Maybe a hot take, but I think you'd be insane to give Claude access to your 1password vault
> Like it is honestly hard for me to put into words how absurdly on-the-nose it is

These guys are also often longevity enthusiasts as well. It's not uncommon to see the belief that AI is going to deliver us from disease, and even mortality itself.

I see a lot of the use cases for these tools as just ways to counterfeit yourself. It's kind of gross, IMO.
Re:Thunderbird for iOS on Thursday October 15, 2026 @08:50AM (#50102902)
It's a bad default, and most people don't dig into settings

Yes, please

I do not like the vertical tabs at all
Re:AI Makes Me Sad on Friday October 02, 2026 @11:40AM (#49934754)
It was always "bad", but it used to be fun
Re:Tech Needs Humanists More on Friday September 25, 2026 @09:07AM (#49844126)
I saw it put nicely somewhere that I can't find "the rational is a subset of the real"
Re:Tech Needs Humanists More on Friday September 25, 2026 @06:04AM (#49842381)
People often complain about the humanities requirements for CS degrees, and now the world is run by tech executives who don’t have a clue.
Re:Good people refuse to do bad things on Monday September 21, 2026 @01:55PM (#49790813)
That is addressed in the article. E.g. how Meta knows about the harms they’re actively causing, and carries on anyway. People and firms do things they know are wrong all the time.
Re:Grok 4.7 on Monday September 21, 2026 @01:35PM (#49790478)
It’s either compartmentalization, or something else
Re:Good people refuse to do bad things on Monday September 21, 2026 @01:25PM (#49790349)
The heads of the firms themselves believe it too. Maybe it’s reasonable to quit your job if your boss thinks he’s building a doomsday machine (regardless of how ridiculous you or anyone else find that idea)
Re:Good people refuse to do bad things on Monday September 21, 2026 @01:01PM (#49790008)
All OP has to believe is that Coxon himself believes the hype.
Re:Good people refuse to do bad things on Monday September 21, 2026 @12:51PM (#49789813)
You can also use moral relativism to cope with doing basically anything unethical, especially so when you’re offered dump trucks full of money.
Re:Resist "AI" on Friday September 11, 2026 @09:29AM (#49658103)
Predictions and prescriptions are different things. E.g. they said that recorded music would cause fewer people to sing and perform in their own homes. This happened, but we're all largely just fine with it.
Re:Resist "AI" on Friday September 11, 2026 @07:01AM (#49656328)
To be fair, many of the old anti-technology arguments were correct. We lived with the consequences, but life also went on.
Re:Nitter is unarchived and will continue on Sunday September 06, 2026 @03:54PM (#49590236)
Anyone remember back in the day when every platform had RSS feeds, and you could aggregate your Facebook and Twitter on sites like FriendFeed? “Embrace, Extend, Extinguish”
Re:CarPlay Is Additive on Friday July 03, 2026 @08:48AM (#48774381)
I admire the restraint the CarPlay designers have in adding features. E.g. in music apps, you can't click-through to an artist page from a song page. Annoying on the surface, but it actually naturally restricts your mucking about in menus. I bet any money that that one choice has saved lives.
I’m trying to not be snarky here, but it is difficult to have an optimistic take about an advertising company working on mind reading technology. At some point we have to call a spade a spade, I think.
It'll be a cold day in hell before Meta gets access to my brainwaves. Good heavens, can you imagine?
OpenClaw just seems so broken and insecure by-design. I feel like you'd have to be crazy to use it.
Re:Toxicity on Social Media – The Noisy Room on Tuesday May 12, 2026 @08:57AM (#48107605)
> Tall in this context are rich and influential people

This is a double edged sword. Lots of "thought leaders" on twitter have outed themselves as lacking in both thought, and leadership.

This is way too close to the Simpsons joke about the periodic tables provided by Oscar Mayer

Actually the speeeed guys, now. They left because Donut went to shit after getting purchased by Private Equity. Surprise, surprise.

Aren't they incentive to treat bot impressions as real?
Re:Building a New Flash on Wednesday March 04, 2026 @08:50PM (#47256468)
I think it's taken for granted just how good flash was. It gets hated on a lot because it was proprietary and insecure, but it's really impressive that they had a system where teenagers could make genuinely good games and animations, and then play them in web browsers on machines with Pentium IIs. There's nothing else like that today.
Re:MacBook Neo on Wednesday March 04, 2026 @11:53AM (#47250303)
> and to never do anything that other people than the owner want

Windows 11 is full of ads, telemetry, and AI slop, much of which is impossible to disable. Very few owners want this.

Re:MacBook Neo on Wednesday March 04, 2026 @10:10AM (#47248635)
I would personally take a MacBook Neo over literally any laptop Acer makes, anywhere in their lineup, any day of the week.
Re:MacBook Neo on Wednesday March 04, 2026 @09:53AM (#47248338)
I agree that it's gone downhill, but have you been on a Windows 11 machine? It's just a cacophony of ads, jank, and slop. The computing equivalent of sitting on a lawn chair in Times Square
Re:MacBook Neo on Wednesday March 04, 2026 @09:50AM (#47248286)
Assuming nothing really bad comes out of the reviews, this looks like the best computer for like 99% of users. I really can't imagine buying some plastic-fantastic Acer unit when this is on the market.
