agree 100%

it really isn't a flex ppl think it is when they're burning tokens churning agents that are working for "hours" doing work

we don't need to read or write code anymore, but we do need to write (as humans) the instructions for agents.

having ADRs, product specs, acceptance criteria, etc. that are properly maintained leads to agents working for just a few minutes and pumping out reliable code.

the more vague the work for agents, the more randomness and inefficiency there will be. that leads to bugs, constantly re-writing code, etc.

imo ofc, i'm not yet running a billion dollar company so maybe i'm wrong.

i think this is just a dream as we approach singularity we will wake up.

or at least i might wake up since im the one typing this.

and im arriving at alpha centauri.

all the progress and human evolution, timelines etc with exponential acceleration in the last act.

all to do with the effects of space time travel. the brain needs to remain active even in stasis.

thats the wake up signal.

Re:Anthropic S-1 on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @11:49AM (#50261104)
you're right.

actual intelligence is understanding a light hearted analogy (fill in the gaps) and doing a chuckle, and moving on.

you still need to engineer/architect your system so that agents are able to efficiently build modify and test the system.

an agent that can quickly figure out which responsibility goes where means the next time there's a bug or feature request, that agent then can actually work in an efficient way and get the task done.

do you want your agents working for 15 minutes or more, constantly regurgitating slop, or do you want your agents working for 5-6 minutes or less?

just remember, agents are only supercharged when they're driven by someone who knows what they're doing.

i'm in sf, and i'm always blown away by people whose systems are either dog shit god awful, or whose systems are god tier insanely good.

it really isn't a flex to spend a ton on tokens or ai compute time, if you're putting out less actual work. ppl who flex like that with mid or worse results are morons.

my systems are somewhere in the middle i'd say, and i strive to be in the latter group.

this is honestly why i don't trust guys who are "wife guys"

aka the guys who bring up their wife all the time regardless of the situation.

its really not masculine and makes me trust that "man" less

billions of people have spouses. it isn't a big deal. stop bringing them in as a deflection mechanism to soften whatever shit they're gonna say next lol

that’s true.

actually on that point i’m all in on selling consumerism to as many people as possible. women are actually way easier to retain and far more susceptible to fomo.

great customers.

yeah the modern net is a better experience for the billions of people who aren’t nerds like us on HN
i grew up without running water. these types of problems are caused by people who play zero sum games, on both side (the victims and the oppressors).

you live your life.

i'm living my best life.

there's also way too much woke non-sense in movies. i'm a tan non-caucasian guy, before someone has a micro-aggression.

i prefer watching older movies now where they actually "build the world" the movie is set within, instead of injecting politics from our world into some made up world.

i miss when fantasy and fiction actually met the definition.

Re:The 1.5°C goal of the Paris Agreement is no longer viable on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @09:03AM (#50180243)
i’m just saying moneyed interests drive incentives.

the vast vast majority of people who can affect change come from money and influence.

the broke ones are the outliers.

voting and stuff is cool but end of the day it is an exclusive club.

this is a good goal to have
Re:Ask HN: Is Wikipedia going to be obsolete soon? on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @08:19AM (#50179674)
most wiki articles on current events are so politically slanted these days.

i hope so.

Re:The 1.5°C goal of the Paris Agreement is no longer viable on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @08:17AM (#50179646)
speaking of meat it isn’t really the subsidies imo.

it’s a political thing. most people are dumb and politics is made for the lowest common denominators.

you’re called slurs if you reject factory farmed meat.

i personally eat a mostly plant based diet and only eat sustainably wild caught fish a few times a week.

meat is like 5x more expensive than tofu. beans and lentils are cheap. i get about 130g of protein a day and my health results are in the 99pct.

we live in a world surrounded by absolute dumb fucks.

the only solution is to make hella money (billions+) so we can control incentives.

Re:The 1.5°C goal of the Paris Agreement is no longer viable on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @08:07AM (#50179529)
90% of people are stupid and people who think this deep like you are basically <1%

so better to just live in SF or certain areas of the midwest

where climate change won’t affect me

very nice
or maybe the leftist movements are also just as batshit insane as those they claim to "oppose" but so many people are brain broken these days it is impossible to have that discussion lol
Re:Tesla Roadster on Friday October 16, 2026 @01:03AM (#50114290)
cringe woke talking points not backed by reality.

also why can’t the rest of the world step up and do something for once btw. m

free loading is boring.

Re:'Wallace and Gromit,' 90% Alone on Friday October 09, 2026 @03:40PM (#50025672)
i watched wallace and gromit as a very small kid, so i didn't really understand anything.

but it made me miss my dad a lot and i'd cry the whole time. we had it on vhs and there were like 4 or 5 of them, so i'd watch them over and over. i was like 3 or 4 or something.

its weird to say but even as an adult i cannot make it through more than 10-15 min of the movie.

obviously

i hope so!

well hopefully the world has also advanced enough in other ways lol

imagine getting up and math is solved, but you still have to deal with bullshit lol

can you share more about the robotics advances, what you are aware of? sounds very exciting.
Re:Sharing AI progress in mathematics on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @01:13AM (#49988507)
silly question, i don't mean to come off wrong or anything..

but at least as a software engineer, i always knew my work was "never done" and so it was common to build a bunch of code that might be thrown away, either because it didn't serve our customers (the mvp or pilot fails to meet demand), or because we found a better way to do it and so we deprecate it.

some people got too attached to the code and honestly they were the types to be filtered out fast.. way too emotional and hard to work with. getting attached to code meant you actually don't advance (after all, in our case, we were a business serving customers and not a hobby artisan shop). attachment leads one to hold back due to some misplaced cognitive load.

isn't the goal of working on "advancing the field/product/whatever" to always be solving/selling/whatever?

maybe in your hands, with your knowledge and experience over the last 20+ years, you can use AI to make leaps and bounds by steering it properly towards whatever solution or goal?

Re:40 years of writing code. I didn't see the end coming on Friday October 02, 2026 @07:38PM (#49939910)
so why did you work at a company as a employee or contractor? never understood these kinds of takes..

you should be thankful someone figured out how to capitalize your labor because you certainly were unable to do it on your own.

surely, you can show us how it is done?

Re:Ask HN: What's a good title for a software engineer now? on Friday October 02, 2026 @05:42PM (#49938962)
yeah this is probably the one.

i think it’s going to be a mix of product design and maybe a mix of sales/marketing/etc. involved so that engineers can steer the ai to a solution.

everyone’s talking about gold bots

what about world mobs and ai pvp players?

like how cool would it be to be roaming around and there’s a group of 3 or 4 horde or alliance bots wandering around as a war band or maybe they’re doing a special mission.

or a world boss who could engage in more interesting ways than just a fight.

a richer world would be cool in a game where it’s so casual and optimized there’s almost zero social interactions anymore and the world is barren.

i haven’t played wow since cata but that’s what my friends say about it to me. even in cata the world would feel dead.
