As far as I can tell the military believes this and keeps telling presidents this time they can just go bomb things and win. It might need a leadership change there instead of in the white house really
What sovereignty exactly did we get from messing around in the middle east?

Tons of webforums have donation links or premium memberships. People will pay for their name to be displayed in a different color and basically nothing else, and it's not super hard if you have a few hundred users to pay for servers this way.

It's a fine model so long as you don't need it to scale to one million active users.

I think the allegations for the LessWrong types started with the math pet thing?
Re:Suicide rates highest ever among middle-aged men on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @06:10PM (#50096145)
It depends on how you define sex. Hormones cover most expressions from chromosomes already. Skull reconstruction could be better? Maybe some way to really rework skeletons and adjust height and hips or shoulders? But that's more on the cosmetic end.

Or if you want at will, it would be good to have some way to radically speed up changes. You're still looking at 3-8 years for some things.

Wives organizing social events, I think is part of the conventional wisdom? And more communal work and eating together after work etc.
Re:Suicide rates highest ever among middle-aged men on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @04:47PM (#50094983)
It can be scary and hard to approach, but I would think you're not unexceptional or unimportant to your loved ones. Maybe you should talk to your wife about this at some point? It sounds like you're starting on this with date nights too which does seem good.

I hope you can find something that helps you feel like you're not just treading water, though.

Re:Suicide rates highest ever among middle-aged men on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @04:36PM (#50094804)
It advances every so often. We might have womb transplants in the next decade, surgical techniques get more and more refined, etc.

Doing things to share them with others is pretty normal in a hobby. You might be baking for friends and family or sewing clothes or whatever, and want to enjoy the recipients appreciation for it. If people don't accept your gifts, the satisfaction of it will go away, and the same is often true of small coding projects I think.
Re:How the Military Will Hack the Election on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @03:23PM (#50093511)
they mean building bridges with other Americans, very obviously to me.
Re:How the Military Will Hack the Election on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @03:19PM (#50093451)
if you don't trust the us military it's obviously bad, right?
Re:Passkeys Are Not a Trap on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @12:46PM (#50090685)
Can I do hardware attestation across several devices yet? My desktop, my phone, a console, my girlfriends phone of a different brand if I need to log into a shared account, etc?

It seems like one of those things that only works if you're sticking to one ecosystem.

It seems harder to sell on device ai as a subscription, I would guess? although the much lower inference costs mean maybe you could just sell it as a one time purchase
To be fair a lot of parties in the UK have appeared or changed names since around Brexit. I think "labour and tories" might have been simpler for American audiences than Reform vs Restore vs Rehab or whoever is up now
Re:Amazon pushes up prices across the Internet on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @09:15AM (#50087270)
You still have same day shipping? I still get two days on basically everything even with prime, at the fastest. I thought their delivery service was getting worse after the pandemic or something
Re:Character.ai files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @03:34PM (#50077369)
After all those people with chatgpt boyfriends, I think maybe yeah? any long term roleplay chat is going to tend towards that.
Re:Character.ai files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @11:51AM (#50073655)
It seems like a bad way to get ai psychosis from personifying a LLM too hard. Keep your roleplay organic and find some friendly partners maybe
Not sure if it's related but there was a vuln published in August for the freezers in the article

https://www.claroty.com/team82/research/freeze-the-controlle...

maybe groups have been looking for targets to use it on?

Re:QGIS bans AI assisted contributions on Monday October 12, 2026 @11:56AM (#50058263)
They'll destroy the prestige of it by doing this, though. Unfortunately the OSS model will have to change to cut them off now, and the more people rush it the faster that response will happen.
Re:NYC's "Click to Cancel" rule is now in effect on Sunday October 11, 2026 @04:30PM (#50047506)
What's the justification for the phone or chat cancellation anyway? I get why they do it to make more money but it seems like it would be kind of nakedly extractive to explain the policy to anyone.
This is banning users who are cruel, not banning the model from being cruel right?

So in principle it shouldn't change the model or performance at all, they're just going to cut off your account if they see certain things in the user side of your session transcripts.

one or two? this has been standing us law since the bush era.

they must mean https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TikTok_USDS

but I believe they are a joint UAE and US company, not Israeli

Re:US Man Given Prison Sentence for Bot-Farming Music Streams on Thursday October 08, 2026 @10:28PM (#50015243)
You don't have to go that far for bad stuff Spotifys done - at minimum they used pirated libraries back at their start, etc, and they've overall contributed to less payouts for artists. Kind of the Uber of music.
Re:US Man Given Prison Sentence for Bot-Farming Music Streams on Thursday October 08, 2026 @06:30PM (#50013337)
Arguably he reduced the payout of real musicians by doing this, so he did harm real people too.
Re:US Man Given Prison Sentence for Bot-Farming Music Streams on Thursday October 08, 2026 @04:16PM (#50011522)
Who said those are legal? I'm sure that could be securities or wire fraud.
Re:AI-assisted proof of optimal packing for 11 squares on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @12:28PM (#49995067)
They got updated to be smaller this year, so maybe there's still more gains to be had?
How is your process for selling the results? do you have a buyer lined up who is loaning the robots for this in some kinda sponsorship deal, do you intend to sell it as a service later on?

This is pretty wild. Google can't align their own tools for it?
