1. Generate unit tests beyond the best-case scenario. Analogy: Netflix's Chaos Monkey

2. Incremental cleanup: I also use it as a fancier upgrade of Visual Studio's Code Analysis feature and aid me in finding areas to refactor.

3. Treating the model as a corpus of prior knowledge and discussions, I can form a 'committee of agents' (Security, Reliability, UX engineer POVs) to help me view my work at a more strategic level.

My additional twist to this is to check against my organization's mission statement. That way, I hope I can help reduce mission drift that I observe was a big issue behind dysfunctional companies.

Choosing not to pirate and not to consume simultaneously is not necessarily a wrong choice. A difficult one? Yes. But I propose that it could be beneficial for your mental (and maybe physical) health.

Re:Valve: HDMI Forum Continues to Block HDMI 2.1 for Linux on Wednesday December 10, 2025 @05:54PM (#46225159)
I'm tired, boss.

The winning move is not to play. The HDMI Forum (and other orgs that behave similarly) prey on our desire for the most/best/(insert superlative here). I get that there's no free lunch. It is also true you see a lot of initiatives and projects do a lot of collective good while demanding much less.

From what I remember, in past bubbles that burst, everyone thought stocks will go up forever.

So, if people are wondering out loud (with widespread traction) if there's a bubble, there's probably not one. It may be self-fulfilling. The awareness of a potential bubble influences us to be more cautious.

Re:Gaming on Linux has never been more approachable on Wednesday November 19, 2025 @05:46PM (#45986357)
Changed from Windows 10 to an Ubuntu with beefy specs. When I saw firsthand the improvement of the user experience, I felt the year of the Linux desktop is nigh.
"You" could range from being a scapegoat in a family/school class, to you being a member of an undesirable minority.
Re:Character.ai to Bar Children Under 18 from Using Its Chatbots on Wednesday October 29, 2025 @05:16PM (#45753153)
Such a mindset is ripe for selective enforcement and discrimination if society or someone powerful does not like you.
It's a symptom of a service problem.

EA... good?
Re:TikTok set to be banned in the US after losing appeal on Friday December 06, 2024 @09:10PM (#42346677)
I mean it's similar to banning Monegasque locals from gambling in Monte Carlo

Life finds a way
A good stainless steel pan. I cook eggs there. It needs a certain technique to pull off, but once you learn it, the food tastes a lot better.
Re:Throw Out Your Black Plastic Spatula on Thursday October 31, 2024 @05:44PM (#42011859)
Seconding steps 1-2. I don't do step 3 because I want to whisk the eggs. It takes some practice, but the end result is worth it. The eggs taste better when cooked on a stainless pan.
Re:What Kind of Writer Is ChatGPT? on Thursday October 03, 2024 @06:11PM (#41735618)
ChatGPT's style is like an academic writer's. It's tone and word choice are same-ish across various subjects, but it's coherent and easy to understand. In retrospect, I've seen papers that would pass as GPT-created if they're written after 2022.
One step closer to me listening to public domain-only music if I could help it.
Re:Fraud, so much fraud on Friday September 27, 2024 @04:46PM (#41675371)
It's disheartening to think that the virtues you are told to have as a kid are considered "weak sauce" once you are an adult.
It should be treated as a natural monopoly (i.e. digital utility) along with all that it entails.
I can tell technical papers influenced ChatGPT's outputs the most. Most of the articles generated using it may be regurgitated, but I can't deny how easily digestable the info is when presented that way.

I use Feedly, switched to it from my previous platform because it can support atom feeds
Re:Nvidia hits $3T market cap on back of AI boom on Wednesday June 05, 2024 @04:45PM (#40590391)
As someone who dabbles in creating fiction as a pasttime, it's revolutionary. I can use AI to come up with details for minutiae that I don't have the time nor energy to conceptualize. There's just too many things that are in my head and not enough capabilities to realize them in a pre-AI world. The AI outputs are garbage as-is, but what they come up with already does 80% of the work done. I can do the rest to make it completely fit my needs.
Anecdotally, this worked on for me. It's not a great improvement, but it was noticeable.
Re:Sakuga-42M Dataset: Scaling Up Cartoon Research on Friday May 17, 2024 @05:26PM (#40394357)
It's used as research. How valid is this usage as fair use?
This is why I'm wary of any talk of AI regulation. I understand the theory that unfettered AI is very powerful and dangerous. It's only my concern of the actual policies being as anti-consumer as intellectual property with regards to digital content.
Re:I love programming but I hate the programming industry on Sunday April 21, 2024 @11:29AM (#40106502)
The issue is that at its purest, programming does not sustain itself financially, or it does but not in the short term. The programming industry is designed to be financially profitable (let alone sustainable) even if it's a conceptual dead end when it comes to groundbreaking stuff.
Re:New York medical school eliminates tuition after $1B gift on Monday February 26, 2024 @05:30PM (#39517510)
It'll be similar to how horse drivers reacted when cars became popular, or painters with the advent of the camera.
Re:I turned my ThinkPad into a programmable USB device on Thursday February 22, 2024 @05:00PM (#39473913)
My laptop's monitor went bust and now serves as a glorified CPU.
Re:Ask HN: What are some actual use cases of AI Agents right now? on Wednesday February 14, 2024 @04:26PM (#39375655)
From a creative writing perspective, I can set personalities or quirks for a character and it can come up with in-character responses and dialogue.
It's like the Matrix. In my opinion, there's 1%-2% of the entire population that pirate out of principle or "cost savings"
It still requires a human to be sometimes skeptical of the AI's results.
