Radio telescopes often are much larger than JWST and/or are interferometric arrays, which in either case remain impractical to deploy to orbit.

State and Main run parallel to each other (in SLC at least). The zero point for north/south in SLC is S Temple, not State.
Re:Ask HN: Has anyone fixed their own bruxism? on Sunday June 28, 2020 @09:48AM (#23668667)
When I developed a clenching habit, I resolved it by training myself to put my tongue in the correct position in my mouth. It is pretty simple: with your lips closed but your teeth not touching, place the tip of your tongue right where your gums and your two top front teeth meet. That's it. At first it takes effort but once the habit and muscle memory develops it'll happen naturally. This eliminated my bruxism because now my jaw has a healthy resting state.

Gödel, Escher, Bach - the book by Hofstadter.
The thought of humanity destroying the environment to get the oil and then, in a fit of panic and at great expense, pumping it back into the ground, caused me to erupt in laughter.
Thanks for the straw man. American WW2 mobilization didn't kill ten million people - that's not an intrinsic attribute of a country focusing on something.

Think also new deal / public works projects like the Hoover Dam (many died working on the Dam but not because it was a government mobilization project). Just the government spending a bunch of money on environmentally focused projects could happen and could be good.

Re:Make your website a black hole to big tech on Thursday December 05, 2019 @04:52PM (#21716998)
This is just an advertisement for the company. It doesn't really say anything substantive. "Google bad, we better!"
That's true but they can take (nearly) straight paths to their destination without stopping and idling, and are smaller and lighter.
This is true of most (perhaps all) big tech (perhaps all) companies.

That's not true. You can do conditional premoves on the analysis board.

Parent meant that Sony marketed the PS2 with undelivered promises.
I liked it. It made me happy and sad.

Dumb joke notwithstanding, the fourth farmer remains in the field? How's that 'fooling the baboons'? Or is the whole comment supposed to be nonsense?

I'm not the target market and I don't have any idea how to use your tool. The UI reminds me of old grayscale Mac OS. Salespeople are (usually, I'm stereotyping) 'dressed to impress'. Maybe you should put a tie on your project.
Re:Blue-collar wages are surging. Can it last? on Tuesday November 21, 2017 @11:10AM (#15748818)
Are you against this? Flexible working hours that can bend to accommodate very malleable human lives seems better than rigid adherence to traditional schedules for the sake of it.

Different universities work differently in the US. Some have categories of majors, like UW [0], where some are free to declare but others have requirements/prerequisites.

365.25 / 30 * $10 == $121.75

vs. $120.00 if it was per month. Slightly indeed.

I'm not sure where the parent is drawing that claim from but I imagine they could continue to exist with government subsidies.
