Curious how early they're announcing this. Service won't begin until 2028.

Interesting. Not a single data center in California.
Re:The Mathocalypse on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @04:21PM (#49998280)
Imagine if a team of mathematicians from OpenAI had gone on a university tour, gave demos of how powerful their models were for math research, and then gave mathematicians access to the model. Empower others rather than drop 700+ discoveries on GitHub that were made using a model only they have access to.

People might feel differently about AI if they were a part of the changes rather than being a helpless spectator.

Re:Livenerf: Has Opus 5.5 been nerfed yet? on Tuesday September 29, 2026 @10:35PM (#49903711)
I noticed this, too. I suspect their classifiers which prohibit certain tasks or require user permission for others is the reason for this.

However, the moment that someone uses a Chinese model without guardrails to commit an AI-powered 9/11, DC will rush to ban Chinese models. (A happy side effect will be to protect American AI profits.)

So the lack of guardrails is a very risky proposition...

I think Mathematica will survive because the alternative is for AIs to write the code to do a computation or use an open-source library. And there are many calculations for which there simply isn't an open-source tool for evaluating.

But I wouldn't be surprised to see Mathematica being used primarily as an AI plugin in the coming years. Mathematica now has an MCP which I use regularly from Claude Code. It's nice not having to write the lengthy Mathematica expressions by hand.

I've been using the Brave browser for years. I just turned off all the crypto stuff. How does Firefox today compare with Brave today?
Sad that western Europe is pushing so hard for limits to free speech & privacy. I'm not surprised given their history, but it's sad nonetheless.
Re:the US government has to start paying for things again on Friday August 16, 2024 @04:05PM (#41269880)
That may be a negotiating tradition, but writing and passing budgets is exclusive to Congress. The President can negotiate, but in the end the President can only sign or veto.

Congress writes the budget, not the President's administration. What was notable about the late 90s was for the first time in 40 years the Democrats did not control the House of Representatives. One could argue that divided government forces compromise which is a good thing. Personally, I think the financial problems in the United States transcend political party.
