there are no 2 identical deployed ERP systems.

It's just an umbrella term for "weak process glue code".

if that's what you call a "friend"...

I am such a dev (backend).

I'm working in a codebase of 200+ "microservices", separate repos, each deployed as multiple FaaS, CQRS-style. None of it my choice, everything precedes me, many repos I know nothing of. Little to no code re-use between them.

Any trace of "business logic" is so distributed in multiple repos, that I have no possible use of LLM codegen, unless I can somehow feed it ALL the codebase.

I've tried generating some tests, but they always miss the mark, as in the system under test is almost always the wrong one.

I guess LLM are cool for greenfield, but when the brownfield is really brown, there's no use for LLMs.

The problem is knowing the "when", or better yet choosing the "right" one. Don't ask me about these targets I have on my back.

Many times and in many orgs, the window to speak up opens too seldomly and it's barely cracked open...

I'm pretty sure this might be a hot take, but I believe we need some sort of a Tech Police.

We have Road Police, Financial Police, Mail Police, Work Safety Police, Military Police...

Great generalization of an entire country's sector workforce.

I'm sure you'd 100% approve of such a statement of your country when based on one anecdotal recount (even if it true).

it's not a recipe, but I found this sufficiently interesting, at least for grasping the conceptual differences.

"The hottest new programming language is English" - Karpathy

I call bullshit, mainly because any natural language is ambiguous at best, and incomplete at worst.

Re:Why Tracebit is written in C# on Saturday February 01, 2025 @06:27AM (#42897594)
I only know C#'s async/await, and know nothing about goroutines / virtual or green threads.

You seem knowledgeable on the matter, care to share some resources that might help me grok the differences?

we're a very short step away from a "hardware" database

You come from a weird place.

It's long, and has examples in C#, but this article by Jon Skeet should instill some healthy doubt in your convictions:

This is for .NET, but the issues described stand for any stack:

I'm the one above complaining for being "transparent".

You're right, I failed that game.

I'm fully aware I suck at playing the de-facto state of professionalism, or lack thereof, in the job market.

Fuck me for trying to be an adult trying to adult with other adults, I guess.

I was recently turned down on the first interview with an HR head. Motive: I said I can sometimes be perceived as frank in an argument, as an answer to the classic "tell me one of your shortcomings".

I'm not saying it can't be a valid reason. I guess I just don't get their values.

I'm convinced I would have been a pretty good match technically, but never got the chance to show it.

Italy, opening had max €50k budget.

I have 17 yoe and obviously it was not my first rodeo. Maybe I finally learned that sincerity and transparency is a dumbass move.

Re:It's Getting Harder to Die on Saturday June 29, 2024 @09:18PM (#40834485)
Thing is, it doesn't happen like flicking a switch, it's progressive and tricky to process as a caretaker.

I'm seeing this right now with a close friend and her 83yo mother.

It's seriously damaging to my friend, and no amount of my reasoning with her seems to help her process her mother's cognitive decay...

...and it leaves me defeated also, I don't have the tools to really be of true help.

Here parmigiano reggiano prices range from 16€/kg (12 months old, and on offer) to well above 30€/kg (24 months old and beyond).
