News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

Our forefathers put their tooth fairy money in a trust to maintain the sum total of human knowledge. Ever notice how people back in the day all had missing teeth? Like Washington and his wooden dentures? We owe them mightily.

I wonder if the ads are now targeted more toward the idiot end of the spectrum as the only people without ad blockers...
Re:What’s new in civic tech: National Day of Civic Hacking on Friday September 20, 2019 @11:32PM (#21033323)
Can’t tell if this is about ethically hacking the government for the good of the people or about making four cylinder Japanese cars sound like a dying mouse.

“You can only use your toys so much before they get boring.”

This has yet to be proven. We need an experiment.

I don’t think this is a blind person thing. Ask any nerd about something they’re into, and you stand a pretty good chance of receiving a firehouse of words representing their steam of consciousness.
Isn’t this Apple’s entire business model?
Aren’t we trying to prevent an attacker with physical access? They could simply unplug everything first.
Are you the reason why my office water dispenser has a touch screen?

It’s disputed, but shouldn’t be. The third investigation pretty conclusively showed it was a bomb placed under the wash basin in the rear lavatory.

The missing body parts near the front of the plane suspected to be the missile impact point were found.

Idk where you live, but it ain’t Boston.
Oh oh oh. Can I play?

Everyone is entitled to enter a restroom or no one is. I can get behind that. No more multi-toilet rooms with stall gaps.

Everyone enjoys the right that if you are unable to fulfill your job due to a disability, and a reasonable accommodation could be provided which would allow you to fulfill your job, you’re entitled to the accommodation.

But if it is circumvented then it wasn’t effectively controlling access; therefore, this isn’t applicable.

A savvy lawyer might argue that’s not what’s meant by effectively, but it’s at least a little ambiguous.

Ebooks can appreciate.

You could have originally bought it on sell and that sell is no longer available.

You could have added value to the ebook by way of adding annotations.

The ebook could have had better display than its competitors, if it and all other equal quality displays vanished, they are now very rare. Someone would be willing to pay more than your original purchase price if they could now get that display experience.

Have you found a solution to piracy that does involve DRM?

I’m guessing an inter library loan wasn’t possible?

What are you looking for? There’s a decent chance someone here lives near a copy.

Because they first chose the result they wanted — age of universe and worked backwards to derive that result. Is it true? Sure, probably. The method flys in the face of the foundations of science and was done for sensationalism.

What’s special about 462K? Is it a local min/max? Doesn’t seem so.

Did you change anything to help get traction? Seems to me that’s just a verbose way of saying you spammed it.
Re:A Rocket Built by Students Reaches Space on Thursday May 23, 2019 @12:26PM (#19993149)
If you accept premise of unlimited budget and outsourcing, sending something to space is about as difficult as saying “Hey Elon, I want this thing to go to space.”

The point here is that college students are able to pull this off with a small budget and lots of DIY.
