Both of these projects are not about the cost or the code. No wonder they go laid off.
Re:Amazon to buy satellite firm Globalstar in $11.57B deal on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @11:05AM (#50274915)
Thank you for letting me know, I have not noticed, as you can see, I'm open to criticism and friendly. And pleasant to be around.
Re:Amazon to buy satellite firm Globalstar in $11.57B deal on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @10:45AM (#50274540)
It's OK to not agree, that's how we progress. Everybody can be wrong too,and we shouldn't be afraid to be vulnerable.

Now, how could a satellite service be useless? And what many people don't understand, is that if somebody that is using it (as thousands of people are) hears that, it might be hurtful. It comes down to calling somebody "dumb". And the statement doesn't invite anybody to come up with arguments. No, most people would walk away from a discussion. Avoid this person with his big ideas. This is how society is individualized and how we fail to understand each other.

I also believe that it comes from a good place, like actual "advice". I've been giving my little snarky comment to about 20 people. Most of them were open to it, changed their style a little and the workplace became some much more pleasant.

Those are very absolute statements. And mayeb you're not aware, but if you notice people pulling away from you in conversation or it's difficult for you to maintain longterm, deep, relationships, it might be partly because of the way you express yourself. And it probably comes from a good place, you might just want to warn people to not go through whatever bad experience you had. But it is a very one way type of communication. It doesn't allow anybody except those that agree. But those that agree won't agree on some other big statement and you'll still resent each other.

Just something to think about as you navigate the challenges of social interactions. The best to you.

Makes me wonder if moving away from discord back to IRC would be a fun move. But I think we'd miss mobile access and accounts on different devices maybe? Any thoughts?
Ditch Windows. Install Linux. With Claude, your headaches go away.

It's this a new model or a new ui?
Re:Dear Software Makers on Wednesday September 30, 2026 @07:38PM (#49915865)
Anybody else seeing ghosty black lines on hn after reading that dark page? Like a negative version of some sort, lingering in your vision?
Re:Opus 5.5 is good at explainer videos on Thursday September 24, 2026 @05:14PM (#49836808)
Like many of us, I've been hobbying away on some SaaS that wraps an LLM. But I often worry, isn't this just adding buttons to an LLM call? What's the real value here? Quick money grab and wait for copies? Or do my 20 years of saas and business development actually make my SaaS better then others?
Re:JetKVM Mini on Sunday September 13, 2026 @05:13AM (#49681769)
The original one is shaped weirdly and hard to use in my unordered stack of machines and wires. I like the new shape here better.
Re:Live map of public transport in Belgium on Monday September 07, 2026 @06:14AM (#49596424)
I just figured out that on Mallorca, the busses are shown like that on Google Maps. Which to me was mind blowing. I had never seen it, it's so convenient.

How does one distill? Just send a million request asking for information? Start with the letter A?

They still update that? I thought it's all bedrock now?
Re:What AI did to stackoverflow in a graph on Saturday July 18, 2026 @03:17PM (#48961282)
This made me browse through my StackOverflow history. Funny to see how I though I was such a skilled developer, though the questions I asked and the answers I gave 16 years ago... cringe.
Re:Announcing Box3D :: Box2D on Wednesday July 01, 2026 @11:38AM (#48748650)
Made look up some of my game stuff from back in the day, but the apps are not in the store (after 15 years, to be expected) oh well...
Re:Hetzner Price Adjustment (June 15th, 2026) on Monday June 15, 2026 @12:54PM (#48544007)
I was shopping for this past weekend. I found a 16core 128gb-ram(1!) unit for 110€/month with a competitor. Crazy deal. I suspected it to be a mistake, but after 24 hours it actually came online. Runs very smooth.
Re:Cooling in Space on Sunday June 14, 2026 @06:47AM (#48525998)
I think it's a vary valid option to launch swarms of datacenters into space. I think a few decades to a hundred years from now, it will be the norm. Until then, we can find plany of land to do it. Instead a launch, you just need a battery. Much cheaper. All the rest stays the same.
I tried implementing qwen through openrouter and deepinfra. Even without thinking, I had to wait 60s+ for the full result, where haiku or flash would be done in 5 or 6 seconds.
as a charging station network founder, I can confirm, the summer has never started off this welll.
Re:Ryanair dark UX patterns summer 2026 refresher on Friday June 12, 2026 @08:16AM (#48503170)
It's why they're cheap though. I fly around Europe for 30 euro's. If this is how that works, it works. And after hundred+ flights with them, believe me, I have had my share or RyanScam. I just play their game and laugh.
Re:C++: The Documentary on Friday June 05, 2026 @06:43AM (#48410591)
I love a free documentary about something that I'm passionate about. So many thanks.

However, I'm a my own kind of weird. I cannot watch a documentary that's made out of people saying short sentences. I get that it's made to 'have them tell the story', but I need a narrator to tell me what to think because I get distracted.

Still lots of love to the creators, of course.

So... did we just basically produce a lot of heat in a bunch of datacenters? Not a lot of value?
Re:Surface Laptop Ultra: Made for World Makers on Monday June 01, 2026 @03:52AM (#48353809)
I've had about 4 generations of surface devices. Never again. The frustration of that SP4 where every bodies screen would jitter and they would just stoiclly send me a replacement with the same problem. Until warranty expired.

Or every model after that just slowed down to a crawl after a year. Or the keyboard connection not working reliably.

No thank you very much.

I'm curious how hardware and power cost would stack up to subscription cost
Would love to know what it is and what it is doing that others are doing wrong. I don't touch dns for anything other then pointing a domain to a server.
Re:Don't Roll Your Own on Saturday May 23, 2026 @07:29PM (#48252650)
Except...?
As many as we can new idea's from and figure out how to do this more efficiently. It's ok to stick with vim, of course!
Re:Deno 2.8 on Friday May 22, 2026 @01:24PM (#48238793)
Interesting, I'm not aware of that many nodejs alternatives...
Very recognizable and hard to reason about! I did something similar, but while looking at the code, it looked so procedural, hardly abstract, no vision. How was I ever going to maintain this? I guess Ai will do it forever?
