Not really, the full report refuted this. Issue in Spain was much more nuanced. Mostly related to lax voltage controls and outdated and slow control mechanisms at the grid, high voltage net.

It cannot do PGP, by design, just for a very obvious fault. It won't let you use your own domain and web storage. Sorry, no contest.
Re:Help Keep Thunderbird Alive on Thursday April 09, 2026 @08:06AM (#47702591)
I've been using it to close to 20 years with multiple accounts and it was rock-solid. I wouldn't extrapolate from anecdata, in either direction.

But we should not spread FUD. If you can link to the bug I'd be interested, otherwise it doesn't add much value to claim this.

Re:Help Keep Thunderbird Alive on Thursday April 09, 2026 @06:41AM (#47701877)
I think they are just hating on Mozilla out of pure principles, but without any alternative.
Re:Help Keep Thunderbird Alive on Thursday April 09, 2026 @06:39AM (#47701868)
I really like Thunderbird, it's the only truly cross-platform mail app, with K9 also now on Android.

Works perfect, I even migrated my Windows install to Linux just by copying the data folder, absolutely seamless.

Not sure why people are hating on it so much here. Point to an alternative with the same features?

Re:TDF ejects its core developers on Friday April 03, 2026 @10:24AM (#47627005)
Hah. Anyone with some tokens to burn can compose a report on the data?
Sure, because there are quite a lot of natural Uranium sources on EU soil. Care to name them?
Yes, that's what I thought, but wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt.
Can you please source and explain your claims? They don't match my understanding.

For example:

> Levelised Cost of Energy is the highest, in the entire developed world, in the UK, which has enough wind and solar installed to entirely meet needs today.

Do you mean cost per country (not levelized?)? Even then, UK energy is not the most expensive.

> Ethanol is produced from corn not for energy purposes, but for food security

Source? First time I read this, might make sense. Although I don't see how this corn should be unaffected by crop failure if all other corn harvests failed.

Re:Why Developers Keep Choosing Claude over Every Other AI on Friday February 20, 2026 @07:52AM (#47087390)
I swear to god, these uniform AI-driven low effort article intros really get to me: Not X, but Y!

Word. After more Words. With. Full stops.

Have some pride, at least use a prompt to get rid of this generic lack of style.

Re:xAI joins SpaceX on Tuesday February 03, 2026 @03:30AM (#46868187)
You have presented a good case from the physics textbook for calculating the radiator size.

However, what do you reckon the energy balance is for launching the 1 GW datacenter components into space and assembling it?

Re:Microsoft forced me to switch to Linux on Wednesday January 28, 2026 @12:53PM (#46798967)
That's not my experience at all. The majority of games, especially on Steam, work out of the box.

I would advise the opposite: Don't get an old box. Take your new box, take a new hard disk, and just install Bazzite (and pretend you don't know anything about Linux, just stick with the defaults).

Re:France passes bill to ban social media use by under-15s on Tuesday January 27, 2026 @04:21AM (#46777501)
You are mistaken if you think it is about transgression. Old forums had no algo feeds to manipulate the content you saw and steer you. This is the issue, not so much the content itself.
Re:In Europe, Wind and Solar Overtake Fossil Fuels on Friday January 23, 2026 @07:04AM (#46731508)
It helps overly subsidize renewables and prevents price drops arriving directly at the consumer's bill.
Re:In Europe, Wind and Solar Overtake Fossil Fuels on Thursday January 22, 2026 @12:04PM (#46721943)
> due to the stupid Net Zero taxes.

No. Citation neede. The issue is the moronic way energy auctions are done, first by setting the price to the highest source that can satisfy (always gas) but ignoring (!) geography. Then, phase 2, dropping the impossible providers (i.e. Scottish hydro in the North for South England), and doing another (much more expensive pass). The Octopus CEO had a succinct explainer recently, can't find the video...

Re:In Europe, Wind and Solar Overtake Fossil Fuels on Thursday January 22, 2026 @11:57AM (#46721857)
You have it backwards. At the current cost curve for renewables and storage, Nuclear will never again be able to compete.

See: the overly optimistic SMR plans being predictably scrapped in many places.

What you do have is ample land to build out solar and export eg. Ammonia (made out of Hydrogen) for "free" energy.

How is this not solving the core issue? You need to do both. Ensure the software is made (pay devs), and if you're funding this, make sure it is licensed as a public good (free, oss).
Re:Kidnapped by Deutsche Bahn on Monday December 29, 2025 @05:33PM (#46426670)
Does it matter to the OP's point how well-spoken you are? Biting down some non-constructive snark here.

Yes, English is a good lowest common language, and it is mostly that announcements are in English. But learning enough of the native language that you are at least puzzled enough to ask another passenger seems like a not very high and reasonable bar for travel-speak to pick up.

Re:Swiss vs. UK approach to major tranport projects on Friday August 15, 2025 @07:41AM (#44911128)
Did you read the article and can point out which part of the specific method would not work in the UK?

There is nothing in the outlined strategy that would be made unworkable. You may reach a different value-engineered point, and it explicitly mentions cargo trains as well.

Re:Mozilla shuts down even more Firefox services on Tuesday June 10, 2025 @04:55AM (#44234283)
From TFA, the services:

* Pocket

* Fakespot

* Deep fake detector

* Orbit

I feel that this is a good thing. Have not used any of them, have been annoyed by Pocket integrations, just want a browser.

It does, for anybody who studied math at the level you need to understand Attention (some linear algebra). Please no low effort comments, ask if you don't have the math background and people will gladly help. This is sum notation, see https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Summation
Re:The Hidden Tax Trap for SaaS Founders in Germany on Friday November 15, 2024 @06:02AM (#42145772)
Not from US, so can't comment on what it does for tax credit, but the treaty benefits should still apply.

Also, you should've mentioned that in your OP. Why would a foreign country's tax system care about another country's tax-advantaged investing account?

The tax withholding is seperate from any home countrystax obligations, if that helps to understand it. There are treaties to avoid double taxation that then allow claiming these unavoidable taxes at your tax residency. If you don't pay taxes there, usually you're out of luck.

Re:The Hidden Tax Trap for SaaS Founders in Germany on Friday November 15, 2024 @05:49AM (#42145698)
Sorry to "but actually" you, but that is just because you did not claim the treaty benefits. Pedantic, it is also 26%, not 30%.

You should be able to get 15% tax on dividends, which also count towards your US taxes which you stil have to pay.

It is also exactly the same for foreign investors from Germany investing in US companies. We have to file a W-8BEN, otherwise the US takes 30% on dividends and even on capital gains!

Re:PiML: Python Interpretable Machine Learning Toolbox on Tuesday November 05, 2024 @05:08PM (#42055615)
Given the broader state of the Python ecosystem, that is a red flag for me. Why would you add an OSS license but withhold the sourcecode?

The only reason I can think of is to "trick" people into downloading and betting that no-one actually checks the source, then hiding something in the .so files that are shipped as wheels. Tread carefully.

Thank you, and sorry. Had the wrong link in my clipboard.

Fascinating, how does that work? Can anybody explain in simpler terms how that was legal to begin with?

Re:Invention to Impact: The story of LASIK eye surgery on Saturday June 15, 2024 @05:09AM (#40688494)
Interesting. From what to what? How many dpt +-, and how long did you stay there before starting your regimen?
That is just being pedantic. In reality, there are no observable tasks that take infinite time.

And the actual statistical process is probably unknowable anyway, we are very likely dealing with a sum of random variables, hence the Central Limit Theorem applies anyway.

See my sibling reply, there is no requirement that you observe negative values for a process to be normally distributed.
