TBF it’s also an engine to push for regulations review. Awful lot of regulations are written for an age that no longer exists and just as many are to make management easier therefore startups pushing the boundaries actually are a correcting mechanism.

Unfortunately some harm can be inflicted bur IMHO it’s better than the alternative.

Honestly, AI search(Google or ChatGPT etc) has been fresh breeze of air because the web itself has been stinky pile of garbage with some forgotten gems in it since the last 15 years. Younger people never seen non-garbage website.
Re:Binance-hacker-1029 – $5.6B stolen from Binance on Friday October 30, 2026 @06:51AM (#50302223)
For many bank transfer fees are 0 and happens instantly. No need to wait for the stars to align.
Re:Binance-hacker-1029 – $5.6B stolen from Binance on Friday October 30, 2026 @05:23AM (#50301513)
crypto has its own chain based fees that are transferred to the miners that when crypto is actually used on chain get much higher than typical banking fees.
Re:Binance-hacker-1029 – $5.6B stolen from Binance on Friday October 30, 2026 @02:50AM (#50300583)
Like Binance you mean? It's slow, expensive and they get you at the place where you transfer it. You transfer it because its useless in your computer.
Re:Binance-hacker-1029 – $5.6B stolen from Binance on Friday October 30, 2026 @02:26AM (#50300470)
The problem with Bitcoin being on your computer is that its useless there. No one in the gambling world cares about on-chain exchanges either.

Besides, when its in your computer they send you a modified computer with an esim and steal it just like that: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=50054092

The whole thing is a shady casino where the code is the law and who knows maybe the Binance guy actually made a deal to send $5B of crypto for a really cool NFT when drunk and now pretends that its a hack? We will never know, the code is the law and the law says that someone else has it now.

In crypto, you should gamble fast lose or win and get out. Pay/receive the ransom and get out. Pay/receive your drug/guns/espionage money and get out. You should never keep crypto if you are not OK with losing it.

Re:MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display and Touch on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @02:24PM (#50278561)
I feel the same but I noticed that the boomers and Gen Z both reach for the screen when I am showing them something and they want to interact with it(i.e. scroll a page or close a window).

Maybe the the intuitive and natural way of interaction is touch and the generations between the boomers and the Gen Z are the only ones who command the skillset to use computers in any other way.

This is much better waste of space than Apple AI. It was something I was imagining to build, got pleasantly surprised to see it having been done.
AFAIK He can't in US, at least legally. What I expect to happen is that he will eventually get his city-state with the right combination of people and structure and be the president of it. Just not sure if the ICBMs come first or after.
Listening to Thiel feels like opening a complicated mechanical device while running and looking at the mechanism that makes it tick. Its so raw, its beautiful in its own way. It removes the spell on so many things, it gives you the "I understand why those people do what they do now" kick. It relieves you from emotional baggage.

I wonder when he will obtain bunch of thermonuclear warheads and ICBM.

Re:Lula wins election after final votes tallied on Monday October 26, 2026 @12:10AM (#50239019)
They are most competent in getting elected, which often is not the same as being most competent in anything else.

Even with Germany it turned out that Angela Merkel did grave mistakes and Germans were able to find out about those only after she left office. Being continually in office gives you the ability to hide your trials. The longer you stay the easier it is for you to get elected.

That’s why it is very important to have a time limit in power.

What about them?
It reminds that those feelings invincible may actually not be.
Meanwhile, in Bulgaria there was the presidential election that no one cared about so the turnout is in the %20 and the pro-Russian candidate severely underperformed. It was expected to be %47 vs %30, ended up being in the %30 for both the pro-Russian and the pro-western candidates.

Also the stronghold of Erdogan is crumbling with the collapse of $20B ponzi scheme where all the winners happen to be from Erdogan’s inner circle.

It’s overall a feeling of earth moving in Europe again.

It sounds like you wanted to say that, so no but ok.
So?
The difference is that US Billionaires are doing it without being elected or officially assuming power to do so. In Europe it is important to keep it official as you can just burn their palaces and run them through the guillotine, which even feels wrong saying it in open on US based forum but that's how it has been since many many generations. Europe has seen so many January 6th over they years.

You know how they say that USA is a very new country and that even some pub in Europe can have longer history? Well, that's true but it doesn't mean that European countries have centuries of continued administration, most are a few decades old as a result of revolution or a war.

