Re:It's still OK to enjoy programming on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @07:56AM (#50164952)
I keep hearing this but it sort of neglects the fact that some of us had/have other hobbies. It was nice to have a job that was enjoyable and be completely satisfied with the amount of programming I got to do during it. When I clocked out at 5 I moved on to doing other fun activities. If I want to program now it means I have to stop doing my other hobbies. The way I see it though, most people hat there jobs and now I get to be with most people instead of some weird nerd.
Re:We Write Code by Hand on Monday September 21, 2026 @10:55AM (#49788101)
Can you still use Claude/ChatGPT as a "better google" or would that not count as hand coding anymore? I guess if you type it out instead of copy and pasting it. That's not much different than the old way of using Stack Overflow but with the ability to ask more specific questions.
Re:AI-generated posters don’t have to be horrible on Saturday September 19, 2026 @06:31PM (#49770633)
A lot of the AI generated posters are just too crowded. I think part of the beauty of the "old fashioned way" is that time and budget constraints forced you to prioritize what was important.
I think they still make sense for the non technical user. Having an idiomatic control makes setup far easier than on a PC and the UI for a console is designed to be used with a controller instead of a keyboard and mouse. This makes dealing with a television easier. I don't see consoles disappearing ever for those reasons.
Re:The cult of vibe coding is insane on Monday April 06, 2026 @05:12PM (#47667203)
We don't know how Claude Code looked before it was vibe coded. It might have always sucked.
Re:Lotus, a web framework for Ruby on Tuesday June 24, 2014 @10:11AM (#7937815)
Theres a bit of politics that get in the way of "fixing rails". Mainly, many things that others consider anti patterns, DHH and other maintainers are fine with.
Re:Opal: Ruby to JavaScript Compiler on Thursday June 05, 2014 @02:03PM (#7853232)
If performance is an issue, you can drop down back to JS using %x{} or ``. Good idea to do this for mathematical operations.
