of Hans Zimmer, James Horner, Danny Elfman, David Newman, John Williams of course...

Here's a link if you'd like to see the list: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/31buZEaVGW9f5Y4cEcKtbt?si=...