Europe is a very violent place for politicians, politicians being oversees and untouchable is a very new phenomenon.

At this point sociala media has become a television, on twitter I just unfollowed everyone who have't followed back and I keep seeing the same antisemitic, antimuslim, anti-EU, anti-woman, anti-immigrant shit. My SO happens to see very similar posts to the point that I can't show her a funny post because she would have already seen it. There are some different posts of course but the money shot is mostly the same.

They probably show posts based on location and background, so essentially just like Fox, CNN, MSNBC but everyone sees theirs from the same screen with the same agenda pushed from all of them.

Resentment isn't worthless, the current political climate is a result of overshoot of a resentment towards some liberal policies. The next cycle will overshoot too.
It's interesting times where American Billionaires are deciding the politics in USA, South America and Europe.

I am sure that everyone involved must be feeling invincible but this is how you build resentment that will last and in most cases result in conflicts or regulations. Probably Musk, Zuckerberg and Thiel will be fine but they will destroy the prospects of the upcoming libertarians and cement the Chinese dominance as they don't have a problem of unruly billionaires and the problem of someone getting rich by doing one thing getting the right to do decide on everything and screw it up for everyone. Sad, I really don't want to live in a China-style political system.

The fun part about protesting is that you don’t need proof, lawyers or judges. It’s not a court. Suspecting or believing is enough.
The dark humor aside, is it really a damage when AI kills 49 millionaires? After all it probably creates even more millionaires as their wealth is distributed to survivors. So the actual risk could be when AI kills 49 engineers since that actually may translate to losses for their employers.
Right, so maybe they had an exchange rate after all. Just implicit.

I got the feeling that what they had in their mind was essentially culling the energy consumers with low economic output.

On the bright side, don’t offer an exchange rate based on ethnicity or other background criteria but I get the feeling that your AI won’t be able to kill 49 billionaires without triggering something. Can probably do 49 millionaires without hitting the $1B threshold? Maybe someone will come up with a risk management SaaS as not all millionaires are the same and maybe you’ll hit the $1B before the 49th.
Re:Show HN: Esp32sim – Run ESP32 firmware in the browser on Sunday October 18, 2026 @04:46AM (#50139211)
My work isn't as nearly as impressive as yours, I have some ESP32 boards and a Pi at hand and wanted to build a drone that adapts to different geometries and motors of inconsistent specs so I built this realistic as possible drone simulator that also simulates the boards alongside with the radio, battery, sensors and motors inside a physics simulator. The code that runs in the real boards is executed as a WebAssembly so it behaves exactly the same as it receives simulated sensor data.

The Pi board is intended for navigation and more complex tasks and is able to update the ESP32 flight controller even mid-flight.

Re:Show HN: Esp32sim – Run ESP32 firmware in the browser on Saturday October 17, 2026 @05:53PM (#50135498)
Very cool, that was something I was looking into very recently.

I vibe coded a drone simulator that flys drones by simulating ESP32 in the browser where the actual flight controller C code that runs on real ESP32 is running as WebAssembly: https://mrtksn.github.io/liftlab/

So the drones are flying with the actual ESP32 flight controller and you can flash the real ESP32 board directly.

Re:Tesla Roadster on Friday October 16, 2026 @02:07AM (#50114694)
> devoted so much effort to an economically completely infeasible mode

Just like economically infeasible Twitter, it has tremendous PR value. There is a huge economy revolving around people annoying other people just for a glimpse of their attention. This captures the attention and pleases people. Other car companies should start getting creative too.

In Bulgaria the security guards used to be just protection rackets. Then EU happened and the country normalized but even the previous prime minister used to be a bodyguard.

When those people aren’t around Bulgaria is incredibly peaceful country.

Re:European Alternatives on Sunday October 11, 2026 @06:03AM (#50041504)
These days the latest trend is to vibe code Adobe and MS alternatives from scratch and they are pretty good, Europe has a golden chance of dropping US software vendors.

Apparently EU bureaucrats think that the MS office alternatives are shitty[0], well they can just tell an AI agent whats shitty and get it fixed.

I ever heard of him in the context of having the most subscribers, tried to watch his videos and they look very non-Youtubish to me. They look old school reality TV-like and this is a genre I can’t stand. Maybe he doesn’t know anything special about YT or its algo, maybe it’s just that there’s awful lot of reality TV loving people.
