I believe the question being raised is the opposite: that this violation is bad, and we cannot neglect the other violations already being done remotely by these other agencies.
Re:Poll: How do you pronounce “tuple”? on Thursday August 16, 2018 @06:03PM (#17778790)
I've heard "quintuple" both ways so after reading your comment, I still don't know how you specifically pronounce "tuple" :P
Re:Google has plans to deprecate cookies over http on Wednesday August 15, 2018 @12:12PM (#17767167)
I think so as well. The intent of this write-up is explicitly to advocate for a practice to "Expire cookies early". "Depreciate" might not be the perfect word, but "deprecate" is outright misleading.
Re:The simplicity of dropping Google in 2018 on Wednesday August 01, 2018 @04:13PM (#17666514)
Every time I see some article claiming that dropping Google is easy, I wonder about this!

This article's author says he uses FastMail's calendar funcitonality, but I use ProtonMail; plus I'd like for my calendar provider to be separate from my email provider.

*edited because I wrote DuckDuckGo instead of ProtonMail whoops

Re:Why we transitioned from Medium back to our own blog on Wednesday January 24, 2018 @01:33PM (#16225056)
My focus wanders quite a bit when doing anything in general, so I highlight text when reading webpages to help anchor my attention and forcefully keep track of where I am.

Otherwise, my eyes tend to jump around the page in a horribly ineffective attempt to speed-read and I miss a lot of details.

Curses! Shame on me for commenting before thoroughly reading the article.

People in the comments are making references to prank videos and film techniques, but this type of research study has also been conducted multiples times in the last few years by institutions such as Stanford [1], UC San Diego [2], Virginia Tech [3], and more.

Re:Messenger.com Now 50% Converted to Reason on Saturday September 09, 2017 @10:00PM (#15210127)
It's great that Messenger is being worked on. I wish they'd also work on improving the UI instead of spending time tacking on half-baked features, but that's probably a discussion for another time and place.

I have noticed fairly recently that searching chat histories is much faster and more reliable than it used to be, so that's a plus.

Seeing the image where DL302 flies between the outer band and the body of the storm——that's pretty badass.
Re:Mathematics of Machine Learning (2016) on Friday September 01, 2017 @07:52PM (#15153231)
You're right; perhaps my envy got the best of me.
Re:Mathematics of Machine Learning (2016) on Friday September 01, 2017 @07:01PM (#15152976)
Good God that pie chart.

edit: Should've probably elaborated. Not only is a pie chart usually ineffective at conveying information, but these percentages are totally arbitrary. There's not really a specific explanation for why linear algebra is weighted more than multivariate calculus and algorithms & complexity combined, not to mention the fact that linear algebra and multivariate calculus in machine learning overlap to a large degree, and they both feed into algorithms & complexity as well.

And then on top of that, the 3D and shading seem totally unnecessary, but that's just me.

I'm a novice when it comes to neural network models, but would I be correct in interpreting this as a convolutional network architecture with multiple stacked encoders and decoders?

Just to play devil's advocate, I wonder if it would be possible to sustain WaPo from Amazon's revenue stream, and what impacts that could have on ostensible and de facto journalistic integrity.
Is there a source for this? It looks like the document is hosted via the FCC's electronic comment filing system API, but I can't find a news source for this at all.
