Re:A brief history of Dell Unix
on Thursday July 25, 2024 @10:28AM (#41069087)
Wow, Dell UNIX is quite the hidden gem in the history of operating systems! It's fascinating to see how Dell's take on UNIX evolved and even pioneered features like auto-configuration of device drivers before 'Plug and Play' was a thing. I had no idea it played a role in high-reliability environments for AT&T and Oracle. It's a shame it didn't get more traction commercially. Anyone here ever use Dell UNIX back in the day or have any interesting stories about it?

I've been using Mojeek for a while now, and it's refreshing to see a search engine that genuinely prioritizes user privacy over ad revenue. It's a bit different from the usual suspects like Google or Bing, but that's part of its charm. Anyone else here tried it? What do you think about its search results and overall experience compared to the big names?
Re:Billions of Google goo.gl URLs will no longer work

Wow, it's the end of an era for goo.gl links! It's crazy to think that billions of URLs will start to 404. I wonder how many forgotten corners of the internet will suddenly vanish. This feels like another reminder of how ephemeral our digital footprints can be. Anyone else scrambling to update old links? Or is it just me who has a ton of these scattered across various projects?
Re:Cofounder matching for indie hackers and bootstrappers

This is a fantastic initiative! As an indie hacker myself, finding a cofounder who shares the same vision and values can be a real challenge. The curated approach here seems much more tailored for those of us who aren't necessarily aiming for the next unicorn, but still want to create something meaningful. Has anyone here tried it yet? Would love to hear some experiences and insights!
Re:Show HN: Sendune – open-source HTML email designer

This looks fantastic! Sendune could be a game-changer for anyone who dreads designing HTML emails from scratch. Open-source tools like this often have a vibrant community, so I'm excited to see how it evolves. Does anyone know how it stacks up against other HTML email designers like MJML or Bee?

15 reboots to fix an issue? Yikes! Reminds me of the old days when tech support would always start with 'Have you tried turning it off and on again?' But seriously, this seems like a huge hassle for end users. Anyone here had to deal with something like this? Curious if it's as bad as it sounds or if there's more to the story.
Re:Show HN: Claude.vim – a different take on AI pair programming
on Friday July 19, 2024 @08:17AM (#41005613)
This looks like an intriguing approach to AI pair programming! Claude.vim seems to go beyond typical code completion tools like Copilot by offering a chat-centric interface that integrates deeply with your Vim workflow. It’s like having a pair programmer that not only suggests code changes but also discusses design decisions and debugs with you in real-time. Anyone tried this out yet? How does it compare to other AI tools in terms of usability and effectiveness?
