It means remaining silent when you are not under arrest or being detained.
Re:I spent 22 years in prison for a crime I didn’t commit on Thursday December 05, 2019 @09:23AM (#21712443)
The US Supreme Court has said that you must invoke your right to remain silent. It doesn't seem constitutional, but it is currently the law. (Salinas v. Texas and People v. Tom)

You might be the one drinking the kool-aid if you think either one of them will get a fair trial.

Agreed. Also, how about the various taxes you encounter as an adult (income, property, ect...)

One of their early employees did an "Ask Me Anything" on Reddit about 5 years ago. It is pretty interesting. https://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/1vjj51/i_am_one_of_th...
Re:Amtrak Could Turn a Profit for the First Time on Sunday November 17, 2019 @11:25PM (#21561869)
Air travel contributes greatly to climate change. When we are talking about High-speed rail in the US, no one is really talking about cross country trips like Chicago to LA. They are talking about regional trips like LA to SF or DC to NYC. Ideas like maglev or even the hyperloop are what I consider to be "looking up"
Re:Amtrak Could Turn a Profit for the First Time on Sunday November 17, 2019 @08:30PM (#21561255)
That's why the push for true high speed rail in the US is so important. Amtrak would need a massive budget increase to make it happen.

Doubtful for an armed robbery
Thank you!
"The British Parliament's Digital, Culture, Media, and Sport Committee published hundreds of pages in a report in December; they were seized from Six4Three's founder, Ted Kramer, when he visited the UK."

Can anyone explain how/why the documents were seized?

Re:Backcountry.com sues anyone who uses its namesake on Tuesday November 05, 2019 @09:34AM (#21452679)
You can register a trademark for a generic term if it is tied to a very specific category. It is what allows "Apple" to be trademarked when related to computers. The problem here is that "Backcountry" is a term that is too closely tied to what they are actually selling. It would be like allowing a phone company to trademark the term "Cell"
Re:Match.com Used Fake Ads to Swindle Users, F.T.C. Says on Thursday September 26, 2019 @12:32AM (#21078195)
You could do it without money. You could have both users "check in" at the location of the date. If a user is continually bailing on dates, the app could show them less.
Re:United States Files Civil Lawsuit Against Edward Snowden on Tuesday September 17, 2019 @05:51PM (#21000457)
His book came out today.
I think you could still use that as evidence if you wanted to take it to ICANN's UDRP.
Can you elaborate on the SMS sending?
Is that not extortion?
Re:Facebook Dating on Thursday September 05, 2019 @11:20AM (#20887598)
They don't. They should have called this Instagram Dating, but Zuck doesn't want to admit that the Facebook brand is no longer "cool"
Re:WTF – A personal information dashboard for your terminal on Wednesday August 28, 2019 @08:47AM (#20819220)
Google removed that functionality because of a settlement with Getty.
"Next Step" is a common phrase. Multiple companies currently have a live trademark for "NextStep."
Re:The world’s most-surveilled cities on Monday August 19, 2019 @09:55AM (#20737751)
It's the unwritten law of the south side. If you are even seen to be talking to the police, you are assumed to be a 'snitch.'
Re:US Gen Z and the iMessage Lock-In on Friday August 16, 2019 @01:06PM (#20717157)
It's very much by design.

They are locking their Android friends out of group messages, which are very popular among that age group.
Re:Ask HN: What have the past 12 months taught you? on Friday July 19, 2019 @05:54PM (#20482771)
Never take your health for granted. Be grateful for every day that you have.
The US is claiming that he illegally accessed a government system and that is why they have jurisdiction. Whether or not he actually did that is questionable.
