News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

muckrakerz

Except they don't. See above.
That isn't what he is claiming though. He's claiming that they do this without the users consent. If I want a page re-skinned in purple to hell with what the content provider wants. It is also reasonable, as Eich pointed out, to act as a mediator for unrequested donations. Which is what Brave does.

Would it be nice to reject these donations? Sure. But we don't demand that with any other transmission service. If Eich and the user concede to the terms and if you accept the money, what is the problem moral or otherwise?

Why would they have to? The user has opted in. From your link: "Starting today, users of Brave’s latest release of the desktop browser for macOS, Windows, and Linux can choose to view privacy-preserving Brave Ads by opting into Brave Rewards" [emphasis mine]

Stop spreading FUD.

The link provided does not address your claims. Full stop.
Yes. I want a citation for this. As far as I'm aware this is completely untrue.
Why do you state that? Some of the largest advances in our society have come from what would be seen as toxic or hostile engagements.

Einstein views were conflicted. He was very pro-nationalist where it was a Jewish concern. He felt this was forced, but that doesn't change his position.

You are missing the point. He's explicitly saying those _States_ aren't _Nations_. Hence the term "Nation-State" where a state is coterminous with a nation.
Re:Why is Stack Overflow trying to start audio? on Wednesday June 26, 2019 @07:04PM (#20290191)
No. We got content without this in the past, and we can do this in the future. And I will note THEY admit this is bad. Stop trying to defend the indefensible.
Brave is doing some of the best anti-Corporatist work in the community right now.
Re:Facebook reveals its cryptocurrency Libra on Tuesday June 18, 2019 @04:16PM (#20217912)
Why in God's name if we can't trust FB with privacy of our kids photos should we trust them to handle our finances? This deserves all of the mockery that it will receive.
Re:YouTube's Recommendation Algorithm Has a Dark Side on Tuesday June 04, 2019 @04:41PM (#20099016)
This is journalism worrying over people being able to watch what they want to. Notice that the things it is worried about you watching are not things that a left-leaning journalist would would find comforting.
These aren't offers. These are letters of inquiry. They tend to be automated and based on key words. So you have key words that generated interest.
FB has largely colluded with major media outlets in determining who would be "real" news. It has given the stamp of approval to most large media corporations.

Which is nonsense, I don't want it screening things. I want my family pictures and my friends thoughts and I don't care where they come from.

This is absolutely wrong. Fines scale with revenue because they are supposed to deter behavior. If I get fined $1000 the change in my behavior is different from that of a minimum wage earner and a multibillion dollar company.

FB has egregiously harmed consumers and has engaged in behavior that is criminal. In no way should they be left off the hook.

Re:Lyft Announces Q1 Earnings on Tuesday May 07, 2019 @07:05PM (#19854263)
The net loss that they are running against revenue is staggering. It is also telling that they bury that in the text and don't move it to the summary infographic. What does a profitable Lyft/Uber look like? We haven't seen it yet.

This also proves a bit of the lie that the drivers are getting screwed out of earnings. The company as a whole isn't profitable and those drivers should be carefully considering their future when, not if, the market losses patience over these losses.

Once again the former eastern block is implementing smart reforms that are pro-market and anti-globalist.
And our low expectations are part of the problem. We assume now that large corporations should be able to get away with behavior that would send anyone else to jail.
Using your radio has been shown to be just as distracting or more distracting yet we allow that. Their is no data presented in the article that shows any even attempted casualty. For example, they note that usage of devices is up and yet fatalities are down: https://www.nhtsa.gov/press-releases/us-dot-announces-2017-r...

And lest anyone claim this is due to safety items like advanced airbags, that same article shows _pedestrian_ fatalities are also down.

Now this could be for a host of factors. But the article isn't anything other than a scare fest and a reminder that anyone from FB talking about potential privacy issues should be shamed into silence.

If this is true then why go through the Kabuki theater of having a corporation at all. Zuckerberg is the central decision maker and there is no partial ownership in the company. Public corporations in theory are supposed to be owned by a wide array of investors. The fact is FaceBook skirts every regulation in existence. I'm pro Market in general but I do believe in some regulation. And FB effectively doesn't have any.
I've found that people that complain about this often gloss over the fact that Baldanders is stealing bodies and making grotesqueries of children that he rapes. Plenty of bad things happen in those books.
Re:Facebook Wants Access to Your Banking Data on Thursday April 18, 2019 @04:56PM (#19694690)
It doesn't matter if it is old. It is something we should be concerned about.
Yes. This. Facebook just became one of the biggest illegal hackers ever. I really hope the feds bring charges.
This is a federal crime as FB is accessing a system that it does not have permission to access. This is the same as you or me hacking into someone else's email. People have gone to jail for a long time for just this crime.
No I would expect it to follow local patterns. Like what has now happened at St. Patricks in NY.
This misses the character of Severian as others here note. A character need not be a paragon of modern virtue to be good in his setting.
No one said you couldn't use Mozilla. But this is being treated as news when it has already been done elsewhere. I strongly support your right to use whatever browser you want.
What is the problem that they are solving? I don't want Google to be my lens on the world. I never paid them for that. It is for this reason that I unsubscribed from YouTube Red. They stopped being a neutral platform.
Why would this be shocking given the recent attacks on churches and a beheading that happened in one a few years ago?
