how did you draw the diagrams?
i didn't say you did. i said you were very nonchalant in predicting the deaths of millions of people.
if not all points in P are coplanar then what does it mean to rotate clockwise? perpendicular to which axis?
Re:FPGA Design for Software Engineers on Wednesday October 16, 2019 @09:02PM (#21277947)
how is that true? which component in a modern processor is akin to an fpga or any ip deployed to an fpga?
Re:Amazon Has Transformed the Hasidic Economy on Wednesday October 16, 2019 @03:11PM (#21274218)
maybe because you're projecting? it's a local culture piece (it's in the ny region section). for better or worse the hasids are large component of ny culture.
Re:Amazon Has Transformed the Hasidic Economy on Wednesday October 16, 2019 @03:04PM (#21274135)
it's interesting because it gives insight into a culture and community we typically don't have access to. the point isn't amazon - the point is the hasids.
Re:Soli on Wednesday October 16, 2019 @11:44AM (#21271639)
I'm sure the answer is no but can I buy just the chip?
Re:What’s New in Python 3.8 on Tuesday October 15, 2019 @12:03AM (#21255459)
so i should write a whole other function that iterates over a list instead of being happy that := exists?
didn't we already elect someone like that (Obama vis-a-vis ACA)? and yet the monied interests have undone most of the work.

show me a successful peaceful revolution anywhere in world ever in the history of the world.
>My most important prof was a star student of E. Cinlar

so you're 2 removed from someone whose authority on the matter we would trust?

>I've published peer-reviewed original research, taught graduate courses

lol so does every phd student. not a high bar were' talking about here.

Re:Deep Learning with PyTorch: A 60 Minute Blitz [video] on Sunday October 13, 2019 @10:26AM (#21240517)
can we see some of the "ml algos" you've built? in particular your autodiff engine
Re:Python is not a great programming language on Saturday October 12, 2019 @08:10PM (#21237282)
that one is legit. sometimes I do something like map(int, [x,y,z]) and I always trip over that it's a generator
Re:Python is not a great programming language on Saturday October 12, 2019 @08:07PM (#21237266)
how is that a trick? you still can't access without quotes? the real trick is a Dict class that in the __init__ sets self.__dict__. but why would you do that just to save trying quotes
Re:Python is not a great programming language on Saturday October 12, 2019 @08:02PM (#21237235)
name one except python
Re:Bullshit.js on Saturday October 12, 2019 @05:16PM (#21236387)
a more general such tool: http://proselint.com/
of course but no one venerates the cheaters (lance armstrong has fallen from grace)
>That Gates played hard in the business world doesn't take away from the above.

i mean doesn't it? this "playing a game well" as a proxy for fairness/justice/merit metaphor as a source of legitimacy i think is strained in business. if you play basketball well and win a championship then you showed merit because the rules are tight - it's very hard to win by another means than being talented (i.e. cheating). the exception that proves the rule is how upset people get when basketball players "flop". business is the one game where the only rule is "don't get caught" so it doesn't seem correct to reason that since he did well he played fair.

Re:Convert Curl Syntax to Python Requests on Friday October 11, 2019 @11:55AM (#21225570)
this is one of the most useful little tools on good's green earth. I used to work for a scraping company and I used it all day every day - load a page with inspector open, find your request, right click copy as curl, paste into trillworks and boom you have the request you want to automate (modulo fiddling with cookies). A+ bang/line of code
Re:The Failed Promise of Genetic Programming on Thursday October 10, 2019 @04:45PM (#21218983)
bibliography length is a fetish. I'm writing a paper and I cited Lord Rayleigh for analysis of the airy disk. did I really need to cite him? who really doesn't know that Rayleigh's criterion was devised by Rayleigh? but I did because I'm taking precaution against someone either asking me rederive diffraction through a circular aperture or accusing me of not giving credit where credit is due. it's dumb. some academics are obsessed with attribution (God forbid you're not acknowledged for your incremental genius)
Re:PyTorch Mobile on Thursday October 10, 2019 @04:36PM (#21218897)
Lua torch has been dead for a while https://github.com/torch/torch7. pytorch doesn't use any Lua.
Re:The State of Machine Learning Frameworks on Thursday October 10, 2019 @04:31PM (#21218857)
why would you use Jax over pytorch? even if it has technical merits it lacks an ecosystem of readily available models to study and tweak.
Re:The State of Machine Learning Frameworks on Thursday October 10, 2019 @04:27PM (#21218820)
how did you strip out weighs for other classes? what does that even mean?
Re:Report: WeWork expected to cut 500 tech roles on Tuesday October 08, 2019 @10:39PM (#21199466)
lol here's a hot tip for you: anything with "optimize" in the description is not useless bullshit. like the person said: it's literally an np-complete problem.
Re:Scissor Statements: Sort by Controversial on Tuesday October 08, 2019 @12:13PM (#21193836)
>negotiated social contract

the bill of rights was ratified December 15, 1791. in what sense is it still being negotiated?

Re:Habits of Expert Software Designers on Tuesday October 08, 2019 @09:49AM (#21192250)
No it's obvious even before that because as the person I responded to points out it's right there in the footer:

>The first hint was at the footer of the page: Illuminating the bold ideas and voices that make up the MIT Press's expansive catalog.

Re:Scissor Statements: Sort by Controversial on Tuesday October 08, 2019 @09:47AM (#21192221)
this isn't a hot take. we already live in a society that obligates us to abide by a social contract. so yes people do have rights. it's as real as the fact that you and I speak the same language. looking around and imagining that because some people somewhere sometimes are in breach of contract means that contracts don't exist is stupid. they do. we all signed them and resign them when we use any cooperative produced object (that includes language, science, public roads, etc)
Re:Habits of Expert Software Designers on Tuesday October 08, 2019 @09:14AM (#21191876)
the point is why does it get posted and upvoted if it's so obvious
