Re:Mamdani Bans AI in NYC Schools on Wednesday September 02, 2026 @06:11PM (#49543292)
Communicating with adults and handling the friction of conversing with others is a skill students need to gain, especially at this age. Talking to a machine that will always suit your style of talking isn't always good.
Re:Debian votes to allow "responsible use of generative AI" on Saturday August 29, 2026 @01:53PM (#49491826)
The voters here are people active on the mailing list, not general users of Debian or LLM automated PR contributors.
The bird scene at the end where it repeatedly smashes into the window really hit me... something this version does better than the original.

Reminded me of how deadmau5 named his track The Veldt after the homonymous story by Ray Bradbury.
Re:Minecraft: Java Edition now uses SDL3 on Sunday July 19, 2026 @09:10AM (#48967929)
osu (the rhythm game) also recently switched to SDL3, from SDL2, and it came with significant performance/latency improvements. SDL3 adoption is a bit slow it seems. Though, I'm surprised Minecraft used GLFW all this time.

One notable thing is that switching to SDL3 eliminated lag from having Discord client open while playing osu. Pretty sure this was from their devlog on YouTube.

never expected valadaptive to be on front page of HN

Re:What it means that Ubuntu is using Rust on Monday February 23, 2026 @01:49PM (#47126852)
Unrelated to the language debate, but it seems a lot of people here missed the fact that Rust Coreutils project is licensed under MIT, and I am not sure if I feel that it is the appropriate license for such project. As much as FSF's philosophy has bad PR at times with Stallman, the GPL licenses really do protect open source. Who knows what Canonical would do when all parts of Ubuntu become MIT...
Re:Chromium Has Merged JpegXL on Tuesday January 13, 2026 @05:17PM (#46609091)
Discord certainly supports it (on web and desktop client). I've been able to upload high resolution WebP images for at least a year now.
