Re:Apple/macOS silently removed from official Unix registry on Saturday October 10, 2026 @09:02AM (#50032526)
SFU 1.0 and 2.0 relied on the MKS Toolkit by MKS/PTC, and SFU 3.0 later adopted the Interix (OpenNT) subsystem, which Microsoft acquired from Softway Systems in 1999.

The original POSIX Subsystem (psxss.exe) was Cutler's team who implemented a minimal POSIX.1 subsystem server alongside Win32 and OS/2. This was done primarily to satisfy US Federal Government procurement requirements (FIPS 151-2).

Re:The Future of Mathematics on Monday October 05, 2026 @08:15PM (#49972537)
The irony is his words just became AI training data to immortalize becoming useful through the point you just made, which is an asterisk on his name.

How do you handle the 'people often learn through repetition' problem?
Hopefully long while is under 24 hours like this plague is.
Also ask how much is this failed route procedures because organisms or viri of this variety won't continue without human sustainment which is prone to human failures...
Re:Car is a smartphone on wheels. Here's who's listening on Sunday October 04, 2026 @01:02PM (#49955653)
My car still uses 3G, so not much listening to it anymore.. although oddly enough, when I drive into the dealership, they automatically download vehicle statuses.
Re:Why don't more developers "use the platform"? on Sunday October 04, 2026 @11:50AM (#49954952)
Pathways is an urban open problem that companies like GoodMaps are trying to solve, although in a convoluted way (more sensors = more accuracy, but walled-garden is meh).

Do you think someone, given enough work, could vibe code another Wave product but better? Where is the desire to do that?

Re:GPT-6 Astra Solves a WWI German Radio Cipher on Saturday September 19, 2026 @12:43PM (#49768027)

It takes a brave person to be selfless. The golden rule is how.
Can't flee if your island is encircled and shooting down airplanes. China's military drills are executing exactly this.
Re:The entire city of San Francisco as a video game on Monday August 24, 2026 @07:34PM (#49427277)
Have you thought of going to the SF DBI to get the indoor blueprints and digitizing them for even more experience? I wonder how good GPT Sol would do at scraping photos to apply to the blueprints one of some streaming geojson+bitmap or something.
Is persistence the opposite side of attention (all you need)?
Re:Does AI stop children from learning? on Saturday August 22, 2026 @10:15AM (#49399968)
What if learners used teacher AIs such that the AIs would keep track (and submit to class teacher) of the scoring for different "mini exams" it put the learner through, so in effect better preparing for exams.
This is a good idea. I'm making a complicated app and Codex is stuck at simplifying it, so I'll give Claude a go at it.
Aren't AI companies all about the rare book auctions now?
