Re:In LLM era, can software startup survive?
on Monday November 02, 2026 @06:28AM (#50335486)
One a much larger time scale, I think that premise still holds.
Greybeards used to tell me how back in the 80s/90s "everyone" (in software) was developing & selling their custom solutions. And it was completely normal to buy your software, the OS, IDE, compilers, Browser, basically everything. But with the proliferation of free software/open source many software business models had to compete with viable free alternatives.
And with big tech doing price-dumping in many markets (who still buys a browser?).
So nowadays many software sub segments there exist very good solutions that are free, competing with those are super hard and only possible for very specialized niches.

Re:Quad9 (DNS Resolver) to Exit France
on Saturday October 24, 2026 @05:06AM (#50219434)
That's because the Swiss DNS blocking originated in an anti-unregulated-gambling law. Basically all unregulated gambling websites are blocked. There shouldn't be any other sites on that list.

Technically, if the rate of bug detection and correct bug fixes by AI is larger than the rate of newly introduced bugs by humans & AIs, then we'd asymptotically approach a bug free OS in the long run. But these are big ifs.

What's the $-value of some street cred/publicity vs. $-value of finding some optimization trick that reduces training/inference cost by millions compared to their competitors? Of course they're going to keep that IP to themselves.
Re:The Mathocalypse

By standard semantics, if you state that believing with certainty that the proof is incorrect is stupid, then you surely believe with certainty that it's correct.
Unless you want the negate the certainty part, but then the nudge to gambling is less coherent.

The underlying question is: has a human counted and classified those 140 issues? Or is that information the output of LLM?

That's why I had to enable the "pause updates for four weeks" setting on Windows. Otherwise every second update would break something somewhere and disrupt workflows regularly. With the one-month update delay you'd get the updates that fixed the previous update.
