nice, good catch. looks like it's just a retro design (by "dino's cousin"): https://madebyneversink.com/projects

This is exactly what saved me. I was an undergraduate research assistant and our postdoc warned me.

So true, lol. Stoner by John Williams does a good job of showing this.
Probably cheaper too.

How many times do I have to hear this? lol

I think if there's money to be made, there's a business that will pop up to fill that niche.

Hehe

Honestly can't stand the guy but I think of this soundbite constantly - he MUST have gotten it from someone else, right? lol
> they can live off of their general UBI

More like their landlord can live off their general UBI.

Abolish rent!

Yeah, in practice.

From the 2018 Wired article "Jeff Bezos Wants Us All to Leave Earth - for Good"

Also, is there a term for this kind of weird corporate anecdote? Why are these so common in the business world lol

Thank you for showing me the coolest graph I have ever seen.
Is there a paper on that? I'm so interested.

I used to believe that games were an art form - but I just can't get behind them being completely on par with books, etc.

The writing is often so terrible... I wish I could think of a single video game that touched me like The Brothers Karamazov or Les Miserables.

There's also epigenetics to consider, like methylation and acetylation, which adds a whole extra layer of complexity. :/

I think it might be income inequality that makes the good people in your home country suffer the most - but I don't want to assert this because I'm (probably) not from your home country and don't know it quite like you do.

I think I kind of understand the Truth that you're getting at - from a similar point of view, aren't artists usually particular about the medium that their art is presented in? because the medium can cause the work of art to have a different effect on the audience. [1]

In any case, it's certainly no substitute for the real thing (but I'm sure everyone kind of understands that).

Re:Why I’m a sucker for pen and paper on Saturday March 27, 2021 @02:41AM (#26600455)
Not to mention paper has a recycling rate of ~68%! [1] I'm just not sure if more energy is consumed by (1) a computer/tablet using a word processor or (2) manufacturing and recycling the equivalent amount of paper. Then there's also the matter of what type of electricity is used to power the computer or manufacture/recycle the paper (eg. hydroelectric, natural gas, etc). Wish there was a way to track all of this...

I get your point and I want to believe - but I always think about how a big chunk of UBI will just go straight to the landlord. What about getting behind more public housing, instead/first?
Re:Paul Erdős (2000) on Saturday March 27, 2021 @01:41AM (#26600205)
Meth is different from amphetamine (unless you were just being hyperbolic - in which case, I'm sorry for being pedantic lol).
Re:Paul Erdős (2000) on Saturday March 27, 2021 @01:38AM (#26600194)
Made me laugh but you have a good point, really. Something less anecdotal: it's easier to ignore hunger.

This article is so well written - I watched the videos they were talking about and it wasn't nearly as exciting. I just want Jacob Sweet to describe videos to me now.
It's a tough sell, saying that Elon Musk and other entrepreneurs are more effective with their money than a democratically-elected board of experts might be.

Production doesn't come to a halt without entrepreneurs in any world except Ayn Rand's.

Why is this downvoted? Just honestly curious - I've never read these guys but I'm always hearing about Sam Harris.
This reads like an American Psycho monologue (no offense).
> It is exactly people like Bernie and AOC who are likely to bring manufacturing back to the USA, instead of letting corporations continue to outsource every last job they can to save a dollar on labor.

Yeah, in fact Bernie speaks to this exactly in 2003, in a discussion with Alan Greenspan: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJaW32ZTyKE

I think sci-hub is useful when you want to see the full paper a news article is citing - not so much for searching/browsing.

I Google for the paper's abstract then copy its DOI into the sci-hub search.
