My heat pump needs a security audit. It's still offline. Wonder if there any ready to use solution?
Re:Programming Languages Used for Music on Monday December 22, 2025 @10:08AM (#46354697)
Claude code is good at coding and music theory. IMHO, there is not need for a dedicated language.

BTW. I've played with LLM in sound design tasks recently. Vibe coded MCP server for Waldorf Blofeld gave me good results. Sorry, no demo.

Reminds me Borland IDE.
Re:Pragmatic Versioning – An Alternative to Semver on Tuesday December 05, 2023 @03:38AM (#38528349)
We use YEAR.SPRINT.PATCH scheme, for example 23.10.1. But this is an internal SaaS version.
Because open source projects are not products per se. If you use mostly a proprietary software, open source project can be perceived as "poor quality product".

"ease customizability" means no sane defaults. It means more work after the installation.
Do they have a chat?

Re:Ask HN: Do you use foreign keys in relational databases? on Tuesday September 06, 2022 @08:14AM (#32736061)
If you have any business app (OLTP) using FK is no brainer. I know devs whom fights for 99% code coverage and do not use any constraints in the database. Fixing bug in the code is easy. Fixing data inconsistency is not.
Re:Robertson vs. Torx screw drives (2021) on Monday July 04, 2022 @09:23AM (#31976748)
TORX are available in Poland. Every casto-like store have them in stock. Mostly decking and framing screws.

I've never seen Robertson screw in a Polish store.

Thanks!
It reminds me running the code in video address space on Atari.
Re:From macOS to FreeBSD on Friday February 18, 2022 @07:53AM (#30385117)
I'm using on personal computer since '96. Professionally since 2000. I had a "Windows only break" for few months.
Youtube gives me a better search results. Esp. for non-IT related searches.
"And black creators often did not get the same chance at success that their mainstream counterparts did, leading to some black creators filing lawsuits against YouTube. Despite YouTube's good intentions, systemic biases in how non-black users treated black creators, as well as the economic realities of Black people only representing 10% of the U.S. audience, have led to YouTube never doing quite enough to address this."

Could you tell more about it? Not American here.

* Simplyfied subset of UML (sequence, state ...) - on whiteboard (pre covid), now google docs. These diagrams do not last long. We're using them for discussion and some documentation. * ERD using our tool (we eat our own dog food). This one is crucial. Code and migration scripts are generated from it.
Thanks.

"No. Self-identification is the preferred method of identifying the race and ethnic information necessary for the EEO-1 report. Employers are required to offer employees the opportunity to use self-identification to complete the EEO-1 report. If an employee declines to self-identify, employment records or observer observation may be used."

This will illegal in Europe.

Second question is: Do HR departments record employee race?

Re:What ORMs Have Taught Me: Just Learn SQL (2014) on Wednesday October 21, 2020 @03:34AM (#24845580)
You may create view with complex query. Views are ORM friendly to use, and are human friendly to edit.
Irony. You can publish a book without a publisher right now. But you have to rely on publisher will if you want to publish an app.
Re:ORMs Are Backwards on Wednesday September 04, 2019 @03:30AM (#20874815)
> But then again: Is it even a good idea to access the same database from two codebases at all?

It's an integration pattern. It works in some contexts.

Re:ORMs Are Backwards on Wednesday September 04, 2019 @03:28AM (#20874806)
There is other way. ORM nor SQL is a source of truth. Database design (physical diagram) is the source of truth. ORM code and SQL migrations are generated from the design.

Why not replace "vs" with "and"?

Re:PgModeler – PostgreSQL Database Modeler on Monday August 06, 2018 @04:26AM (#17695964)
If you're looking for db modeling tool try vertabelo.com (work here)

I use psql console for other tasks (db management/data access).
