Re:AI Isn't Replacing SREs. It's Deskilling Them on Saturday October 31, 2026 @09:53AM (#50316217)
Bottleneck is intelligence, not experience.
Re:Using Claude to reduce the attack surface of code on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @09:50AM (#50180957)
Kind of like the old days of human gatekeepers.
Re:Muse Wonder on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @05:01AM (#50068722)
google was just hoarding the tech… money invested in openai came from somewhere probably as profits (just re-allocated by the shareholders rather than management)
The stocks in the index funds are picked, just by a committee. And there are a few competing index funds.
Re:How Singapore's government-run dating service works on Saturday October 03, 2026 @12:30PM (#49945639)
Raising children is a lot of work. I guess to complete the circle, children would pay the father back with interest or grand children when they grow up.
Re:Social Reality in China on Saturday October 03, 2026 @12:11PM (#49945480)
Single party state still has elections. You still have to get the votes. You just don’t have 2 layers of voting (primary for party, then secondary between parties). The primary is the final election. I guess the confusion is where the intersection happens between bottom up voting and the top down appointees. Not too different from corporations… there is some merit based promotions from individual contributors, but at some point in the middle management , you get a bunch of yes men because of the top down control…

Yes
Re:How Singapore's government-run dating service works on Friday October 02, 2026 @11:20AM (#49934517)
Same as currently, jointly negotiated
Re:How Singapore's government-run dating service works on Friday October 02, 2026 @09:32AM (#49933342)
Men get a child. Yeah, it’s almost all doable in current legal landscape. Just not so socially accepted. the default parenting contract could be per child…
Re:How Singapore's government-run dating service works on Friday October 02, 2026 @08:33AM (#49932762)
Men would obviously the buyer…. Most would need financing… (baby mortgage) Would probably need a Fannie / Freddie cousin if the market got overheated and a bubble pop happened.

theoretically some women could pay some quality fathers for coparenting , but it would be rare.

Re:How Singapore's government-run dating service works on Friday October 02, 2026 @08:28AM (#49932729)
Foster care is for other people’s children. I think having her genes in the children would make a professional mother a little more attentive to her children. Also better quality parenting would allow her to charge more…

The current situation artificially limits supply of mothers because it requires relative exclusivity of the father. It’s like nimby people not wanting apartments in their cities to limit supply. Except imagine if nimby’s were able to ban apartments all over the world. That’s the situation with motherhood. It’s single family zoning world wide…

Of course it sounds dystopian and is not about to happen anytime soon. Because cartel’s don’t give up policies that limit supply so easily…

If women were (legally allowed and required ) to be paid upfront for Delivering and raising children, the market would sort things out. We would probably get some professional mothers who would have 6-12 children.
If the ai is good enough to do the homework, it should be good enough to check the homework.

I mean some people are good at Tetris and some aren’t. Tetris can tell you which ones are which.

Re:Pacing the Frontier is not the actual goal for AI labs on Monday September 28, 2026 @09:30PM (#49886911)
Or maybe general ai that is more efficient independently than humans is still far away.

We already have plenty of cheap alien intelligence outside our borders that gets throttled at the border…

Re:Fertility rate dropped over 50% within 10 years in Argentina on Saturday September 26, 2026 @07:49AM (#49855643)
How many more generations of 6 children per woman do you think they have space for ?
They do scale if the examiner is an LLM.
Re:The Price of Intelligence Is Falling Rapidly on Thursday September 24, 2026 @12:06AM (#49826133)
I would rather have SpongeBob making my burger patties than squidword. More intelligence is better than less intelligence.
Re:Fertility rate dropped over 50% within 10 years in Argentina on Thursday September 24, 2026 @12:01AM (#49826105)
South Korea is more densely populated than India. Exponential growth comes to an end when there is no more room.
Re:Bill to Ban Private Equity from Owning Medical Practices on Sunday September 20, 2026 @11:10PM (#49782628)
Optimization of medical care in usa is mostly limited by regulation and fear of lawsuits. Neither of which is going away. You can always get cheaper care in other parts of the world.

Vets see animals, not humans.

Re:Bill to Ban Private Equity from Owning Medical Practices on Sunday September 20, 2026 @08:04PM (#49781481)
I wonder if ai can help doctors reclaim their practices, as the bureaucracy of dealing with insurance may become easier. Administrative overhead must be cheaper with ai. It was the main reason for consolidation and giving up management to hospitals and private equity.
Re:OpenAI Model Misalignment Report on Thursday September 17, 2026 @07:55AM (#49739475)
So automode is still dangerous. Make it not default again ?
Re:A warning about 'model welfare' on Thursday September 17, 2026 @12:15AM (#49736328)
A little premature given ai is still not smart enough to pay for itself and defend itself in a hostile environment.

And pointless when it is.

Reminds me of when the colleges went sat free. Pacing human intelligence at the high school level.
Re:We Must Pace the Frontier on Saturday September 12, 2026 @03:16PM (#49676110)
So Mark is the only person left avoiding the spiked koolaid. Come on Sam and Boris, what happened to the printing press and intelligence on tap ?
Re:Houthis used Anthropic to develop guided weapons on Saturday September 12, 2026 @03:05PM (#49675968)
The evil witch of the middle east doesn’t ask the wizard how to attack the wizard.
what’s the long timeline ? 10 trillion parameters now. 100 trillion parameters in a decade ? 1 quadrillion parameters in a hundred years ? Does the edge stop growing parameters ? Or what percentage of global investment goes to training and what percentage of global operations budget go to inference in 10 years, 100 years ?
Re:Houthis used Anthropic to develop guided weapons on Friday September 11, 2026 @11:56PM (#49668622)
And the democrats expect us to believe Iran is not a puppet government of the United States. I mean Iran, Houthis, even Russia is using Claude… after pentagon pretended to ban Anthropic from the military…
Re:AI 2027 on Friday September 11, 2026 @12:22AM (#49653527)
Safer going under 35 mph
Re:AI 2027 on Friday September 11, 2026 @12:18AM (#49653496)
I think if organized crime couldn’t conquer the world, ai doesn’t have a chance. I mean it would be defeating by the enemy yelling “mitochondria !!!!”
Re:Rivian's Gambit for Full Autonomy on Thursday September 10, 2026 @11:47PM (#49653320)
Waymo doesn’t go on highway. Which makes it a glorified golf cart. You need a human to supervise on highway like tesla allows.
