It's strange to believe that Twitter/X has fallen. Virtually every major character in software, AI and tech is active on X. The people who are actually building the tools that we discuss everyday post on X.

LinkedIn is weeks/months behind topics that originate from X. It suggests you might be living in a bubble if you believe X has fallen.

Re:I Ditched Docker for Podman (and You Should Too) on Friday September 05, 2025 @10:44AM (#45139194)
OP fails to understand that in practice people use Docker Desktop on their laptop and deploy to a container platform or Kubernetes cluster that uses ContainerD. So all of these so-called issues are moot. Further, Docker Inc (and the people behind Docker CLI, Compose etc), have way better UX taste and care for DX than their competitors which matters a lot in local development.

> Mexico, Greenland, Canada

Nice try. We are not at war with these countries and not even close to it either. Trump is the most non-interventionist president of the last few decades. This is an empirical and historical fact.

> That doesn't make it align with classical liberal principles - especially when they discard the rule of law and do it as a dictator. Cutting government is an act of Congress, not the executive.

Obama in Executive Order 13576: "By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, and in order to cut waste, streamline Government operations, and reinforce the performance and management reform gains my Administration has achieved, it is hereby ordered as follows..."

> He is forcing them to abandon DEI and ESG;

Yes which is great - this is an example of reducing the size and scope of government. This amounted to less rules, smaller gov and undoing gov overreach. Again this is measurable and empirical action that proves a reduction in government power.

> extremes never before seen (freedom of speech)

There is a literally an EO on preventing online censorship. I'm not sure if you were in a Coma during Covid, but social media companies were censoring voices that have now shown to be entirely true.

Re:How Each Pillar of the First Amendment Is Under Attack on Monday March 31, 2025 @12:55AM (#43531217)
I arrive at these conclusions the same way many of my classically liberal friends and fellow libertarians who support Trump do — by evaluating his actions through the lens of limited government, individual liberty, and fiscal restraint:

• DOGE and Fiscal Discipline: The goal of cutting $1 trillion from the federal budget, a major libertarian priority.

• Freedom of Speech: Consistently opposes online censorship. Appointed FCC commissioners like Ajit Pai and Brendan Carr, both strong defenders of free expression. Signed executive orders aimed at ending federal involvement in censorship.

• Deregulation: Slashed hundreds of federal regulations across multiple sectors, reducing government interference in markets and individual enterprise.

• Judicial Restraint: Appointed constitutionalist judges committed to limiting federal overreach and upholding individual rights.

• Non-Interventionist Foreign Policy: Opposed endless wars, pushed to bring troops home, and resisted entangling the U.S. in new conflicts.

• Ross Ulbricht: Publicly pledged to commute the sentence of the Silk Road founder, a major symbolic and substantive gesture for civil liberties and criminal justice reform.

How does one call themselves a classical liberal and not support this?

Instead of piecing together a well reasoned retort that refutes my arguments, you're calling me "delusional". Please learn how to disagree.

Are you new to political theory? No president since Reagan has done more to advance Enlightenment-era values than Donald Trump. As a lifelong classical liberal and card-carrying Libertarian, I vote exclusively based on Enlightenment principles — individual liberty, limited government, and free expression. For the first time in decades, I feel like I’m living in a political moment that actually reflects those ideals.
Re:How Each Pillar of the First Amendment Is Under Attack on Sunday March 30, 2025 @11:19PM (#43530537)
This is an unserious juvenile political rant and nothing more. Obama literally weaponized the Espionage Act against journalists and whistleblowers, surveilled reporters, and used the IRS to target conservative nonprofits. Biden’s White House pressured social media platforms to censor dissenting views on COVID and elections — actions courts have called unconstitutional. Both administrations limited press access, avoided town halls, and used regulatory power to chill speech they didn’t like. Where was Krebs' outcry during that?

Trump Derangement Syndrome takes another victim.

Where is the unique value add? It's like the only differentiation is that they ran sed 's/django/plain/g' across the repo.
This is an example of optimizing something that shouldn't exist. They can simplify all of this by adding Cloudflare tunnel or Wireguard to proxy traffic from the outside world to a k8s Service running in the cluster.
If you're upset about this, ask yourself why you didn't care when the same power was exerted during Democratic presidencies. High chance you are under the influence of severe TDS.
Many of us here voted for exactly this and we are very happy to see all of these changes.
If 18F was so great then why did nothing change and the needle not move significantly?

Re:Ask HN: Why Did Medium.com “Fail"? on Friday February 10, 2023 @07:55PM (#34748286)
- Sunk cost fallacy everywhere you look. - An engineering culture of reinventing the wheel and maze of internal tools that only a select few understand. - No grass roots innovation - all ideas come from founders of recently acquired companies. - Highly politicized culture with rampant wokeness paralyzing decisions at every level. - Refusal to acknowledge Substack exists. - Too many non-builders and non-engineers running the company. - Lots and lots of misallocated talent.
Re:Ask HN: How do you deal with rude interviewers? on Wednesday May 11, 2022 @01:41PM (#31343311)
- End the interview early and call them out on being rude.

- Drag their company they work for on Blind and Glassdoor.

This is the best thing you can do not just for yourself, but for other engineers as well.

This is incoherent rambling.
Re:We Don’t Use Docker on Tuesday March 16, 2021 @01:11AM (#26473258)
The author is comparing a programming language to a container runtime. I don't think he/she understands the big picture of what problems Docker actually solves.
It doesn't matter what skills he has if he is morally bankrupt.

Zuckerberg has been very principled on free speech and Facebook and society as a whole is better for it. I hope this FB employee is replaced with someone more grounded on liberal ideals of free speech, tolerance and openness.

Spending hours updating your Notion or Confluence is busy-work and will be incomplete and eventually become stale anyway.

Try speaking to people in real life. It's not that hard.

Very good point.
Re:Scaling React Server Side Rendering on Monday December 30, 2019 @04:50PM (#21917005)
The Table of Contents should be first, then the content. I clicked Introduction expecting to link to something new, but it took me backwards.
Blacklisting is only half the problem. Trying to emulate the same UX of regular sessions (staying logged-in etc) is the bigger pain point.
