Re:Why American ambulance rides are so expensive on Friday July 10, 2026 @07:43AM (#48858608)
> It's a question of "Should someone in a situation where they need an ambulance have to balance the potentially life-threatening impact of saying no versus the potentially financially ruinous impact of saying yes?"

Only a complete moron would think the answer to this is no. If there's no personal cost to using an extremely expensive service, every one is going to use it regardless of whether it's actually necessary. It will quickly turn into a free taxi service for anyone who wants to go anywhere near a hospital.

The only way a free ambulance system could work is if there were harsh penalties for people who abuse the system. Unfortunately, the American Democrat party has shown countless times that they have no interest in preventing fraud. Prominent Democrats like Tim Walz and Gavin Newsome have spent more time in the last year pushing laws to protect fraudsters than prosecuting them.

The fact that this person thinks the Afghanistan exit was a success should have let you know he is a crackpot well before the last sentence.
If you think you can produce them for cheaper, you could make yourself a lot of money and save taxpayers a lot of money by starting your own company.
This is effectively just a tariff. An extremely large and disproportionate fine on a foreign company so that the local company has a better chance to compete.
> A bigger question is, what is the expected outcome from this reporting? Is it that Brussels shouldn't welcome events like this? Is it that the US needs to elect different leaders?

Definitely the latter. The primary goal of all journalists is to brainwash people into voting against their own interests.

It is a truly insane policy to grant citizenship to the kid of any tourist who happens to give birth on vacation. If the Supreme Court won't correct this, we need to pass a Constitutional Amendment to do it ourselves.
"Trump's efforts to outlaw free speech" is a wild thing to put in the lede. Trump isn't doing anything more to outlaw free speech here than Biden did with the Jan 6 prosecutions.

Effective propaganda needs to be subtle so that most people don't realize they're being deceived. These authors clearly have no idea what they're doing.

If it's so easy to make money without doing anything as a landlord, what's stopping you from doing it and donating the profits to charity?
Re:U.S. Science Is in Chaos on Wednesday June 17, 2026 @03:28PM (#48575534)
US Science needed this. Racism, sexism, plagiarism, and fraud were rampant in the academic community. It's going to take a long time to fully fix the problem, but we are on the right path currently.
Hormuz being closed hurts Iran way more than it does the US. It's shocking that they're persisting on this strategy. That's the problem with authoritarians though: they'd rather rule over rubble than be an average citizen in a prosperous society.
They don't need to because he has already been arrested in New York.

There should be some sort of basic literacy requirement for people to post of this forum.

Biden got literally 0% of the vote despite 538 predicting him to win.

They chose to pretend Biden's mental decline wasn't happening because that was the Democrat party line at the time. How can you trust predictions from someone who is willing to manipulate his results to prop up his political party?

Good is relative. If somebody struggles with getting their hand-written code to compile, the LLM coding agents will look like geniuses to them.

An idiosyncrasy of humanity is that the dumbest individuals tend to also be the loudest.

This is a website where anybody can trivially create multiple accounts in minutes. It has minimal protections against abuse. The strength of the community relies entirely on its obscurity and it's no longer obscure.

It died as a home for intellectuals the moment it became big enough to be a viable platform for political propaganda (many years ago).
