It’s not 1943. They know they hit.

Read your comment. Read the parent.

Yeah, we used to kill kids. Personally I think we shouldn’t have.

You're claiming that Trump is pro-immigration?
Re:Starship Flight 7 on Thursday January 16, 2025 @11:57PM (#42734247)
To be clear, you’re claiming that this was in fact behind them?
So the data wasn’t shared? These companies do not have USPS PII?

I think it's important to be clear that this isn't some small startup. Trello is Atlassian
Re:Scrabble rule change allows use of 'OK' on Thursday May 02, 2019 @08:48PM (#19814477)
I mean I'd love to hear the story as well, but clearly for different reasons.
Re:Ditching the MacBook Pro for a MacBook Air on Thursday November 22, 2018 @01:34PM (#18511651)
Well I'm using the one I've had for five years. Our anecdata seems to be conflicting.

I'm not sure you understand how the law works

It might not be hard for them to do it, but how is the end user meant to know to ask if they do?
Someone from Facebook explained what happened though: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=10386811
I used this at work today. Someone had asked what our webapp's sysreqs were. I said that network connection was very unlikely to be a problem, but it really struggled when set to GPRS. Now, I think it's unlikely that anybody would be using it on that, but it's still good to know that it's an issue.
Re:Svpply to retire on August 31st on Tuesday June 24, 2014 @06:17PM (#7941020)
How many years? How many internet services do you use that have run for 2 + "a few more" years?

They were acquired nearly two years ago. http://ourincrediblejourney.tumblr.com/post/89180616013/what... says that the site is explicitly for acquihires. If this was an acquihire then they royally screwed it up.

1) The current title _is_ the title of the linked to document

2) Why didn't the old one have 'rules' in it? Removing it looks like editorializing.

Re:HipChat is now free for unlimited users on Tuesday May 27, 2014 @06:03PM (#7807172)
Team communication: Teams need to interact in a variety of different ways: public groups/private groups, fixed groups/ad-hoc groups, groups/1-2-1. HipChat supports a variety of different ways of interacting, and does so in a way that's easy to use. People nowadays use a variety of different devices (and classes of device). HipChat has a range of native clients, plus a web based one, and so can be used on most of the devices that people want to use it on. (We use Slack, but I've tried and liked HipChat too)
Re:So You Want to Write Your Own CSV code on Sunday May 25, 2014 @03:08PM (#7797214)
I've never really got my head round RFCs, but 4180 is only informational, not a standard. I have used exactly your argument before though, and will again. Have also been on the other side and needed to convert horribly inconsistent data to fit it.
Re:Build Tools – Make, no more on Monday April 21, 2014 @09:41PM (#7625264)
I know you're just being glib, but here are some answers: * build doesn't mean compile * you can compile your build process and then use that to actually run your build * the benefits of typed languages go beyond catching errors at compile time
Re:Avow-CI Is No More on Monday April 14, 2014 @07:51PM (#7589580)
I know what you mean, but this isn't quite the same as the Home Depot version. Do you really think he didn't bring any of the paid for thought about CI to the open source version?
There's no chance of this actually happening, but I definitely agree.
This article is nonsensical. Using a study that says that 24 hours without sleep is bad to say that only getting 7 hours of sleep is bad? Please... The Jeff Archibald post that's linked to is actually good. Yes, all these amazing people did work really long hours, but (for the most part) they didn't brag about it, and you can bet that they were looking very carefully at how they spent their time.
It looks like you got downvoted a bit for saying this, sorry. You're totally right. If enough people /can/ see it that it can get to the front page then fair enough. I was feeling a little more cynical earlier, assuming that the voters hadn't read it.
Totally agree on the content stealing, but the fact that an article most people can't read got so far up the front page is also worrying.
Re:JDK 8 Release Notes on Tuesday March 18, 2014 @04:49PM (#7424876)
I'm glad you added that last line, because that's basically the whole story. Java is /very/ backwards compatible, and it's got round the...errr...quirks of the early versions by having a massive ecosystem of alternative implementations. Some of these (like Joda-Time) are good enough to get widely accepted as the 'correct' implementation. I don't think anyone will argue when you say that that throws up some barriers to entry, but they're not massive barriers, the standard library does still work. Not having to rewrite your code every six months is much more important.

CUT TO: A glider, motionless on the ground, trying to go somewhere.

Stepping back to a less sarcastic point, your metaphor is useful. I don't really understand why Medium is called Medium, but it doesn't really matter, because I have a degree of trust in where it came from.
