Re:Gen Z Is the First Generation Dumber Than Their Parents on Monday October 19, 2026 @03:46PM (#50157133)
I am as powerless to stop the gen-z slander as I was to stop it before for millenials. I never condoned it, only welcomed OP to the party.
How much of that was driven by CYA after that guy was assaulted on Delta and the evidence was recorded

Enjoy the ride? There was no shortage of "Millenials suck because XYZ" articles for the last few decades. Thousands of articles written accusing us of being child-like right up until we had grey hair and kids of our own.
Re:Websites are closing their doors to AI agents on Sunday October 18, 2026 @11:27AM (#50141926)
Without the ads? The pessimist in me thinks with all the ads, prompt injections, and long-form content marketing included. Already you can see Google's AI results rehashing marketing slop in the answers about how amazing one product or another is.

Wasn't there some restaurant review site that gets accused of doing pay-to-play hiding of negative reviews and promoting positive ones that calls up businesses and basically extorts them into their services? They have all the incentive in the world now to manipulate the results shown to AI agents. You won't even see the manipulation directly yourself when there's an AI sitting between you and the source acting like an obfuscation layer.

Well when you put it like that, were right wing folks ever really pro free speech?
Re:Retired Penn professor arrested for blocking Uber Eats robot on Saturday October 17, 2026 @08:15PM (#50136549)
Jaywalking only became a crime because of lobbying from automobile companies. Are you really surprised in who is getting criminalized here now with delivery bots?
I had a bird feeder out in my backyard one winter and had a hawk show up looking for lunch. A squirrel that was hanging around scrounging on the ground ran and hid under a cedar tree. It was interesting because for 99% of other threats, their instinct is to get off ground level and up a tree or telephone pole to safety. Apparently they're smart enough to know not to do that with birds of prey.

Feels about right

To play Spy Hunter irl?
I could've sworn I read about Palmer Lucky making comments on hardware coming from China with wiretap implants in the last few days. Funny coincidence eh?
No matter how genuine and truthful he may or may not be, it was all over the moment they made him eat the McDonald's burger on airforce one for that photo op.

The C in CEO here stands for Clown
Re:US Suspends Visa Program for Tech Firms Including Microsoft on Thursday October 08, 2026 @12:45PM (#50008173)
Plenty of tech workers in Canada and LATAM in the same time zones
Re:SynthID Detector on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @11:20AM (#49994074)
And there lies the rub. You can't verify if they do or don't embed such content. These companies are just like "trust me bro".
Also reminiscent of iirc Intel's choke hold on companies like Dell that froze out AMD

I'm definitely guilty of writing some sick memory-trashjng bugs when I was first getting started as an intern. The best one had my team lead and a staff engineer puzzling over what the hell was going on. The second best one had someone hunting down my email and messaging me months after the internship ended just to cuss me out haha. Perhaps it is better I don't work in C anymore.
Well there's a whole lot of ocean one doesn't need to be stealth to fly over but really, your comments read like endless goal-post shifting from someone who has a preferred solution in mind and is working backwards to justify it. Also the SR-71 was never stealth, only reduced observability. The USSR was very aware of the overflights taking place.
Re:Social Reality in China on Saturday October 03, 2026 @09:57AM (#49944317)
The bit about why one would want to be a doctor. Money, status, approval... helping sick people (hysterical laughter). Is exactly how my millenial Chinese colleagues that came to North America to study in university are like.
Re:Everyone's Packing Up on Friday October 02, 2026 @11:03PM (#49941035)
All those big platforms have to say:

Pack it up, pack it in, let me begin

I came to win, battle me, that's a sin

I won't ever slack up, punk, ya better back up!

Re:Frog and Toad and the Increasingly Capable Machines on Friday October 02, 2026 @03:09PM (#49937299)
Reading about Frog and Toad making little thinking machines is a lot like Trurl and Klapaucius in Cyberiad
Re:Don't be fooled–LLMs don't reason on Friday October 02, 2026 @12:10PM (#49935168)
Suppose you put an LLM in a "inference -> observe -> retrain weights" loop.
The OkCupid guys figured out that it was (potential) that best predicted stable relationships and everything else was just a proxy for that feature. Similar/compatible education level? Just a proxy for income. Similar/compatible hobbies? Guess what, also a proxy for income!
Well there's also the X-37B Orbital "Test Vehicle" that performs some long-run missions. Satellite warfare? Observation instrument tests? Who knows!
Re:US Forces Exit Iraq on Tuesday September 29, 2026 @10:07AM (#49893560)
4,500 Americans and how many civilians?
This is gen alpha's squinting at scrambled cable porn haha
What's the meme about Google products and chat features?
Re:So long Google, and thanks for all the nudes on Monday September 28, 2026 @03:02PM (#49882836)
The part where the author is aware that any missteps in "debugging" the review process can get their account permabanned is lovely. I'm sure I've read cases here before where a developer has lost all their emails and family photos because their policies.
Re:When did Google get so f-ing weird? on Sunday September 27, 2026 @06:02PM (#49871301)
When I was in grade 8 and 9 in public school, we'd got a couple random lessons in the library on the computers learning to search online databases and catalogues. For most of us it was our introduction to keyword matching and boolean logic. Sadly, instead of continuing teaching, services have instead phased out those basic operators and here we are. We also learned to make websites using Pagemaker and edit the generated html, that was just fun.
