Re:Ask HN: MS Outlook login without an extra email address on Saturday October 10, 2026 @05:23PM (#50037327)
Here's an example where somebody can no longer login because they haven't set a secondary email address. I'd set a secondary email address just to be safe. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=50037004

The Show HN didn't go well https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49712720 I'm also unable to open the website (timeout).
Re:Ask HN: How to measure the energy impact of a website in Linux on Wednesday September 30, 2026 @03:58PM (#49913511)
In Firefox type "about:processes" into the address bar and it will show the CPU and memory usage of each tab. Does ChatGPT constantly consume CPU?

Re:AI Poster Prompts Improved on Monday September 21, 2026 @07:07AM (#49785678)
I'd argue nobody in Great Britain would have a Mexican Calavera themed event at a cricket field, never mind the clearly USA-style building in the image.

Set this to False and the world's internet will be safe.

Re:Ask HN: How do HN domain filters work? on Friday September 11, 2026 @09:14AM (#49657878)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shadow_banning is common across social media platforms. HN has some automatic and some manual flagging. I reported some, both false positives and negatives. The "normal way to recover" is established users clicking the "vouch" button on flagged posts. I think the threshold is 500 karma, can't remember. I'm happy for every 'vouch'worthy item I discover. With 50 submissions per hour there's not enough users on the /new page to review everything and tastes are different.

Bing Maps allows the OpenStreetMap community to trace from aerial_imagery https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Bing_Maps#Aerial_imagery Google doesn't. How much a tool helps somebody to draw the actual roads varies by editor software used, some have plugins. Using AI in bulk isn't allowed afaik.

I gave up. Page 4 alone asks for 33 selections.

Re:Is Chasing Stripe Invoices a real issue? on Thursday September 03, 2026 @10:04AM (#49550071)
All the time. But by then the customer already ignored at least 3 reminders from Stripe's automated system and ending more email rarely has an effect, automating it would just replace one automation with another.
Re:Ask HN: Does HN block mobile browsers? on Tuesday September 01, 2026 @06:14PM (#49528970)
I'd say it's an IP or subnet block, unrelated to the type of browser. Maybe automatic block of crawler (too many page requests in short time). If you know your IP address (e.g. https://ipinfo.io/ip) email the moderators. [email protected]
Re:Ask HN: How do you get banned from HN? on Thursday August 20, 2026 @04:15PM (#49379645)
I emailed the moderators now. They probably didn't see your "I no longer want to be on orange reddit. Permaban me." post yesterday. Usually they're responsive, might take a couple of days.
Re:SVG-world-maps – A lightweight, zero-dependency SVG map on Thursday August 20, 2026 @04:11PM (#49379587)
The library looks great. What's missing is a data license. People usually don't have detailed boundaries of sub-country districts. My worry is that the project repackages commercial or licensed data. There are some public domain sources, some requiring attribution (like OpenStreetMap, WOE) I'm just surprised the sources aren't listed.
"AI powered" isn't explained. The homepage doesn't tell me what's special about the service. If the service was AI-built then that's a negative argument.

"W combines a highly optimized interface with built-in AI capabilities like Spam Scanning, Smart Reply and Text Summaries." - add that to the homepage. It's entirely unclear to the reader.

Personally I wouldn't need any of the features, the big players already have them.

Website is hard to read. The font size, the colors. What's the fascination with dark gray text on black background?

Short domain name is only as helpful as I don't need to spell it out over the phone. hey-dot-com vs double-u-dot-ex-why-zed.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.xyz "It was estimated in 2022 that 6.62% of extant domains in the .xyz TLD were malicious. Due to these instances of malware, scams and phishing, multiple anti-malware vendors have blacklisted many or all .xyz domains."

Using Mailgun is too risky. You're responsible for your user actions and they can suspend the service when they see over 0.08% spam reports. One user doing a spam campaign can risk the whole project.

That's an exaggeration. 2 minute search and I found positive feedback but I didn't see nobody calling with AI slop. e.g. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=48751910 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49017314 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49188235

For years I visited the Show HN daily, often gave the first upvote in /new. The number of submissions, especially vibe coded ones, was wearing me down. 35 submissions in the last hour (https://news.ycombinator.com/shownew). Some ideas are really bad and I don't want to get into the habit of only giving negative feedback on ideas, even if justified (example https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49286876)
The article is written by somebody named "Rocío Galiano" and "rogaliano" asks the question? Please don't use friends or second accounts to fake engagement.
I meant to rewatch Her (2013) https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1798709 because it shows an office worker who does work at a computer but the computer is all AI (with voice). It organizes his files, gives suggestions, kind of also does his work. Then he falls in love. We're close to having these capabilities. Good/interesting ending.
Re:Ask HN: Show your micro-SaaS / MRR updates (August 2026) on Thursday August 06, 2026 @07:17AM (#49195194)
Asking people to share their project with revenue numbers rarely gets replies. Risk is too high the project gets copied.

Is that calculated locally or send to the cloud? I got fed up how many Garmin features required an account.
