Our HOA is forced to use an email mailing list. Enough older people who don't use facebook... and now younger people who refuse. Maybe ask for a show of hands at the next meeting. Sentiments can change overnight. Especially with the meta stuff happening at the moment.

Stopped using social media a few years ago (deleted all content and stopped using the accounts). Finally got annoyed enough and wrote my own NopeMod in tampermonkey last year that scans all pages I visit and disables URLs of links I do NOT want to visit. X/twitter/facebook/etc...

I had a job running the computer lab at the College of Nursing when I was attending University. Lot's of women with lot's of computer questions. I remember teaching my future wife how to use a mouse for the first time... and send an email for the first time. Yes, it was a while ago. Anyway... my advice would be to find real life places where people you are attracted to congregate... and go there... maybe find out what they are interested in and be interested in it as well... and then approach and talk to a bunch of them. Church never worked for me. Dancing did... but I didn't want to marry a dancer. Singing did... but I didn't want to marry a singer. Bar-hopping did... but I didn't want to marry any of them either. Turns out I have a thing for brainy nurses who also like Star Trek. Who knew.
Would you stop eating vegetables after AI unlocks communication with plants? No... and No.
Re:Winter Is Here: Slowing Down to Fight Sad on Sunday December 04, 2022 @01:18PM (#33856124)
This is exactly what I do as well. I am in midwest (UT and CO). 4000 IU per day keeps SAD away. Do the research to find out what works for you. I tried tanning but that was too much of a pain and really bad for the skin. Being outside worked as well. However, I am inside a ton. Vitamin D3 supplements fit the bill.

Symmetry fixation thing. I sort of used to have to do most things an even number of times. Wind the watch. Pushups. Jumping jacks. Whatever. Anything that required a count. I switched to counting to a prime 3 or greater and the anxiety just went away. Been doing that for years now. Took me awhile to realize I was even doing it in my head... and luckily the fix was pretty easy.

Ha. I have to admit while I don't technically have to wind it (at all) I still find myself doing that as well. Pick it up... wind it a prime number of times... put it on for the day.

OMG. I hadn't played with winamp in years. Then a few weeks ago I stumbled on webamp.org and it was such a blast from the past. Winamp in a web browser! So cool. Double click on the visualization to full-screen it.

Analog watch... but auto-wound. Just have to wear it and it winds itself.

Emacs and evil mode... or spacemacs... I want my cake and eat it too. :)
