Reddit has lots of them. Not sure why google can’t pick them up. YouTube also has specific reviews on anything you might want. Considering google owns YouTube, it’s strange that these results don’t bubble to the top.

We benefited from the incessant hiring with outsized compensations. Now we’re on the flip side of that. If you want stability, tech is not the place for you.

Toyota is different. They’re also making EVs… they’re just not _only_ making EVs. If EVs really start to take off on their own, Toyota will already have multiple offerings to fill that gap

EVs are definitely going to remain a first-world item for my lifetime at least. If everyone other than Toyota goes completely electric, Toyota is going to be the monopoly automaker in every underdeveloped country and will be laughing all the way to the bank. I’m with the Toyota CEO on this one. If you’ve stepped outside a devolved country for even a few days… I just can’t fathom how all-electric is going to be realistic
Re:California Declares Grid Emergency

It’s not economics - it’s a mandate.
It’s the other way around. California is the biggest car market on the planet. All car makers target California (and to some extent Texas), so whatever California will buy, carmakers will build. And since California has outlawed gas cars by 2035, auto makers have declared they will stop making them by 2035.

From my experience, people who score extremely well on standardized tests do amazingly well in professional/knowledge-based fields. Of the top scorers in my high school class, many are not just doctors, lawyers, engineers, and business-people… but they are _top_ doctors, lawyers, engineers, and business-people. When I hear about those students through the vine, it is like “of course they’re successful - I would be surprised if they weren’t” sort of feeling.

You have to be careful with the line of reasoning that just because these certain managers and team members are part of a cult that is known to engage in bad acts, doesn’t mean you can cast the group’s shortcomings upon the individuals (without proof). If that were the case, I can point out a few mainstream religions that condone reprehensible practices, many of whose members you probably work with daily
Re:Amazon Engineer Sues for Work from Home Costs
on Sunday June 12, 2022 @12:42PM (#31715884)
The company offers you a salary/wage. It is up to you to determine whether that can cover your commute costs and if the job is worth it when factoring that in. If the company gets involved in calculating individual commute expenses for everyone, they’ll have to hire a department of accountants to handle it. Instead, companies pay you a lump sum (salary) and you decide what to do with it. This is one of the basic purposes of our market economy

This is a great case of where statistics don’t tell the whole story. I’ve seen multiple crimes in SF that I don’t bother reporting since I know the police won’t do anything about it. So up this years’ stats by at least a few notches in the vandalism, car breakin, theft, sale of illegal goods, and bodily harm inflicted upon another categories…

Where are the good areas? I work from SF occasionally (SoMa), but many of my post-work exploration (of restaurants and bars) lead me to walk through or near places that are aptly described by the “hellscape” comparisons. I get skeeved out to the max.
Are there better places to hang out for rich people/people in the know? Random walks are rarely fruitful for me here in SF compared to other large cities I’ve been to.
Also, for what it’s worth, I’m not sure people who live in the city have noticed the decline from its prepandemic “peak”. As someone who visits a few times a year, the changes are far more dramatic.
