Re:Price increase on .io domains on January 1, 2022 (Renewal: $55.00)
on Wednesday December 01, 2021 @10:48AM (#29404899)
For me, not having good domains available of hoarding is a bigger problem than paying $55/year. I'm glad there is a TLD that is useful and expensive.

There isn't an IPv4 shortage. There is just hoarding and mismanagement. RIPE and ARIN need to charge monthly fees to IPv4 address hoarders.

"The presence of water is a crucial factor in destroying or inhibiting the growth of pathogenic microorganisms with isopropyl alcohol. Water acts as a catalyst and plays a key role in denaturing the proteins of vegetative cell membranes. 70% IPA solutions penetrate the cell wall more completely which permeates the entire cell, coagulates all proteins, and therefore the microorganism dies. Extra water content slows evaporation, therefore increasing surface contact time and enhancing effectiveness. Isopropyl alcohol concentrations over 91% coagulate proteins instantly. Consequently, a protective layer is created which protects other proteins from further coagulation."
Many viruses have a hydrophilic outer membrane and the water helps the alcohol to penetrate the virus.
Re:Toilet paper is only available if you scan the train station QR code

China typically does not provide toilet paper in public restrooms. In some of the international tourist spots, they tried giving away toilet paper and locals would steal it. So they put in facial recognition and QR codes to dispense it. Source:

272,000 sites surveyed. 0.2% of the sites account for 46% of emissions. 272,000 sites * 0.002 = 544 sites.
544 sites account for 46% of the state's emissions.
Yet the article states, "A handful of operations are responsible for the vast majority of methane emissions."

Re:Uber Driver Tip-Hustling Schemes

I drove for Uber in a resort town and was appalled by how difficult it was to make any money at it even though I was paid twice the metro rates. The biggest problem is all the unpaid work and investment Uber drivers have to make just to drive for Uber and then Uber takes a huge cut.
There are a lot of sunken costs involved in becoming an Uber driver. The driver then has to recover those costs with miserable earnings. I suspect the burn rate of Uber drivers is unsustainably high.

I think blaming third parties in this scenario is silly and Google should be broken up.

Google harms website operators based on the actions of third-parties. Third-parties are to blame.
