...that and - combined with clickbaity headlines that are, sometimes, not all that newsworthy... ugh... i actually do filter 'Tesla' from my RSS feeds because it is that bad...

Only HN gets a free pass - most of the time...

Re:Tesla Roadster on Friday October 16, 2026 @08:43AM (#50117667)
???

Rip away center tunnel carpet on rhs (lhd vehicle), remove 2 screws from below glove compartment, fold away panel, remove cap from filter compartment, remove 2 filters - put back together in reverse order.

That's literally a 20 minute job if you about know what you should be doing - a.k.a. read about the process in the free service manual of Tesla (only need an account, free) or watched a YT video...

Re:Siri is so bad at everything on Thursday October 15, 2026 @11:52AM (#50105481)
I still think they’re in denial that their “Home” product as a whole isn’t going anywhere and still wait for them to just drop it…

That being said - not adding any more examples of “Siri bad because” for my blood pressure staying on normal levels - one thing that also is one more example how hard Apple fail at basic things:

Ok, so there’s this feature that charges your phone until it presumes you’ll need it?

Why on earth does it arbitrarily decide to be finished at 04:00 when I did set an alarm to 06:30?

Why oh why…

Re:New Apple TV 4K on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @01:24PM (#50075362)
Laggy / stuttering interface may well be a unsuitable HDMI cable…

Yes, really - switching cables instantly got rid of any stuttering in the UI no reboot or setting could fix for me - if I wouldn’t have experienced it myself I probably wouldn’t have believed it..

Re:New Apple TV 4K on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @01:19PM (#50075294)
Ok, but what do you actually use the storage for on an Apple TV?

I still don’t quite know why i actually got a 64GB 4K first gen ATV when, in practice, a 32GB would’ve sufficed?

Do people really play games on these? Install that many apps on them?

FWIW, neither the KIR nor the OOB patch did fix the black screen problem for us on Citrix.. waiting for another round of updates... yay.
> remote access and pasting issues

And, to top it all off, not even the Microsoft-issued "Known Issue Rollback" semi-fix did the trick, at least not on Citrix...

Yes, that dangerous effect is indexed as GWP - global warming potential.

CO2 has a GWP of 1 in this context, while other refrigerants are worse - for example, R32 has a GWP of 675 (so 675x worse if it escapes), not sure about R290 (Propane), which I believe is either about 40 or 14…

Regarding EoL: At least around here, household appliances such as fridges are brought to a recycling yard and are properly taken care of in that regard… and as for heatpumps - those are only to be installed by certified professionals, for this very reason.

Re:Thanks to Siri Recaps, your Apple Watch is always listening on Thursday September 10, 2026 @07:42AM (#49642064)
That’s actually a good thing to me, wasn’t going to get another Apple Watch anyways - now that’s an even firmer decision now.

My reasoning so far was that I absolutely didn’t get the use out of it I envisioned and, to my even bigger surprise, the integration between Watch and iPhone wasn’t even that good…

Lay down the pitchfork, this _is_ on the dashboard - and has been since sometime in 2023: https://tesla-info.com/release/2023.38#Location%20Sharing
> Seat position profiles is a great feature, making it automatic is completely unnecessary.

Driving a Model 3, I disagree - having seats and basically everything else adjust as soon as you open the door is the biggest boon I can imagine. I totally wish the rearview mirror would adjust as well…

…which is also never in an ideal angle for production..

Sono Motors tried it and went under..

In theory, it sounds great and even obvious, but once you get into the details - not so much..

Windows 8, Windows Vista, and - ohmygoddidthatreallyhappen - Windows ME.
At least Debian and Ubuntu have /etc/machine-id, presumably easily changed - but it’s there.

Re:Building an Open-Source Robot Vacuum – Meet Oomwoo on Thursday July 02, 2026 @11:10AM (#48762850)
The old S5 ones are very easy - factory reset, connect to wireless AP, run utility, done.
Re:Building an Open-Source Robot Vacuum – Meet Oomwoo on Thursday July 02, 2026 @01:00AM (#48756736)
Also very fond of the Roborock S5, in fact I recently got a second one for the other floor - totally took it apart, cleaned it, put it back together and stuck Valetudo onto it. The first one is from 2017 and still going strong - issues so far: battery replaced (only recently), laser motor replaced, fuse replaced. Aside from the fuse it was very easy and doable for basically anyone.
Re:New Beam Spring Keyboards on Monday June 01, 2026 @12:18AM (#48352556)
I could probably $searchengine this, but not being into keyboards: none of that made any sense to me :D
Yes they did: https://gitlab.com/nightmare-eclipse

That git account was posted on their blogspot...

Re:The Quiet Renovation at Bitwarden on Monday May 18, 2026 @04:36PM (#48185259)
Password App surely is a good alternative, however i don’t think there are clients for Linux or Windows? …and that is where Bit/Vaultwarden comes into play.
No, there’s only enough Bundestrainer every other world championship…

This thread is no good for my bank account. Ordered
Which ones?

A colleague drives a BMW 3something hybrid and as far as i know has a 14kWh battery..

Thats good for about a 100km, but i very much wouldn't consider that a "fully" electric car by any means (edit: did you edit your post? couldve sworn you said "fully electric" instead of "mediocre range"?)...

Also, what most people don't realize: if you're only (or mostly) driving it electric, you're putting many more cycles onto that tiny battery.

...which usually costs as much as a "regular" EV battery, x times the size.

https://evclinic.eu/2024/09/05/bmw-hybrid-repeated-battery-f... for example...

(well, the functionality aspect of it at least)

Re:The Super Nintendo Cartridges on Sunday April 26, 2026 @05:01AM (#47908673)
...much to their detriment, sadly.

R.I.P. Dreamcast, R.I.P. 32x, R.I.P. Mega CD, R.I.P. Saturn...

That, for one - also: people constantly are overconfident in their ability to judge the status of really anything in a ICE car.

Newsflash: you simply cannot "readout" the status of an engine, transmission, ...

But you can/could/should for a battery.

Now, someone hammer that into peoples brains...

Bollocks - all generalizations are false.

My Model 3 (RWD SR+ 2023) is 1847kg unloaded weight, including driver.

Do you mind sharing which make & model that'd be?
