Re:More product, fewer product managers on Sunday December 17, 2023 @01:55PM (#38675297)
I've worked with dozens and dozens of PMs over the years and almost zero of them do this. Most of this is always done by product designers.
I imagine it has a lot to do with oil company lobbying.
Re:The UN Risks Normalizing Internet Censorship on Sunday October 15, 2023 @05:42PM (#37893647)
Considering the decades of wars and regime change operations and sanctions around the world, So you have a good reason why the US shouldn't be removed? There shouldn't be a Security Council to begin with, imo
One of the issues I've noticed. I can say from first hand experience that many wealthy people and VC's use drugs fairly frequently. I'm sure most of these arrests involve poor people though. You never hear about the wealthy folks being busted for drugs.

Here's a study done from 1990 to 2010. It shows a statistically significant increase in cancer.

And yet it's still not enough for nearly every single person who made it to that point
Re:Missing girl found using fingerprints on ransom note on Tuesday October 03, 2023 @10:04AM (#37752122)
If you're taken into jail, whether you're charged with anything or not and whether you're convicted of anything or not, they keep your fingerprints.

I lived near 880 in Oakland and always had massive amounts of this super fine sticky dust. They call that 880 corridor cancer corridor. My friends who lived next door who I was renting from, their son got leukemia and they think that had something to do with it.
Re:China Bans iPhone Use for Government Officials at Work on Wednesday September 20, 2023 @03:41PM (#37589038)
Strongly disagree. It's Israeli, but minor difference. The US has PRISM and newer operations that are just as if not more advanced. Can you show anything China has done. That's remotely close to what the US has done in Vietnam, Korea, Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Libya, Somalia, Indonesia, Panama, Grenada, Philippines, Japan, Yugoslavia, Laos, Cambodia, Guatemala, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, and the thousands of regime change operations the US has conducted? The US also incarcerates more people than any other country in the history of the world. We also have more murders by police than nearly any other country and far more than China. I can go on.
It's all provable beyond doubt if you'd like to see.
I usually process a bunch of vegetables in a Vitamix because I think it's better to have it with the fiber. Would this be less of a good thing than just a straight juice? I've heard the juice loan isn't great without the fiber, but I don't know.
Things like this would be much easier to accomplish if tech workers unionized. We don't necessarily need it for compensation, although many could benefit, but having a say in what we build is incredibly important.
Re:The Nine Most Important Types of Pizza in America on Saturday September 09, 2023 @10:57PM (#37452498)
We had the same kinda thing in central Ohio. It's basically the same as Marion's and others around Cinci, but the Chicago tavern style is much thinner and more cracker like. If you're ever in Chicago, my favorite is a place called My Pi in Bucktown. It's my favorite pizza of all time. I visited my hometown for the first time in about 12 years right after that and got a piece of my favorite place. It's decently thicker and more chewy.
And in this case, they always seem to get more wealthy and come out ahead no matter what.
Re:Robots Are Already Killing People on Wednesday September 06, 2023 @03:40PM (#37410163)
I used to be a pipe welder and that's exactly the reason I quit. Toxic fumes, grinding dust. We could make it safer but it slightly lowers profit margins.
Re:China Bans iPhone Use for Government Officials at Work on Wednesday September 06, 2023 @03:37PM (#37410099)
They hack iPhones without Apple knowing? I really don't think that's possible.
Re:China Bans iPhone Use for Government Officials at Work on Wednesday September 06, 2023 @03:36PM (#37410087)
Opinions like this are largely from new cold war propaganda, but also projection. The US spys on everyone everywhere. PRISM for example. Pegasus being another.
Re:“Why Socialism?” By Albert Einstein, 1949 on Wednesday September 06, 2023 @03:31PM (#37410017)
The US has started more wars than any other country in modern history. Largely to stop socialism. The goal of Socialism is to fulfill the will of the people and benefit the working class. Socialist countries are anti-imperialist, anti-colonialist, and are supposed to be more in favor of cooperation over global dominance. Ex: The US
Capitalism in a nutshell. It will always do this. It can't be reformed. Aside from the fact that we will eventually run out of resources to exploit. Infinite growth is just not possible.
Re:NYC Lost 100K Homes in Apartment-to-House Conversions on Thursday August 24, 2023 @10:49PM (#37257401)
Of all the cities that have been rapidly expanding housing, the zero of them have become more affordable. I used to think market rate housing would bring down prices but it has proven to not. What we need are affordable housing units, price caps, rent as percentage of income, rent control, and things along those lines. Singapore and Vienna have done a good job but 70% of all housing in Vienna is government owned and 80% of all housing in Singapore was built by the government.
Almost 10% of children in the US are food insecure, 60% of Americans can't afford a $1,000 emergency, and 40% can't afford a $400 emergency. We also have a homeless population of 500,000 and rapidly growing. Do you happen to live in a place that's considered to be a bubble?
Walgreens made $32 billion in profit last year and they announced all of these store closings about 4 years ago. They're looking to change business models, but it's easier to blame store closures on shoplifting to save face for leaving communities. They have acknowledged this in city council hearings.
Ban PFAS and single use plastics. Problem solved.
Re:What Happens to All the Stuff We Return? on Wednesday August 16, 2023 @01:10PM (#37150160)
It's like the person in a long ice cream line who needs to ask for a dozen samples one after the other, but this then makes the ice cream store stop giving samples entirely.
This is just an anti-Russia rant with no historical substance. Can you tell us the last time the news in the US spoke critically of a foreign war at the time?
"having American campaign/advertising." He literally ordered tanks to shell the Parliament building because they didn't vote the way he wanted them to. The way that US told him they should.
We did. Yeltsin was basically a US puppet, hence the shelling of the Duma. Gorbechav started down the road to collapse with help from the West.
Who makes that list? And when was the last time someone using controversial anti -government free speech in the US made a difference?
Only if you ignore the number of prominent people killed by the US government to keep them quiet. We know from court cases and declassified documents: Fred Hampton, MLK, Malcolm X, Gary Webb, Frank Olson, Collateral Murder (Chelsea Manning leak), Paul Guihard, Walter Reuther, Walter Liggett, Danny Casolaro, Mark Lombardi, and on and on. Most journalists you don't need to kill. You just ruin their careers like the NYT did to Chris Hedges when he criticized the Iraq war.
Yeah, the article is ridiculous. In the past 15 years I've never seen it this bad for me or anyone else I know.
