And stall and sell your data quicker. It will certainly be a boon for companies and government agencies that want to profile.
I think only because these are all things that AI companies are saying will be helped by AI so give us more money. Nobody advertises their product publicly as "you will be able to buy other product to do the same things you do now but pay people less and make more profits" even though that is where the value is for them.

Re:Our position on open-weights models on Tuesday July 28, 2026 @03:06AM (#49080376)
> 1. My primary concern is the risk that authoritarian governments—not solely the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), although the CCP is clearly the most capable threat—build AI models that are more powerful than those built by the US, and use them to achieve permanent military superiority or perpetrate incredibly deep repression of their own people.

What a nice implicit way to say that it would be okay if the authoritarian government is the current US government trying to perpetrate incredibly deep repression of their own people.

I have a friend who is a peace negotiator in the balkans for 20 years. He has lots of amusing (to my horrifying) stories of cat and mouse interrogations with the FSB etc as he travels between Moscow, Kyiv and the West. He uses threema and signal for most diplomatic conversations, but when he travels he only carries burner phones.

If you don't trust a government, ensure you aren't carrying any information you don't want to give up before entering their borders where you will be under their power.

Re:Patreon laying off 20% of staff on Monday July 27, 2026 @03:12AM (#49066070)
based on how we've been behaving over the last 10 years, essentially yes. We are all just hoping to crawl up high enough that us and our offspring might survive while the world literally burns and billionaires and capitalism managed to destroy any movement to slow down our destruction of our environment and sustainable economies for faster short term extraction of profit and power for themselves.
Maybe it's the worm doing it?
Everyone pushing tools/AI during initial development/investment and building its demand in the cultural discourse always highlights its ability for good.

Now, like many tools, the majority of those selling AI to make money off of large enterprise sell its ability to increase productivity, efficiency, compliance. Either to make money or to minimise risk. And so like you say, they just become tools to make these metrics move or report them at higher granularity. And often there is either a lack of imagination or a willful ignorance of the perverse outcomes with relationship to humans because they are in service of the organisation not it's employees.

Re:Asian AI startups launch Mythos-like models on Saturday June 27, 2026 @11:50PM (#48704161)
I agree with everything you said about their situation, but it's not like that is what will be evaluated in an IPO. There will be continued hype by the companies, lobbying to win support of a corrupt administration, and a narrative spin by clueless media about this AI revolution that will give investors fomo.

Re:How to Earn a Billion Dollars on Monday June 15, 2026 @01:47AM (#48537077)
That's half my point. Because what you said might be true, and yet, the argument by Capital is often that they are working HARDER THAN EVERYONE else to get their wealth and everyone else is lazy. Which is a) both irrelevant as you state, and b) a sign they need the validation that they are putting in effort / more effort to justify what they are extracting from everyone else.
Re:How to Earn a Billion Dollars on Sunday June 14, 2026 @09:31PM (#48535407)
Yes their are. Majority of elected officials are just their instrument. The amount of money billionaires spend shaping media, lobbying and campaigns to get power and push propaganda to determine who is elected makes the fight to get people like AOC who are working in the interest of society so much harder.
Re:How to Earn a Billion Dollars on Sunday June 14, 2026 @09:20PM (#48535304)
100%

A lot of comments seem to not assume that ownership is equivalent to 'earning'. Why does capital need to pretend their wealth growth is equivalent to the effort of labour.

That was the conspiracy story about pokemon go when it first came out! That it will be used by the military!

Re:Flipper One – we need your help on Friday May 22, 2026 @01:57AM (#48232505)
It's typically the name for the front of computer programming that is 'doing human type stuff'. Once it's not on the front and the wave has passed, the AI name moves on.
Re:AI is a technology not a product on Monday May 18, 2026 @12:13AM (#48175507)
This is great when everyone is smart, aligned in the purpose, has no politics, dog in the fight, but awful everywhere else.

It's the difference between peer review by leaders in the field trying to make your paper better, and juniors wanting to be heard or insecure academics trying to get an ego boost by nit picking and wasting time.

Intellectual bloodbath sounds like so much of the latter with point scoring being the goal.

I use jellyfin server on my NAS with wireguard + symfonium (android client) on my phone for streaming, but I mostly stream out of the house on my phone.
Re:When Your Digital Life Vanishes on Monday April 27, 2026 @12:52AM (#47917814)
+1

I have multiple syncthings between phone and home nas:

- Photos (immich on server/mobile). I use master on phone, so immich don't delete on phone, and then rotate my folders out of syncthing directory and then clean my on device camera photo every few months

- Notes: (Obsidian on server/mobile). flawless

- SyncFolder: random folder to move between the two.

They are not the fall guys. They are at the buffet with the biggest plates, and when the buffet ends, they'll have the most food on their plates.
They sold Motorola to Lenovo in 2014

Yeah - Stock Android! We are not in the states, but might have to investigate further if it works for others.

It's more frustrating because my partner's pixel 4A cannot use google pay or the bank apps because it is an invalid os - I am guessing due to lack of updates? So, perfectly fine hardware, but crippled in functionality due to the lack of software updates.
Re:Ask HN: Are you using an agent orchestrator to write code? on Friday February 13, 2026 @12:47AM (#46999340)
I tried to opposite because claude was not coding as well as codex some additional modules for my codebase and codex could. Then I tried to get claude to read and critique and it got so many fundamentals wrong I was wondering if I am using the wrong model.

Which copilot?

github copilot? bing copilot? office365 copilot? office365 copilot chat? windows copilot? or one of those clippy like copilots in dev environments that can't do anything but point you to the wrong documentation?

I hear you. It's so prevalent now it is tiring. And LLMs has given them the last delusion that they are now also 'technical'.

What are you referring to?
I have bought three for all my relatives since 2015, and finally bought one for myself. They are still in stock and sold by local brick and mortar retailers as well as online!

I use the n100 for jellyfin, and shield for streaming and controller with jellyfin client.
