You honestly think that refined sugars are more problematic than artificial sweeteners?

Is the money in your bank account a real store of value?

Do you not notice what’s been happening to it at an accelerated pace over the last 30 years?

I’m not arguing for bitcoin either way. But I implore you to take a hard look at your definition of real value in a system with inherent inflation that forces you to speculate in order to preserve any “real value.”

And smoking light cigarettes are probably healthier for you too…
This is exactly the event that I’ve been preparing for. I figured out long ago that it’s not a matter of if, but when, Apple fully embraces the surveillance economy. This seems to be a strong step in that direction. As dependant as I’ve been on the Apple ecosystem, I’ve been actively adopting open source solutions in place of the Apple incumbents so that when I have to fully pull the plug, I can at least soften the blow.

In place of Mail: Tutanota In place of iMessage: Signal And so on…

About 1800 people died today from another disease we can stop…

But it’s all fine because obesity is as American as apple pie.

Sounds a lot like the obesity epidemic to me. One that kills 1,794 people in the United States DAILY, year… over… fucking… year. Also completely preventable.

And before you call BS here’s the data: https://www.cdc.gov/heartdisease/facts.htm

Seems odd that someone would weigh in with such an aggressive counterpoint in defence of Google on their own volition… I’m always suspect of comments like these coming from said company’s PR team.

I mean really, “Further I think products like this are actually unethical”? Did you really just jump to the defence of a near 2 trillion dollar company whose business model overtly threatens some of our most fundamental human rights?

Am I the only one who feels like Windows 11, at its core, is just one giant telemetry upgrade with a shinier UI?

Although I agree that survivorship bias is a cheaply constructed argument, it’s hard to know how good this fund really is when it’s only been in operation during the greatest bull run of our lifetime.

I’d imagine liquidity issues are the least of their concerns right now. At least, they would be to me.

The narrative seems to fit a little too comfortably...

I would generally agree. Don’t understand why your comment is getting downvoted either...

This is farcical. I actually thought this was a title from an article off The Onion at first.

Re:How to say no, for the people pleaser who always says yes on Wednesday September 23, 2020 @11:59AM (#24568532)
I think the biggest thing for me, which wasn’t covered in this article, was in understanding that even by saying yes all the time you are NOT guaranteed to please or make the other party happy.

This is important to understand because, speaking for myself, my emotional motivation to please people stems from my primary desire to avoid emotional tension.

In understanding that even by sacrificing my own desire I’m in no way guaranteeing that outcome was a game changer for me. Furthermore, avoiding these negative emotions can make things worse or generate more of the emotion I was trying to avoid, in the long run.

You can’t call and raise. You can only either call or raise. ... Sorry for being overly pedantic but as a poker player that one kinda bothers me :)

I think that sounds about right. Short of a complete black swan it's bound to be one or a combination of the factors you mentioned.

The problem is tech companies aren't immutable to the laws of finance and human folly. Not every EV truck startup is going to become the next Tesla... yet people behave as though this is the case.

In complete accord with your sentiment, or what it really should be called: reality.

The problem is that everyone has become complicit in this euphoria because no one wants to stop the party when everyone's making money.

Notwithstanding, parties eventually end and bubbles do pop. The next question is: when?

It’s not about conspiracy theories and tin foil hats. It’s about drawing lines of separations between church and state, government and corporations.

The fact that so many people like yourself accept these moral failings as the new normal is honestly mind blowing.

It’s like we’ve completely forgotten the iniquity of a conflict of interest...
